Light intensity? Should I dim?

NarcissisticEcho

I'm having a light-science question. I have 5 bulbs, 11w each, total 55w. I know this is not much but anyway. Should I dim the lights for seedlings even If I have this low setup? I mean, does light intensity affects seedlings' health? Or 55w can work on a maximum level?

I'm certainly no light expert but... I use a Phlizon 1500W set up and it's on full blast all the time (I'm growing several different strains, all at different stages of growth). When I started new seeds and they popped up, I would put a little wooden tent over them to shade them from the intensity of the lights... rather like "hardening off" when moving indoor normal plants outside for the summer... I kept them shaded for the first couple of days and then, when the real leaves were established, removed the shade and let them go... they were no closer than 24" from the light and no ill effects... Even with your low light set up, I'd give the newly germinated seedlings a bit of time to accustom themselves - i.e., give them a bit of shade until the real leaves are established. Good luck with your grow - and pay attention to the plants... they'll usually tell you what it is they want! 😊

You should have a lower intensity in light for seedlings. It promotes the plant to grow to form leaves to catch more light. So dimming or having a greater distance between them are 2 ways to go about it. If they don't get enough they will start stretching looking for light. Best is to have a way to measure intensity and increase till you hit flowering. Good luck and happy growing 🌱
