Athosanswered grow question 7 years ago Solo cup (16 oz, 500 cc) are ideal for starting seeds. Over watering is the main reason we learn to transplant, so we don't use a too big of a pot, resulting in watering too much.
Ideally after watering, the container should hold enough water for the plant for a period of 4 days to 7 days. If it takes longer than that, then the container is too big, if it takes less than that, then it's time to transplant.
When transplanting you should use a pot, more or less, 4 times bigger than the one you are using. I personally go from 500 cc, to 2 liters, to 11 liters.
If you are using a bigger pot, you then water just the soil under the plant, not the whole pot.
The following chart is the daily water intake for my plants, according to my temperatures, and how long it takes for the pot to feel dry after completely saturating them.
Plant age
a. Up to 10 days 40 cc
b. Days 11 to 15
70 cc
c. Days 16 to 25 100 cc
d. Days 26 to 30 150 cc
e. Days 31 to end 200 cc
