I've had dozens of plants where those striped stems just came from the genetics. They usually tend to purple in late flowering as well. Often, the stems of the leaves (especially those that get the most light) turn purple too. When the purple runs into the leaf like that, it's 100% genetics. If not, and there's a hard distinction at the end of the stem and the plant otherwise looks rather weak, then it's phosphorus deficiency.
