Can I give Aquarium Water to my plants?

I have a turtle that lives in a 50 Gallon tank. I need to clean her filter this weekend. The process leaves me with a couple gallons of "dirty" water which I usually add to my outdoor garden. Should I give some to my plant?

Many people have done aquaculture and hydroponics together. The fish (usually) waste in the water is fertilizer for the plants which filter the water for the fish. So, yes it can work. The big issue I see is do you know what is in the water. In the end I don't think it will hurt but you'd be using water with unknown nutrient content. And, I certainly would not get the water on any part of the plant used for human consumption. After all, who wants to eat or smoke turtle poo.
