Coco and Worm Castings - Does Total Dissolved Solids Matter?

Does total disolved solids (TDS) matter when growing in coco, worm castings, and organic dry ammendments? Am I at risk of a build up of salts? I have seen 2700 ppm in my current grow, but are these simply not salts and therefore OK? Plants look good happy. TY

I am using 20% worm castings and only organic nutrients in this grow which has provided a simple feeding process based on top dressing only. I do add CalMag every water to ensure the coco is not draining all available calcium and magnesium. I have taken readings throughout the grow, and have seen from 1800 to 7000 ppm, mostly around 3000+ ppm readings. I've had about 5 rusty leaves and the same amount of leaves with burned tips, but I think this was deficiency, not overfeeding. 13 weeks in, these plants are thriving. While I agree TDS matters, watering to 20% run-off and ensuring your TDS is at 700 in veg or 1500 in flower while growing with this medium combination is not necessary, and may leave the plants hungry. Will my yield match a hydro grow? Time will tell. I am sure by dialing in environmental factors and more accurately feeding we could come close, albeit not as quickly.

Your ppm is crazy high. With coco it is a hydro grow. Coco should be 90 to 100 percent saturated at all times. Do not leave plant in run off. Test run off for the ph of coco. I grow in coco and it's about to get ugly for you if you don't correct the issues going on.

They sure do. Probably the reason your girls are taking it ok is because your ph is to high for veg mode, which stops the plant from taking up as much nitrogen as it possibly can. If you fix your TDS then make sure you fix the ph first or you will have troubles. That being said, when you switch into flower at those high ppm's and your ph is set properly you will instantly see over feeding and your plants will suffer, as the plants at 6.2 in coco are all set for flower mode, unless you had dirt mixed into the mix. Cheers
