Grab a USB digital microscope, they run about $ 30 and are good for checking trichomes. You’ll be able to see exactly when they’re clear, cloudy, or amber, helping you dial in the perfect harvest window for your preferred effects. Link to Ninyoon 4K WiFi Microscope - https://www.amazon.com/Ninyoon-Microscope-Endoscope-Compatible-Cellphones/dp/B09SNSPHXX/?th=1 Or if your phone has a macro lens or close-up setting, that can work too. Just snap some clear shots and zoom in to judge the trichome color. Post some pictures. Trichome Color Guide 1. Mostly Clear (immature): Effect: Weak, heady, short-lasting high Not ideal for harvest – the plant isn’t ready yet 2. 50% Clear / 50% Cloudy: Effect: Uplifting, more cerebral, mild Good for: Daytime use, creativity, focus Harvest early if you want a more energetic or less sedating effect 3. Mostly Cloudy (with some clear): Effect: Potent high, strong THC content Best for: Balanced experience – both head and body effects Sweet spot for many growers harvesting for recreational use 4. 70–90% Cloudy / 10–30% Amber: Effect: Stronger body high, more relaxing, stoney Good for: Evening use, stress relief, pain, sleep Ideal for indica strains or if you’re looking for a couch-lock effect 5. Mostly Amber: Effect: Heavier sedation, more CBN (degraded THC) Used for: Strong medicinal needs (sleep, pain)

Sometimes amber is transluscent as opposed to dark/opaque. Some plants don't amber up, but this should be rare. Make sure you only look at trichomes on calyxes .. the leaves are irrelevant. plastic vs glass is another good visual clue... if it looks like glass, it's still too early. (well, predominantly glassy i should say) it's like riding a bike. You'll need some trial and error before you become comfortable doing it. Try different points in a typical harvest window to figure out what your personal preference is. I like 5-10% amber and some people like 90% amber, lol. Don't assume you like one or the other or something between. Can always hasten the learning curve, take off a bud early, let some ripen longer and take off some with more amber, and even leave a few to ripen to 90-100% if you want etc... Take the bulk at the point you believe you'll enjoy the most... later if you want sleepy-time buds. life is messy.. it won't always be picture-perfect. So, use other observances to aid 1) trichomes 2) pistil coloration 3) density of nugs It can help you when things aren't quite textbook context. Buds shrink significantly during drying process, and if you harvest too early that is exagerrated even further. Remember, you just spent 90-100 days on this, so don't be impatient about a few days at the end.
