Sprouted well within a couple of days after a 24 hour soak. Stem is a little long, but nothing I'd worry about yet.

The leaves are about as wide as the small solo cup I've sprouted this one in, so I'm going to transplant it into a 5 gallon air pot this week.

This one looked a little pale and dry in the solo cup I started it in. Next time I think I'll stick to the larger solo cups, I only used the smaller one out of habit planting other seeds. Moved this one into a 5 gallon air pot on 3/2.

Grow Questions

Northostarted grow question 4 years ago
Does anyone have any favored methods to avoid stunted seedlings? It hasn't happened to all of my seedlings, but at least three crops have had this issue. I already use Coast of Maine seed starter, usually in small solo cups, before switching to the main soil.

Start them in bigger pots, seedling roots run out of room very quickly in small cups, thereby stunting growth. Simple really! Ideally some thing about 4 inches across and 5 inches deep, this is adequate for up to three weeks of growth. Have a look at my diary "cannabis conundrums" and in week 7 I have posted some pictures of a root system of a 3 week old seedling and this might give you an idea as to why having adequate sized pots for your seedlings is so important. Hope this helps,.... Organoman.

Clipped a couple of yellow low leaves off this one. It's growing more this week and I'm less worried about stunting.

This one looks much better this week after what appeared to be a little stunted growth. Fed it a little grow and calmag. Start looking for when I want to begin training the plant soon.

I don't know why, but this one looks like it's decide it wants to flower. I must have stressed it somehow. I thought I had a better photo of the main stalk. If you look at the third one, you can see smaller branches coming in, and from the top the leaf coloring definitely looks like the plant wants to flower. I'm not sure what to do here. These plants seem too small to flower now, but I don't want to fight this in the grow box forever. I may just move this one outside and let it grow in the sun, whatever happens.

I fed this one ph balanced water but no extra nutrients this week, along with getting it as much sun as possible inside its normal light cycle. It looks much better than it did a week ago.

Gave this one sunlight where possible this week and fed it a little nutrients. Leaves and veg growth looks health, but this one has a relatively strong main stalk and some longer thin lower branches. Planning to train and maybe top the top branches, and take the lower ones as clones in the next few days. I think I can get 4 or maybe 6 good cuttings.

This one is continuing to grow well, so I'm LST training the higher and thicker branches for now to beef up the canopy. I've cut a few clones from smaller branches lower down the trunk which look healthy so far. Since I generally over feed my plants, and this one is still showing purple stems, I'm going to lay of liquid nutrients for at least the next few weeks and see how this develops.

Planning to flip this one to flowering ASAP. Flowering box still needs a small amount of work to block the old fan vent.

Moved this one into a flowering box this week, and give it an initial couple days of fully darkness to kick off. Probably about 56 hours between closing the box and starting up the light cycle. I'm generally worried about over fertilizing my stuff, so I'm leaving nutrients out for a while. I do expect to put langbenite on top of the soil this week or next.

Very minor defoliation today to get some fan leaves off some new buds. Flowers came right along, seem to be developing well. Planning to feed some this week, lightly.

Just letting this one grow after all the over fertilization signs I think I saw on the last plant. Buds appear to be bulking up nice this week.

Still not feeding this one. Soil seems to have been a little hot in general, and the buds seem to be growing up fine. I think I will give it more langbenite tomorrow.

I'm realizing now that I focused too much on training for large branches and ended up with what was likely not enough canopy. Buds look good. Not to compare different strains too much bud the buds on these and the Coco Melon look like they have more bulk than the Blood Orange did at this stage. Given that they're all in similar soil, I think this adds more credibility to the idea that the BOS may have had too much nutrient supplementation. I'll stick with water and langbenite only on this one, and back off on the defoliation which I probably also got carried away with on the BOS.

Still not feeding these anything but water as the soil does show some signs of being a little hot. This OG seems to feel it more than the coco melon. OG has fully purple stems, and I see a little bit of leaf curl and yellow on the tips. Very small amount, bu the coco plant shows none of this and only a trace of purple on the stems. I'm sure I've noted this before, but the 'mainlining' experiment on the last few plants didn't help as much as I'd hoped. Future plants need to focus on canopy coverage first and branch size second. I took too much foliage off the Blood Orange Sorbet, these look better being left alone, but all of them would have done better to veg more.

The buds on this look good, with more new recent growth than the coco melon appears to be getting in the same box. The plant also looks closer to the end of it's lifecycle though, with a lot more yellow fan leaves falling off faster. I may or may not harvest this on 7/6, depending on if I want to use the flowering box it's in. If I can continue to veg the clones in my veg box and outside during the day, without getting overgrown in there, I may keep that up for 12 weeks or a little less if they look ripe enough. Buds _could_ come down now, but I think they'll benefit from a bit more time.

Hung this up on 7/4, most of the trichomes looked white with a significant number getting to amber. This one seemed fully ready to go and I needed the box so I took it and the coco melon. In the future, I'll stick to one strain per box to avoid staggering the times like I did here. Overall this and the coco feel small for the amount of time invested in them. I think I got too focused on training for large branches, which does appear to have lead to better individual buds and less fluff. But, I think the canopy coverage could have been better and produced more yield overall. Next grow I'll try to lean toward more canopy and still prune the small stuff.
