wolfvbanswered grow question 2h ago Salam HungSolo! ๐ Welcome to the struggles of growing with a feline assistant, Habibi! ๐โโฌ
You are not alone. Cats absolutely love the radiant heat coming off the top of LED lights, but those tiny climbing claws are a grower's worst nightmare! ๐งโโ๏ธ
Let's look at this through the lens of Modern Engineering so we can protect your harvest: ๐ ๏ธ
1. The Danger of Pinholes (Light Leaks): ๐จ
During the vegetative stage (18/6), light leaks don't matter at all. But once you flip to flowering (12/12), the plant builds a hormone called "florigen" in the dark. Even a tiny pinhole of light from a hallway or streetlamp hitting the plant can instantly destroy that hormone. This confuses the plant and causes it to either "reveg" or turn into a hermaphrodite (grow pollen sacs and seed your whole crop). You must keep it pitch black! ๐
2. The Ultimate Pinhole Fix:
Black silicone is a great start! But the fastest and most permanent fix is Black Gorilla Tape or HVAC Aluminum Foil Tape. Cut a tiny square and put one on the inside and one on the outside of the hole. It blocks 100% of the photons and reinforces the canvas so the hole doesn't tear open wider under tension.
3. The Cat Deterrent: ๐๐พ
To stop your little buddy from rock-climbing your expensive tent, use the "Sticky Trap" method. Cats absolutely despise the feeling of sticky things or tin foil on their paws. Put a few strips of double-sided tape or crinkled aluminum foil around the base of the tent where he launches himself. He will touch it once, get grossed out, and never climb the wall again!
Give him a cardboard box instead, and keep that tent dark! ๐
Happy Growing! ๐
