Hi
For a shed automatic, height management is crucial because space is often limited and you don't want your buds to end up burned against the lamp. Since you are at the beginning of growth, this is the best time to act.
Here are the most effective techniques for keeping your plants small and stocky:
1. LST (Low Stress Training) - The royal method
This is the #1 technique for automatics because it does not stop growth.
The principle: As soon as your plant has 3 or 4 layers of leaves, delicately bend the main stem horizontally and tie it with plasticized gardening wire.
The effect: It breaks apical dominance. The plant sends the energy to the side branches which will rise to the same height, creating a flat canopy instead of a Christmas tree.
2. Light Management
Avoid “Stewing”: If your lamp is too far away at first, the plant will stretch desperately to reach it. Maintain sufficient light intensity so that the nodes remain close to each other.
The spectrum: Uses light rich in blue during the vegetative phase, this promotes more compact plants.
3. The size of the pot
If you have not yet repotted (although it is advisable to plant the autos directly in their final pot), be aware that a smaller pot (7-11L) will naturally limit the final size of the plant compared to a 20L pot.
Additional advice: As I said for the other grower, if he put his culture on a site like GrowDiaries, it would be much easier for us to follow the progress.
I hope this will help you have a good evening
