All 8 seeds went into a small cup of water on the afternoon of March 30th and all 8 were showing small taproots within 24 hours. The following day they ware moved into rooting plugs and put under a dome 24" below the light set to 60W. Over the last 10 days the lighthas been bumped up to 80W and the plugs have been planted into 4" nursery pots. This grow will eventually be cut down to 2 final plants that I will put into flower for the competition. The remaining plants will finish growing outdoors and some will be given to friends to finish.
Day 3 of vegetation (day 16 since germination). They are looking good so far, but I over watered them like I always seem to do at this stage, so that are a little smaller than they could be. They should catch back up over the next week though. I'm only keeping two for this contest so I'm not too concerned about the over watering at this point.
Day 10 of vegetation (day 23 since germination). The plants were definitely over-watered last week so I let the dry out and get those roots to build out. I culled the plants that were the most damaged and kept the four best looking plants. On Friday they were transplanted into 1 gal pots, dusted with Mykos, and watered. I decided to keep 4 for the competition, but I only have enough soil left for three and I have surgery coming up next week, so I'm going to grow 3 to completion for the competition. The 32" x 32" tent will be a pain to deal with after my surgery so I'm hoping to swap it out for a 2x4 tent mid week and will be adding another 1600W strip light so I can get even coverage across the plants.
Day 18 of vegetation (day 31 since germination). Each plant was given 300mL compost tea on Wednesday but nothing else has been done to them over the last week. I still need to get the new tent assembled, and the plants put into their final pots, so I'm hoping that will happen tomorrow.
Day 24 of vegetation (day 37 since germination). The plants were transplanted into 7 gallon pots on Monday and the plants were moved into the new 2x4 tent on the same day. Worm castings & fertilizer were mixed into the top few inches of soil on Wednesday and they were each fed 1L compost tea yesterday. The plant on the left looks perfect, but the other two plants seem to be more finicky. I'm not sure exactly what is going on with them, but it looks a bit like a zinc deficiency to me.
Day 31 of vegetation (day 44 since germination). The problematic plants are finally starting to look better. The new growth on them is a lot healthier than the last week, and the middle plant had a growth spurt that got it taller then the other plants, so I topped that plant this morning in order to give me some variation between these contest plants. Each plant was fed 600mL compost tea, yesterday, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 38 of vegetation (day 51 since germination). The plants really took off in growth over the last week, and the finally started offset node growth, so each plant was lollipopped today and will start their flower cycle tomorrow. Each plant was top dressed with flower fertilizer and fed 700mL compost tea, yesterday, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 7 of flower (day 58 since germination). The plants have continued to grow at a steady rate over the last week and the pistils are coming out. Lower branches that will never make it to the top of the canopy were removed as were large lower fan leaves. Each plant was top dressed with flower fertilizer (switched over to Roots Organics Uprising Bloom) and they were also fed 700mL compost tea, today, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 15 of flower (day 66 since germination). The plants have continued to grow at a steady rate over the last week and the buds have started forming. The short and bushy plant (one on the right) ended up being a hermaphrodite, which seems to be common with this phenotype, based on what the other growers are seeing. Rather than cull the plant, I decided to remove all of the nodes except the top two from each branch. Then I removed all of the pollen sacs from the remaining nodes and will keep an eye on them throughout the flower process. If they keep coming back then I will cull the plant, but I really want to see how this phenotype finishes. The middle plant grew past the lights so I had to supercrop the tallest branches on that plant. Each plant was fed 700mL compost tea, today, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 21 of flower (day 72 since germination). The plants have continued to grow at, but the vertical growth slowed down mid week, and I think it is done not. One stem on the middle plant grew past the lights, again, so that stem got supercropped a second time. I found a couple more pollen sacs on the right plant on Tuesday, but I think they were just missed on the first round of plucking, so I removed them. I haven't seen anymore since and I've been checking the full length of every stem. I received a roots organics dry amendment sample pack from Aurora so I top dressed each pot with 1TBSP of Phos Rock and 1TBSP of Super Phos Rock (I only used both because I didn't have enough to feed a full dose of just one). Each plant was also fed 700mL compost tea, today, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 28 of flower (day 79 since germination). The stretch definitely wasn't done...I was away for the week for work and came home to the plants grown 4-6 inches past the lights. I super cropped all of those branches, yesterday, so they are around 6 inches below the lights. Each plant was fed 700mL compost tea, today, that was brewed for 24 hours.
The smell is coming through nicely on these plants and they currently have a smell to them similar to a granny smith apple. I'm sure that profile will change a bit throughout flower so I'm excited to see how these turn out!
Day 36 of flower (day 87 since germination). The stretch seems to be dine and the smell of these plants is starting to come through strong. They have gone from a green apple smell to a really strong smell of oranges just over the last week. They have a bit of that sugary cereal scent to them as well. The humidity has been out of control here lately but the plants seem to be handling that just fine. Each plant was top dressed with 1TBSP Roots Organics Bloom and was fed 700mL compost tea, today, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 42 of flower (day 93 since germination). No major changes over the last week. The growth has slowed down, and the buds are fattening up. Each plant was was fed 700mL compost tea, today, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 49 of flower (day 100 since germination). No major changes over the last week but the buds are still fattening up. Humidity has been a real issue this year so I finally bought a dehumidifier for the room. It's making a huge difference but that isn't shown in this weeks numbers. Each plant was top dressed with 2 TBSP Roots Organics Bloom and fed 700mL compost tea, today, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 56 of flower (day 107 since germination). The dehumidifier is making it a lot easier to keep things where I want them. The terpene profile is shifting again. It still has a nice citrus scent to it but it's also getting that burnt wiring smell, similar to what I've smelled in the Topanga Wedding I grew last year, which I really like. Plants are finishing up nicely. Each plant was fed 700mL compost tea, today, that was brewed for 24 hours.
Day 63 of flower (day 114 since germination). The plants are finishing up nicely and will be harvested either tomorrow or mid week. Plants got nothing but water all week and the flowers look and smell really nice. I'm curious to see what kind of weight I will get. The flowers aren't huge, but they look very dense.
This cross seemed to be very hungry for calcium early on so I struggled with it until I realized that was the issue.
The tall pheno was a lot more trouble free to deal with and looks like it's the keeper. It went from a green apple smell to more of a strong orange scent with a burnt rubber/electronics smell by the time it was ready to harvest.
The short pheno I grew wound up with some pollen sacs early on but they never came back after plucking them all. It seemed to be slower to ripen than the tall pheno so I expect it to have a more energetic high since it was harvested at the same time and was much more "green" when I chopped it. The smell on this one was slightly more piney than the tall pheno. I will get the weights and effects in a week or two once they've fully dried and have started curing.
The plants were harvested on Tuesday and went into drying that day. I'm expecting to be able to trim them up and get them curing, by the end of the week, and will wrap up this diary once that happens and I can get the final dry weight.
