Ok, so - my first indoor LED tent setups came in and I’ve decided to do a bit of experimentation. Just about everything I’m doing here will be a first for me as I kill time and research different equipment and techniques while waiting for my commercial grow license to go through (knock on wood). Hope I don’t kill anything 😂 other than time.
I’ve opted to germinate in Jiffy Peat Pellets (Large) in a Jiffy Self Watering Dome — Not an endorsement, just something I’ve seen a few times but I haven’t seen anyone use for Cannabis germination or early seedlings. I’ve started out with a heating mat as well.
I’m using a single ScynceLED Dragon Alpha (600w) in each of my 2 5x5 tents. The light lens is optimized for a 5x3 canopy (in flower) so I won’t be filling the entire tent.
For airflow, I opted to go with AC infinities exhaust fan and carbon filter, which is way more power than needed for a 5x5 ... cranking it up to 10 and the tents look like they’re going to implode. But hey - I’ll reuse these in a much larger setup in the future.
Because I have a couple extra feet to work with, I’ll have plenty of room to add equipment as the grow moves along to tweak the environment.
I was initially thinking of ramping things up with a bottle fed CO2 dispersion setup, but decided that, while it might be a fun experiment, it’s probably overkill. I’ll likely just go with some CO2 bags or a little CO2 generator.
Updates, pics and time lapse video coming as soon as these girls poke their heads out.
So far I’ve noticed one thing about the self-watering Jiffy setup in combination with the heat mat. It gets HOT - too hot for my liking. With the light dialed down to 200 par @ ~ 24 inches away, and the heat mat on, the domes started to get up to 80F and then slowly creep up to 85F. I prefer to keep my germinating temps around 74-78F. So, as of day 3, I’ll have the mat off while the light is on, and monitor “night time” temps — the ambient temp in my grow room is 68F, so I may end up kicking on the heating mats.
