THE FIRST FEW FLOWERING WEEKS (WEEKS 1, 2 AND 3) When the flowering period starts, it isn't an abrupt change in your plants’ growth. Cannabis won’t just stop growing and then go into flowering right away. In these first weeks of flowering, many cannabis strains may indeed undergo a considerable growth stretch. This is important to know when it comes to feeding your plants properly, but also if you want to give them sufficient space to grow. WEEK 1 (TRANSITION STAGE AND STRETCH) In the very first weeks of flowering, your cannabis plants will be in the transition stage. Thinking that winter is not far away and that she will soon have to carry a big load of bud, your plant will likely grow rapidly. Some strains can almost double in height during this time. Because of the fast growth that your plant is undergoing now, this early flowering phase is also known as the stretch phase. WEEK 2 In week 2 of flowering, you may spot the first white pistils growing on your female cannabis plants. These fine and wispy white hairs will develop at those locations where the big fan leaves meet the main stem. It is these fine hairs that will later become buds. WEEK 3 Your cannabis plants have still not entirely stopped growing and will now be about 50% bigger than what they were just three weeks earlier. Although still stretching a bit, the stretch will now gradually slow down and soon come to a complete halt. WEEK 4 At week 4 of the flowering stage, your cannabis plants will likely have stopped growing altogether and are now spending all their energy on growing buds. There will still be white hairs sticking out from the buds, but the buds themselves will become bigger and fatter with each day. With more and larger buds growing, your plants will now produce more trichomes, making the odour a lot more noticeable at this stage. WEEK 5 In week 5 of flowering, you can observe the buds all over your plant becoming thicker. You may also spot new buds growing in new places such as along the main cola. With buds abounding, your cannabis plants will get fatter every day. This is a surefire sign you are in full flowering mode. At this point, your plant will have a very intensive odour. Ensure that you have a good ventilation system in place. WEEKS 6, 7 AND 8 (LATE FLOWERING STAGE, RIGHT BEFORE HARVEST) Not all cannabis strains require the same amount of time for their flowering, but many varieties will be ready to harvest in these last three weeks. There are, however, not too many strains that will be ready before week 8.

Hello! I have done SEVERAL autoflowers over the past year and just finished a crop. Here are some things to keep in mind, again these results from from my grows, what I seen first hand not what was read on the internet! Autoflowers don't need a specific light cycle to start flowering. When they are ready to start they will start. Usually this happens between 3-5 weeks from seed or when the roots hit bottom. Now as for light, it dont need 12/12 to trigger any growth or trigger flowering, but like all things living, everything deserves a rest! Autoflowers are best grown with 20 hours of light and 4 hours of rest. You can dial back and go 18/6 to allow a couple more hours rest before she starts on her journey a full days work. Personally I use 20/4 up until the stretch of flowering is over, then I dial back to 18/6 to give more rest during the busy times where bud is being developed. My plants really seem to like it, and the results are just fantastic with lots of trichome development. Don't bother using 12/12 unless you have photoperiod plants in the room that are flowering, otherwise, take advantage of the extra light for a longer period while she flowers. It will only help you out in the end! Grow is looking great! Keep it going, soon you will have some monsters on your hands :)

@passmauto, Some of the best *speculation* I have read about when autos flip, in fact, was based on how long it takes to fill the container's roots. My mother have a similar sized Seedsman Auto White Widow, big as my finishing plant. 3 gallon air pot. It's six months old. Six. Months. Old. No flowering. We've contemplated killing it repeatedly instead of putting it outside, but we've had room until now. It's just now getting its pistils under 12/12. And it's way too big for a 3 gallon, it will have lots and lots of tiny buds.

@passmauto, sometimes they will re-veg, had a bunch of seedsman white widow autos reveg. then again they did that repeatedly regardless of light cycle. Right now I have that 6 month old auto white widow that just now finally flipped, been taking up space, and i put it back in the 24 hr veg tent, seems to still be flowering. I don't even trust autos anymore dude. Someone can probably say what the deal is, but I can't even. Might as well just grow photos.

You can add same week photos by editing the last week's post and going to the photo section.. it just doesn't move your diary up or count as an "update". Some of the way the weeks system works are janky, but I know why they have it.

If she’s an auto, you shouldn’t have to switch to 12/12. I had an auto go about 8 weeks in veg also. She finally switched on her own to flower (without changing the light schedule) and produced my largest harvest to date. And yes, breeders tend to over exaggerate the speed from seed to harvest. All of my autos have gone at least a few weeks (sometimes a month +) longer than advertised. Good luck!

DudeGrowsWeedcommentedweek 57 years ago
She’s looking fine to me. Some autos take longer to switch to flower. In my experience they always take at least 2 weeks longer overall than the breeder advertises. Most of my autos average 3 months from seed to harvest.

@passmauto, I defoliate based on which leaves are blocking light penetration to the bud sites. I litterally look at the plant from the top to see which leaves are blocking light (or my view) of lower bud sites. I then remove those leaves. Most often I find these are some of the largest leaves on the plant. I do also remove damaged or dying leaves. But I don’t remove any of the lower leaves that are not damaged/dying or in the way of bud sites. Essentially I try only to remove what I think is necessary and also try to keep as many leaves on as possible while getting better light penetration. Hope that helps!

Jaindohcommentedweek 77 years ago
I think she is super happy! First grows are scary, but exciting! You could probably have removed a few smaller weaker branches to reduce crowding and lend to larger colas (airflow and light), but that time has passed; once you reach late flowering you may see why I mentioned this... it will be good to know for next time. It's a lesson I had to learn the hard (and slow) way. Liked and followed! Let us know if you have any questions =)

passmautocommented7 years ago
@Jaindoh,thanks bud i know what you mean by take couple of was to scared might slow it down to much as this auto veged for around 6 weeks till flower started but i think it was my thought as i done hst around week 4 thought i was doing lst but i was wrong plus started nuts to early had to much grow no pk in there so end week 6 i flushed done 24hr no light then started a fresh feed of bio grow bio bloom top max an 0.2ml of pk boost witch i think got flower going will do flush to day back to normal bloom gorw top max next week

Jaindohcommentedweek 87 years ago
any time you read a "how long is this going to take" estimate from a breeder or seed retailer, whether photo or auto, you gotta take that stuff with a grain of salt. my mother has a white widow auto by seedsman thats stagnated in its 3gal pot, gigantic, never flipped yet. its like 5 or 6 months old.
