UV light is not mandatory, very few indoor grows use any actual UVB. The photoreceptor UVR8 peak absorption occurs at 280-290nm with 90+% response occurring between those wavelengths. 90% of uv lights that claim they are UVB are actually 290-310nm and therefore about 10x less srress response than a fluorescent quartz at 280-290nm. But shhhh its a secret. UVB cannot pass through standard plastic nor glass, only quartz glass. UVA on the other hand 40-70% passes through glass and plastic and creates alot of reactive oxygen species in doing so. You do not need UVB for a plant to grow, but UVB is generally responsible for the "stress-induced" quality boosts (potency, defense mechanisms). Having only high UVA is not useless, but it won't produce the same, high-potency, defensive reactions as a balanced UV mix, and too much will just cause burn and stress. Infrared (IR) radiation—experienced as intense heat—is arguably the biggest stealth killer and stressor for windowsill plants, often more damaging than too much light. 45% of all light from sun is IR. Save the money and skip the 65w useless light, and invest in a small fan to keep her 😎 while she chills on the windows. The idea that windows grows yield is affected by UV is innacurate and misleading.

Look up DLI for this time of year in your region -- a google search will return maps. At times you'll be getting a portion of total light - so account not only for a lack of hours of direct sun but also the angle of the sun.. If you get ~15 hours of light and only 6 hours with direct sun on plants. it's less than 6/15ths of the total DLI...even counting the less direct light outside that timeframe. From that consider what portion of the day the sun is providing good light. That will help determine how much you should add in order to get a decent outcome. I wouldn't go lower than ~30 DLI, even if growing leisurely, and shoot for 35-40 DLI if yield is important. If yield and quality are of minimum concern, i've seen people leave plants out in less ideal conditions that what you describe. Poopy weed, but it did technically grow, lol.

You could grow a nice bonsai or canna house plant but not as a plant for any yield, looks pretty on a windowsill though.. Grow on ✌️ 💚

Hi 🙋‍♂️, No matter what you Plan, windowsill grows are Never really good. The Glass of your Windows mostly Filter mandatory UV-Sequences Which will lead to reduced grow and harvests… if you don’t mind the smell without tent, buy a „Deckenhaken“ , buy a cheap 65w grow led on Ali express and your grows will be ten times better
