El Patron is an award-winning hybrid cross of AMG and Shiva. It won first place in the “Common Weed Cultured in Soil” category at the 2019 Highlife Cannabis Cup. Its Spanish name means "the boss", and it definitely suits this marvelous cultivar.
This strain is slightly sativa-dominant, easy to grow, and produces moderate yields. Its effects perfectly balance the two polar opposites of its parent strains, creating a physically relaxing and mentally alerting high. To top things off, El Patron also boasts very interesting and complex flavours and aromas that will please every cannabis connoisseur.
EL PATRON'S GENETIC LINEAGE
El Patron is a cross of AMG, or Amnesia Mac Ganja, and Shiva. AMG is an almost pure sativa hybrid bred by Royal Queen Seeds and it's renowned for producing a very strong, uplifting, and psychedelic euphoria. It boasts a THC level of around 22% and a spicy, slightly herbal aroma that's won it numerous cannabis awards consecutively between 2014 and 2017.
AMG was bred by crossing Amnesia and Mac Ganja, two Haze varieties famous for their potency and for producing a strong, euphoric, and very psychedelic high. Like any good Haze variety, both Amnesia and Mac Ganja also boast great yield potential. All of these traits were refined and passed down to AMG and, subsequently, also to El Patron.
Shiva, on the other hand, is a cross between Northern Lights and Skunk. It's an indica-dominant variety that produces a pleasant, relaxing, physical stone and features exotic flavours, combining cardamom notes and spicy undertones. Shiva plants are small, stocky, and tend to produce dense, heavy buds. This is one of those sticky, resinous plants that are great for making hash and other types of extracts. El Patron also inherited some of Shiva's best traits, especially her small stature, high-resin production, and the physically relaxing effect.
EFFECTS, FLAVOURS, AND AROMAS OF EL PATRON
El Patron brings together the best traits of both its parents. Despite being slightly sativa-dominant, it preserves a lot of the physical traits of Shiva, while offering a unique flavour and aroma profile. Its effects are well balanced and perfectly combine physical relaxation with a cerebral euphoria. This is a great strain that you can enjoy during the day, at social gatherings, or even on a chill night in at home.
You'll notice its effects kick in after just 1–2 tokes. They'll typically start in the head, producing a mild rush of euphoria, before working their way to the body, leaving you with a feeling of deep relaxation and a calm and focussed mind.
Stick your nose inside a well-cured bag of El Patron buds and you'll pick up on rich Kush aromas combined with slightly fruity, citrus undertones. El Patron is spicy and herbal, reminiscent of Indian or Pakistani incense, while also bringing delicate, sweet notes to the table. It makes for an exceptionally smooth smoke on its own, but can also be used to produce highly aromatic extracts and mouth-watering edibles.
We mentioned before that El Patron inherited its amazing resin production from Shiva and it produces some super resinous buds that are great for making extracts. Arguably one of the best and easiest ways to make extracts with El Patron is to stick some of its buds between two sheets of parchment paper and place in a rosin press (or a hair straightener). You'll end up with a sticky, aromatic, and extremely potent product that'll impress even the biggest weed snobs.
GROWING EL PATRON
Thanks to its strong genetics, El Patron makes for a really easy grow. It can perform well both indoors and outdoors and is naturally short and stocky, with a lot of lateral growth. You can expect medium yields come harvest time.
If you're an inexperienced grower, El Patron is the perfect choice for you; it'll produce great buds and rewarding harvests without needing much more than a good source of light, proper watering, and the occasional boost with some nutrients.
El Patron is also a great strain for those who already have a few harvests under their belt. Thanks to its already accelerated lateral growth, it responds particularly well to LST, topping, and FIM, making it perfect for practicing your training techniques. Since it's a shorter strain, El Patron can also perform well in ScrOG and SOG setups.
