This is my second grow and the first diary.
I have been studying the growing process of cannabis for almost 2 years yet I still feel I only know a little. I suppose I have a fair understanding of the concept in each suggested steps throughout the growth cycle, though, I wish to understand the mechanism in each action as well.
The first grow was done in 99% of uncertainty. I feel like the plant did most of the work.
The first grow:
- Strain: Blue Dream (MSNL)
- Soil
> Horse manure compost (~70%)
> Gypsum
> Peat moss
> Soil from garden
> etc.
- Light
> Maxisun 300w dimmable LED
> Grow tent (3x3)
- Nutrient
> Random nutrient products from flower store
- Result
> 46 g
> Not so dense
> Skunky smell?
To conclude the first grow, it was about 30% of what I expected. There is so much to improve.
It took a long time to decide to start this grow since I always felt I was not ready. However, this quote helped me to make up my mind, "To do is to understand."
My focus will be to understand mechanism and purpose of each action required for the plant.
I will add pictures and thoughts as the diary goes on.
I hope this becomes a good reference for new growers struggling in wonders.

Finally I've uploaded a few pictures!
In regards to up-potting, I am debating whether I should transfer directly to 5 gal pots or 1 gal then to 5 gal.
The light is great.
I've spent a fair amount of time on researching grow lights and I am glad with the final decision.
I hope to tell you more about the light in near future. Oh, the customer service was superb.
Here is a list of main equipment
- Light: Migro Aray 3 + Migro UVA (for flowering)
- Tent: Vivosun 3x3x6
- Fan: AC Infinity CLOUDLINE T4
- Other: cheap floor fan, humidifier, air bubble pump (to infuse air in nutrient solution)

D22
BD
- Leaves starting to go crisp and decaying pale as if demon licked on the leaves all night.
- It may be a sign of magnesium or manganese deficiency so I fed a little more. (I'd appreciate a comment on this. Thank you!)
- I am not sure if Remo Grow is good enough.
TW
- A little droopy, but seems to be growing at a consistent pace.
etc.
- Planning to up-pot to 1 gal smart bag on D23 > D27 morning
Transferred to 1 gal smart pots.
I was planning to top them last week, but I decided to let the roots settle first.
Blue Dream seems to have recovered that newer leaves seem fine.
I will need a big container for water.
I would really appreciate any comment on how they look. For now, my biggest concern is to have roots settled asap.
TrainWreck (TW)
- Has been droopy even before the first defoliation. It still is:(
> Flushed the pot with tap water (2 L) + Magnifical (3 mL) (May 24th)
- Possibly too much light. I will lower it today.
Blue Dream (BD)
- Seems to be doing ok. I will let her be until TW catches up.
Any wisdom regarding TW? Please?
Hey!
The original plan was to flip to 12 hr schedule last week (June 1st), but since two plants are sharing a tent, I decided to wait till Train Wreck to settle.
Eventually and thankfully, the TW came back and defoliated and trimmed both plants (June 5~6).
Surprisingly TW seems to be fine; it's been able to hold up leaves and looking vibrant, and I plan to flip starting tomorrow morning (June 8th)
Train Wreck
- Issues with droopy and wide leaves almost solved by flushing with tap water then re-watered with MagNifiCal (2 ml/gal).
- (June 6th) Defoliated most of leaves and unwanted branches (they were under-grown and blocking air/light ways).
- Will likely to have 6-8 colas - 4 on sides and 2~4 in center.
Blue Dream
- There was a nute burn and I lowered the nute level. I didn't mind too much that it had to wait for TW to catch up.
- (June 5th) Defoliated most of leaves. Trimmed the lower growth tips and tried to leave more leaves pointing outwards.
- It seems like it is ready for the flowering stage.
A few issues
- I will have to feed differently to each plant for its condition.
- Leveling the light can be challenging for the same reason.
Please leave me any comment/question. I'd love to work it with you.
