Leaving the plants in darkness for a period of time before harvest does increase the plants trichomes and doesn't contain any excess starch/nutrients. It has been proven I think. I watched a video of a guy who did a test on 12,24,36,48 hours 72 seems very excessive to me. but he did say the 12 and 24 had a considerable impact on terpene and thc% content. But after that the thc dropped slightly. Bear that in mind, I always do mine for 24 hours.

I did 48+ hours dark right after after the flush period - tough to say what contributed more, but the feedback I was given was unanimously πŸ’―πŸ’―πŸ”₯πŸ”₯ positive on smoothness and smoke. 72 might be much as @fruitgrower mentioned. Why not try control groups of branches? 24 / 48 / 72 - that way you know if the 24 hour one ends up noticeably different than 72, all you gotta do next time is the Eddie Murphy and wait... Another 48 Hours πŸ₯

Did a 48 hour darkness period before harvest and to be honest I really didn't see much difference.

Hello there. I heard this as well and I actually did do it in my first grow, but only for 48 hours instead of 72 (didn't want to push my luck, just in case). It worked! They did noticeably swell and there was one last trichome push when it was all said and done. It's also recommend that you drop RH and temperatures too, if you're to do this. It's essentially extra stress and confusion which pushes her into panic mode and she will try one last desperate attempt to push and catch pollen, before her cycle is officially over. I have heard of some people doing 96 hour lights out at harvest, but IDK, that seems a little risky. Prolonged wonky lighting schedules can cause self-seeding and I wouldn't want to risk that. But with 48-72 hours, from what I've read, even if she tries, there's not enough time for seeds to develop, so you're good. I guess what I'm saying is, it's worth a shot and it can't hurt. Take a bunch of 'before' pictures and then your 'after' pictures to see if there is a noticeable difference in size, trichs and swell. Best way to go about this is to try and see what happens. Again, it won't hurt them, so why not? Plus, there are many, many veteran growers that vouches for this technique. Go for it!!! And good luck with your harvest! Great job and congrats man! Chalk another win up on the board!πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘Œ

Hi Oldtimer As far as I know never done it my self she will be concentrating on extracting all left in her steam and branches, leaves ,to try to save stay alive for as long as possible. It is possible you will that you will get some slight benefits out off it. Bud not really convinced it will be noticeable other then remaining white hairs will turn brown. Not sure if it's going to help resins production. U found this article for you mate. Interesting 🧐 i really can't imagine a difference with autos since they have no photoperiod. but when it comes to regular flowering strains, ive heard from all the best (ed rosenthol, greg green, other names that have books and shit) that pure dark at the end can really bring out that extra umph. guessing it has to do with the fact that abuse to a plant can make it secrete more resin as a defensive mechanism. Hope this helps and good luck with your growth.
