30-40-50 litres or more when growing in the ground directly would not be out of the question, especially if day temps are 30+ degrees. Remember, a plant growing like this, directly in the ground, will have a root system that is 2-3 times as deep as the plant is tall and 2-3 times as wide as the plant is wide. That is a huge area where the roots will be, so imagine where that area would be and give enough water so that entire imagined area will get moisture. Even 100-150 litres every 3-7 days would not be out of the question. The lower leaves falling off/going yellow is quite normal at this stage and is a sign she is hungry and not an issue to do with watering. Giving half strength nutrients every 7-10 days is better than giving full strength nutrients every 14 days or so, this provides a gentle and constant supply of nutrients, rather than a huge spike in nutrition that then runs out before the next application. The gentle feeding and often routine seems to ensure the plants grow at a steady pace, instead of growing rapidly then stagnating as can happen when giving strong nutrients less often, as the plant accelerates, stops growing then accelerates, stops growing again, up and down, up and down. With the half strength routine, the plant does not have this up and down affect, just a steady cruise all throughout the growth cycle. Congratulations on your plants, they look happy and healthy, just remember though, please try and avoid doing any sort of defoliation, your plant needs every healthy green leaf she has, to make the energy she needs to grow her biggest and best flowers. Defoliation just reduces her capacity to make energy, slowing growth and possibly leading to much smaller growth too. Besides, if your plant did not need those leaves, she would not have grown them in the first place! So - Maximum amount of healthy green leaves = maximum energy production = maximum growth. It really is that simple! Hope this helps, Organoman. (and anti defoliation psychopath!)
