I have not had to put any autos I grew into 12/12, I've only grown autos on 18/6 or 16/8 with no issues flipping to flower on their own. Ideally I'd do 18/6 but with my current setup and lights that equates to something close to 50DLI and its to much, So i do 16/8 and it comes out to 37.5 DLI, and that's close enough to 40 for me, 40 being estimated max DLI before CO2 supplementation. My lights are restricted at 40-60-80-100% dim settings, no in-between. If I could get them down to 20-30% I could go back to 18/6, but I don't feel like buying their 300$ controller to do that. DLI is not a myth, its a scientific measurement that has shown to work well in most applications. Eg my lights at 40% dim and 30" hang height at 18/6 is 37.5DLI Then in flower my lights at 60% dim and 30" hang height at 11/13 is also DLI of 37ish. I used a quantum par light senor to measure my tent and lights, I even made maps of it. You can see the setup in week 2 and the results in week 3. It took me a while to do and it was a bitch and a half, but now I know with my Medic Grows mini sun 2's growdiaries.com/diaries/191541-exotic-seed-honey-mints-grow-journal-by-m0use Good information by numbers with regards to 12/12 and if it only flowers at 12/12 then yea maybe it is a photoperiod. I have also heard of autos taking 6-9 weeks to start blooming. At that point might as well have grown a photoperiod. Its unknown to me if switching autos to 12/12 will help them flower like in photoperiods or if its when they want. Still I don't think it will hurt them to try though. Just make sure its getting the same energy input so they can grow well. and that input is measured best in DLI. Good Luck!

It doesnt matter. Its about the DLI, i dont know how there can be so much nonsense about a topic thats so clear. No wonder we deal with more myths than facts in cannabis growing. Pathetic. You can give that DLI in what so ever hours, but autoflowers can slightly take more light than photos probably thats were the 18 hour shit comes from. Also the nightcycle is as important as the day. They need to sleep and 12 hours are better than 6, if you have the power to give them the DLI in 12 hours. I give mine 16hours atm, but thats due to my LEDs, dont have more power. preferably i would sink down to 14hours light a day. All this rumors make me sick, since even I still fall for them.

Hi growmie, during my first grow I was growing in the same tent an auto and a photoperiod lady. So my Orion had a second part of her life 12/12 and both did pretty good. They produced more than my current autos under 18/6 for some reason.

If you need to do 12/12 to make it flower, you need to keep it on 12/12. If this is the case, you have a photoperiod, so treat it like a photoperiod as they probably screwed up packaging or had some unwanted-pollen contamination in their breeding process etc. If you are using 12/12 because it is residing next to photoperiods in flower, that is fine too -- This assume same DLI given as before. DLI is what matters, not hours of operation - given common sense... don't try to give 40DLI over 1 hour of operation obviously, lol. But, whether it's over 12, 14, 16, 17, 20, et al it won't matter much. DLI is what dictates yield along with CO2 (max dli is limited mostly by co2) Daily Light Integral - the proper way to measure how much energy/light you provided to a plant. hours of light alone is an incomplete picture.

Hello bundabl, Yes when autoflowers were new on the market I did some test grows with light on/off - 24/0 - 20/4 - 18/6 - 12/12 20/4 grows more during vegging but grams per used wattage 18/6 is slightly better. 12/12 did not grow that tall and for that reason and less light during flowering does not give a great yield. My advice for best result = 20/4 during vegging and 18/6 during flowering. Happy Growing Buddy! 💚
