Recovery after gnat infestation

Hi Growmies, I had a massive problem with gnats that required drying my pots with soil and applying treatment with nematodes. It worked great, but I think the damage to the roots was irreversible. What do you think? P.S. Monster Mash is doing great, but ACOP seems to be dying.

hey 👋 Shes already at an advanced and fairly massive stage; she’ll recover 👍 It will affect the harvest, but she’ll make it to the end. And to answer your comment on your diary: yes, switch to coco 😉

coco can come with gnats too... basically if it is stored outside you have higher risks of bringing something home from the store. Esposure during transportation is a problem too. Usually gnats come from the place you bought it from and depends mostly on how they store it. gnats dont give 2 shits about inert media or soil media. If you get gnats more than occasionally, try a different retailer. soilless is not more expensive.. my nutes cost less than 4 cents per gallon mixed. 'soil' fertilizers cost more and they aren't even a complete diet, lol. plus not an apples to apples comparison. you'd have to also consider difference in cost of the medium itself -- those amendments that come baked into soil are not free.

yeah, if it happened in flower, you plants are on a 'timer,' so to speak. There's no getting that lost growth back before the plant ripens and dies. Doesn't mean you should stop. At this point, better to finish even if the yield is reduced a bit. Get some Bti, and use it pre-emptively in future. If no signs of gnatts several weeks after lost pot-up, then you can stop using it, safely. New media = new risk. mid-infestation, bti takes 2-3 weeks to clear it up. Use along with nematods in future. sticky traps can clear out adults -- adults don't cause any damage, fwiw. (beside laying more eggs.. larvae does the damage)

Switching to coco will normally take care of most bugs but it requires more attention on the part of the grower. More frequent feedings and watering will be necessary. You will spend more on nutrients because you will have to use more nutrients.

Fugus gnats is not the problem with Acop, you are killing it with over feeding.

Just have to wait and see. Sometimes problems come in pairs, 3x or even more. Bugs often carry diseases and viruses and all kind of nasty stuff with them.
