Got my oscillating floor fan this week & started keeping it directly on the plant to help improve stem strength. Still doing a 20/4 light cycle & watering thoroughly twice weekly--once from the bottom & once from the top with foliar misting 3x weekly. To encourage vertical growth, I added a weak 12:1 solution of urine to her water. This was her first "feeding" of anything other than plain water & she loved it.
Why is my plant growing upward so slowly? Temp, light & water are fine. My last auto in a Solo cup was 3x this size by Week 3. I'm not transplanting & will be growing in this container (18 oz) the whole time. No nutes yet--only doing natural (urine fert later this week).
Morning...so true on all the thing they're mentioning. The one pic I see..the leaf almost look like its folding under and crisp, the soil looks loose and airy like its a tad dry...like it needs a drink.
If you are determined to keep it in a small cup...then I would imagine its used up the available nutrients in the soil by week 3. At least a but of micro nutrient at the very least...
Good luck with it I hope she perks up for you.
I'm on Week 7 & more leaves are rapidly turning yellow. The stems are also a deep red/purple color on said yellow leaves. I plan on going until Week 11-12 with her but can't give nitrogen at this stage of flowering. Anything else I could try? Or is this normal?
Thanks! ๐
You can try giving them a feed of epsom salts, cheap and some people use that alone throughout the whole grow with great results. I am a firm believer too. If heat is a problem, you can raise your lights slightly. Also, if you do have any P,K boosters I'd use them now. Hope this can help you.
@Kaya666, I start growing my SD for the first time n like u I got attached to my 11 weeks babe haha
Im being really careful about nutri and gonna start using epson salt, gonna get some magnesium for her and some
Potassium as well
This has been a tough grow so far, y'all.
My last Solo cup grow was triple this size by Week 3. I think she got stunted early on but it's taking SO long to gain any upward growth! It seems to dislike being close to the CFL bulbs despite not being hot & having the fan blowing on them. The stem also looks thin & weak compared to my last plant at this stage.
The plan for Week 3 is to use a little "homemade" urine fertilizer (diluted at a 12:1 ratio) & see if that spurs any growth. Also gonna make sure not to let any more dehydration mishaps occur like last week. New growers are always chastised for OVERwatering so I guess I have a phobia of that. Once flowering starts in earnest I'll pull back to an 18/6 light schedule but for now we have to make up for lost time. I don't have a timer so I have to sit up late & turn the lights on before going to sleep.
@Kaya666, I'm kidding :) there are plenty of other 100% organic things you could use for fertilizers and they have different things in different ratios, so you could fine tune the feeding process to use other than this, I'll shoot you a dm.
It's a big difference when you use fertilizers like that indoors and outdoors, especially for your first grow it could get complicated
@bobo420, Gotcha :) Might get some chemical ferts in the future. For now I'm sticking to basic natural soil enrichments & seeing what I can do with the bare minimum. I see too many people burning their plants with various chemical ferts & I'm just not comfortable yet using those as a noob. Will definitely flush everything out before harvest (if I get that far).
P.S. - No shitting in the grow room. ๐
@Kaya666, :) yeah, but decent fertilizer costs 10-20$, no need to shit in the corner and you know exactly what you're plants are getting. The urine and manure have their nutrients in them, but that's a long way from having them in them and making the plant use them. Not to mention that you plant doesn't need all the nutrients all the time in the same aspect. But that's a way to save 10$ I guess, glad you're not sharing your stash with me :)
If you did a full auto on a solo cup and cfls before I've just got to congratulate you. I know autos a pretty forgiving to much abuse, like not having to follow any light schedule, or time out your flowering, they don't typically need as many nutrients(for fear of damage) and everything else that makes them great. They are really the best type for beginners for that reason. However the hardest thing for me to realize was every seed and every plant are different, and will have different needs. This plant may be completely unlike your first in everything it needs.
Happy growing.
Looking good from here :)
Week 7 so no more growth just bud production ;)
Looks nice and frosty and now is the time to give some potassium and phosphorus ;)
Those buds should really start to stack on weight over the next 2-3 weeks then harvest will not be far away ;)
I'll drop back in on the next update ;)
All the best
Mark.

This is very valuable information for the new grower. Thank you for the feedback mate :)

@DinafemSeeds, - Hi, I was very concerned as well! About 75% of the leaves went yellow in 4 days after feeding some homemade banana tea fertilizer. It's a common organic recipe online that's supposed to supply potassium but I definitely went overboard.
I did a full flush with plain water day before yesterday & got all the remaining yellow liquid out of the container, then gave a small feeding of a general low-potency fertilizer to restore NPK. She seems to be recovering well, as the buds are still fattening up & getting frosty and the yellowing has slowed.
I keep my temperatures in the '70s; generally 74-76 F with an oscillating fan to keep the air moving. Not sure about the other measurements, as I only bought pH strips yesterday & haven't fed any liquid bottled nutes at all. It was definitely the banana tea that caused the sudden yellowing of the leaves, so I'm hoping the flush will fix it.
Thanks for your concern! I didn't know JUST how hardy she was when I made that comment, haha. Growers take note: Dinafem Sour Diesel Auto can survive serious abuse by a virgin grower! ๐
@Kaya666, She can take some abuse mate a very hardy lady :)
I'm slightly concerned about the yellowing and drying out of the leaves so fast!
What's your
Temps max/min
Ph max/min
Ec/ppm max/min?
All the best

Is this a joke? Why the insistence on the tiny cup and no nutrients? If she does get big sheโll drink all the water you can pour into her while youโre at work, and then wilt by evening. Then sheโll fall over.
rollitup.org holds an annual solo cup competition if you want company

@growdoctordc, - Not a joke. Just a small, stealthy grow by a noob trying to learn more about the growing process. Can't afford to have a giant smelly plant in my closet at the moment due to space & legal restraints. Everybody starts somewhere. She may not be much, but she's mine. ๐
Thanks for the heads-up. I've seen some monsters in those Solo cup threads over at RIU & Autoflower.net. ๐ช
@Experimentgreen, THANKS! She definitely looked darker green & much healthier after that drooping incident when I added water. Will be bumping up the water as she grows in that little cup for sure. ๐
