the past summers I've tried to grow auto flowers outdoors and every one of them has hermied . The only 2 variables that would be inconsistent with the norm is 1 I started them indoors a few weeks and 2)once outside they received less direct sunlight for the first few weeks. Why?

Stupid autoflowers.............. stick with far superior photoperiod plants would be my advice. Autos are just a craze, they do not offer anything that can not already be achieved with normal feminized plants. If you are determined to stay with autos, get better genetics - Sweet Seeds are awesome and super stable too. Matching the daylength could be your problem though, plants don't like going backwards, that is, from 18 hours indoors to 12 hours outdoors for example.

I’d take a hard look at the source of your genetics.
