May 26: bunch of plants got badly burned from too much potassium (and likely other things) when they were transplanted. Maybe plants love barley SST, but seedlings don’t like it when the soil has been pre-treated with SST.
These plants were flushed but I’m not sure they’re going to make it.
This one has always been a bit of a slow grower. At first I thought it was the overly heavy starting soil, but she has never really thrived.
July 15: might be picking up the pace.
July 30: last night of force flowering from 9pm to 9am.
This was a good week for most plants including this one. See Smoothie x Panama Lime diary for details regarding compost tea.
All plants were short of N so everyone got a couple of waterings with Megacrop to get back on track. Have started a grass and weeds tea to provide additional N as the fish fertilizer is too expensive to use at this scale.
Sep 6: nice enough plant but small and slow growing. This is supposed to be a good old school skunk so maybe part of that is it’s slow compared to modern strains.
Sep 27: she has always been a bit of a slow grower, but she’s now bulking up nicely. Seems bigger just in the last week.
Sep 30: running out of time here in the season so harvested upper colas. Ideally I’d leave them longer but I can’t. Harvested about 200 g wet.
Oct 7: froze last night so harvested remaining lower buds. These didn’t get enough sunlight the last month as my grow area is mostly shaded after early September. 95 g wet buds in chop 2 for a total of about 290 g wet.
She was always a slow grower but ended up okay after being force flowered in late July. Some of the slow growth is due to the starting soil being too heavy but I also think these old school skunk genetics are just slow compared to modern autos.
Weight is approximate as this is all going for hash.
She was always a slow grower and was force flowered in late July. The sunlight gets weak quickly after mid-August this far North (53N) so I will do force flowering in early July next year. That will allow the buds to mature under stronger sunlight.
If you would like to speed up the start of your plants, they grow much faster with promix hp or nutramix hp. Peat and perlite. Feed the babies 400 ppm from sprout and increase 100 ppm every week while you see good growth. If you want to transplant to dirt their usually good and developed within 10 days to 2 weeks to go to their final home and will be much happier then a slow dirt start. Luck with your grow friend.
@GMSgrows, thanks for the comment about Pro-Mix. I did switch and I’m amazed how much better it is for starting seeds. My germination rate easily doubled compared to the lousy results I was getting before...I think my soil is too sodic for starting seeds. It’s also better during transplanting and holds together nicely despite being so light.
@GMSgrows, thanks. I added about 40% peat to the Solo cups trying to lighten the soil but it could have been even lighter. I was a bit hesitant to use a peat/perlite mix as I thought that might be tricky to transplant the autos. But whatever, I agree things are pretty slow. However, that’s likely just as well considering how fucking cold it’s been this week. My biggest problem starting plants was the high sodium well water which has since been sorted out. First year at large scale so expected problems but that was a nasty way to start. Cheers.
Happy growing! I hope you get some good results! Take care and stay lit! I will drop by sometimes to check on your process! Say hello if you ever visit my page!
