Transplanting Time

jmskystarted grow question 4 months ago
How will I know when it's time to transplant? Some roots showing at the bottom of the cups, but plants still seem too small with only around 6 baby leaves. Sprouted 12/28 but some early stunted growth, we are early week 3 but maybe lagging behind "normal" growth.

I'd imagine it needs to be transplanted now.

Transplantation happened, all good, generally if you see bottom roots its close or good time for transplantation. Root bound not healthy, so since seeing on bottom dont delay longer than 1 week. Your Blueberry not happy, too hot for her, keep an eye or feed her lighter.

18 days should be 4-5 nodes -- developed nodesl not counting the growth tip. Early on you can wait to see a root pop out bottom of a seedling pot or when the plant's leaves are as wide as the pot it is in.. usually an okay time to transplant. Leaving them in a too small pot can impact how large they grow... once transplanted they'll start growing better as the roots spread out in new substrate. Oh, how quickly it needs the 'next' irrigation is also a good indicator of when to transplant.

Looks far to wet and soggy thin roots that a sine of very wet soil in solo cups transplant in to better pots with better drainage a lot better drainage.and with them being very lagy pot them up deep ie right down to there so just out by inch

Ah, I like what you did. That's a very good transplanting method. You can easily cut the cup away. This I like. Tbh, the temps at this time if yr means slower growing. Its true throughout the world.. during winter co2 sky rockets as photon reaction slows a lot with our low temps. They look OK. Good transplanting method. So the way you do it. I don't see any issues. I can see she has crisp edges. This could be related to overwatering and your roots not been able to breath. Them cups are too small. You also at this stage. I mistake can show up in a wk later. I'd cut the cups away. You roots need to spread out as opposed to just growing down and out and around the sides of the pot. Feel free to mes me if you need help.

Depends what they are. I'm taking they're fems. 1stly if you're talking about Dixy cups they're pretty bad to start a seedling in. They're just too small. And yes, this will account for a slow start. You need at least 2L to start off in. This is the minimum sub I start my seedling of in. Yes, I used root cubes but, as soon as you see roots. You put into your starter pot. It is key to build a root ball with a fem. This will have more roots in the centre as opposed to seen roots all at the edges. This does cause rapid growth. But transplanting and building up strenght in fems is essential imao. Autos, are dif, stress can cause an early flip or stunted growth. Good thing about fems. Is stunted just means, a longer veg time. But to build a solid base is key to a plant getting a 4-5 month grow. Or else you get a lot of dead growth that shows when its that shown the light for a day or so, this happens with autos. As the weak root system it needs light hitting every leaf or most on a node. But, with fems. Having a good strong root zone can sustain itself by getting a much better nutrient uptake and no waste. Anyways. You've no pics. I'll look at your diary. And see what's going

In a solo party cup, if you burned little holes in the bottoms for drainage and you see roots poking out of them, you might wanna just pop the dirt ball out and take a look. Be careful though. Be gentle cuz it can be a bit of a bitch to get that to break free cuz of the ripples in the lower part of the cup. At least thats what i find. If the roots are everywhere and a thick ring of roots at the bottom, thats ready to move up a pot size or 10. I go from solo cup to 3 gal fabric pot. I pack the soil in the pot and bury a empty solo cut in the soil and back fill. When it's time to transplant i remove the empty cup and have a perfect template for the root ball. I dust the hole with fungi, and dust the rootball with bacteria, and drop her in, give her a little press into the soil, then give a little water. Transplant shock is typical. The plants dont like being fucked with at the root level and they'll tell you that after transplant. Droopy sad looking plants are often the result. Don't panic, it's normal. They will bounce back in a few days to a week.
