Time for some defoliation?

ultra_violet
ultra_violetstarted grow question 3 months ago
Is it okay that the side buds below the main point of growth don't get that much light because of the big leaves above blocking the light? I think defoliation at this stage means too much stress and I should probably just watch it develop further and continue LST. Am I right?

Don't defoliate! ALL of the plants energy to grow and thrive is made by/in the leaves. Less leaves = less energy being made = less potential growth..............it is that simple. Besides, light spectra we humans can not see will actually penetrate upper leaves and strike so called "shaded" leaves underneath, making defoilation pointless. Defoliating such a small plant would severely reduce its ability to make enough energy to grow as fast and big as possible.

No need for defoliation at this stage. There is still plenty of light exposure on all nodes and internodes.

You should top it and keep the lower stems.. plant stress in veg is noting you can stress the plant and it’ll keep growing. Don’t be scare to train the plant without stress

don't defoliate. by the time the little branches have a couple nodes you can bend, contort to fit through or around leaves and a minimal amount of initial stretch will not hurt you and may even be a benefit to spreading things out well. a lot of this depends on the size of plant you intend to grow. i'd suggest working backward at 2.5-3 colas per sq ft the plant will fill and then devise a plan to reach that target in a systematic way with the least amount of excess growth.

Noooo, You can remove the leaves that grow To the middle of the plant. That’s exactly every 4. Leaf on a branch, but nothing more to give the new branches light but that’s it for the leaves. Like others said you could top

Because you have started LST I would carry on with that bending to either side this time so the lower part of the plant would be on show But with photos if you just keep snipping off the two biggest fan leaves at the top the plant will grow into a big bush because you're giving the bottom lots of light

You could actually top her if you want her to grow bushier and not so much in height, but i would also not defoliate at this stage. Alternatively just keep bending that main node down
