Training is different outdoors than indoors. Different motivations. Inside you have drastically different intensities of lighth based on distance from that light. Outside, this is not true. It is swimming in photons in a consistent way no matter how tall that plant is -- inverse square law ramifications.. 1 light sources is inches away, another is 140 millions of miles away. Spacing and avoiding congestion is all you need to worry about outside. Growth should be robust all over. Make sure colas aren't bundled up and physically tuching each other and all is well. Training to make more colas is fine, but too many in a close space is still a problem and no worries about leveling it out.

Both topping and LST work outdoors, but LST is often better for stealth, wind resistance, and maximizing light penetration without stressing the plant too much. Topping works too, just slower recovery outdoors due to changing conditions. I’d recommend light LST first — you can always top later if needed.

I would top multiple times outdoors. depending on how youre growing outdoors, whether in pots or in the ground can make a difference too. the plants will get so big that lst barely makes a difference by the final stretch. with topping it helps the plant permanently grow as a bush. your plants will surpass what you imagined in size and they have the strongest "grow light" in the world, the sun. and if planted in the ground, they have the biggest pot to grow in. lst will work but it may not make much of a difference if done earlier on because the plant will out grow and grow upwards afterwards One suggestion could be getting a metal trellis grid or even setting up a scrog net to put over and around your plant If youd rather do lst

Hey there that’s a great question personally I would not top a plant outside unless your a pro and you are like starting your outdoor plant indoors like 4 months early and are bringing a 5foot tall plant outside in the spring in that case you can top the plant and that’s only for a pro because you will have to plan correctly and train the plant a lot for it to grow into something that large if you bring it outside in spring at 5feet it could get over 10ft tall but only if trained correctly most plants grown regularly can’t handle being that large So I’d say just stick to growing your outdoor plant the regular way you will run into way less problems Also most the times people top plant in indoor grows is to makes the bud canopy more even so they all get the same light from a grow light the sun is way different and stronger it reaches all around plants a lot different than a grow tent with a light source at the top the tent

Been growing outdoors for 40 years.........have done hundreds of experiments..........LST is the only technique I use these days. Topping, while ok, can lead to problems with splitting stems/broken plants..........especially if it rains or you get high winds during flowering.

Indoor grower here, but the underlying mechanism doesn't change whether growing indoors or out. The crown of a apex contains a majority of the plant hormone auxin, auxin is responsible for keeping a majority of the energy created kept in the central stem and will maintain apical dominance throughout its life. When you top, you cut off the part of the plant with all the auxin, and now the plant as a response will distribute that energy far more evenly across each remaining stem. Essentially making it a free for all, all remaining stems will receive energy based on a more even distribution. Won't technically increase yields, but what it will 100% do is encourage lateral growth, one of the most popular and encouraged genetic traits is to have quadlateral growth from each internode as opposed to the regular of two. Total yield will be determined by many factors mostly the DLI, distribution of that energy will be dictated by hormone balance. 1 mega cola with alot of nice side cola. Or all big side cola. With increased lateral branching this can increase concentration of potential bud sites. Given its outdoors more is generally better.

Hey growmie, both topping and LST can work great outdoors — depends on your goals and grow space. Topping helps create a bushier shape and controls height, which is useful if you want to avoid tall, obvious plants in open areas. LST is great too, especially if you’re going for stealth or want better airflow and sun penetration through the canopy. 🤞🍀❤️
