Have tried every way possible when drying and these days, the only way to dry for me is to cut the branches off and dry the plant in a number of pieces. Better, more even drying is achieved this way in my experience.

Iv dried well over a 1000 plants, it may even be 2 every way you could imagine. I started by hanging whole plants as that's how I was taught but it makes no noticeable difference. Dry trimming is a pain in the ass when you want every single leaf off like I do,they curled around the bud and its a pain.I chop several branches at atime and trim, I also break the big fat main colas up as well. They dry better, and faster if it matters.

Hello Sanibelisl, I always hang the whole plant but you want to cut off the large leaves to prevent too much moist that can cause mold. Happy Harvest Buddy! 💚

If you have a lower RH than 55%, it can help to ensure a slower drying. If you have a higher RH than 60% I personally would avoid it and not risk the chance of mold. I can imagine myself going crazy and checking my plants every 2hours for mold. But thats only for drytrimming which i assumed you do when you hang whole plants. I guess when you wettrim its no problem. But thats just in theory, i never did it mate.

I'd stick to 7-14 day lengths.. anecdotal - 7 days vs 9 days (recent adjustments raised it to 9-days) hasn't changed the quality of my bud even 7 months out from harvest. Maybe i'll see a difference closer to 12 months? That's about as long weed lasts before it's all smoked.

Think of it as a tool in the utility belt. same with wet trim vs dry trim or choping down to nugs or branches... each will impact the length of time it has to dry. in a naturally humid environment, it may be overkill or even risky to extend drying times. If in an arid region, it may be necessary to have a proper drying legth. Slower is thought of as better, but at some point it's so slow you'll just grow mold. So, i'd answer your question with more questions - rhetorically. Whats your average dry length? Do you want it longer? if so, then hanging a whole plant should help toward that end. If you have upper 60s F and 60% RH, even trimmed buds on a mesh rack will take ~9 days. I get that with wet trimmed buds in a mesh rack in 68F / 60% RH. I grow in the winter, so a humidifier is necessary to keep the RH% steady.
