Portable ac and exhaust

Do I actually need an exhaust fan if a portable AC is working in the growbox ? The ac also has a hose for hot air being pulled out. Can I not use the exhaust ?

Portable AC in cooling mode blows out tonns of hot air keeping the ventilation at a high level. In dry mode it should be less effective in terms of ventilation, but still should blow out a lot. The problem might happen when it stops cooling and no air is pushed out. You'll have a problem until it starts working again. Separate exhaust fan is a must. I am using portable AC sometimes, but never in the box. The model I use has only cooling mode, it gives too cold air that would just kill the plants. So when the weather is too hot, I just place it near the intake to bring some cold air inside the box. Worked well for two grows.

You do need to move air out of the grow area. You don’t want stagnant air basically. Female plants put off ethylene into the air. Allowing the ethylene concentration in the room to rise will actually become toxic eventually to the plants themselves. Little known fact .. but one of many reasons to keep air moving thru the area.
