To germinate I find that it works best for me to soak the seeds first in a little RO water mixed with Hydrogen Peroxide overnight and then put them in between moist paper towels in a Tupperware container. I place the container in a kitchen cabinet and wait for them to crack open. In this case the whole process took just 2 days or within a 48 hour period. Companion growing with basil. Phenotype 1 has Purple Basil and Phenotype 2 has Sweet Basil.
So far this has been an ok week. I am having a little trouble with the air temperature and my humidity levels. Currently I have raised the light to 3 feet and it seems to be helping a little. I have been also spraying the inner walls of my tent to help raise the RH levels and at the same time helping to keep my temperature in range. The canopy area isn't unpleasant at all, it's just a little over the range that I like. I know that I can use a humidifier to help with the issue but where is the fun in that, besides that is just more to tend to. I figure worse come to worse I will raise the lights all the way to the roof of my tent, which is the upper fan area as well. Nonetheless the girls are doing exceptionally well. As for nutrients, I am using Down to Earth Organics. The pots themselves are layered so that there is more N than PK in the top layer to aid in veg and more PK than N in the bottom layer. Besides a normal watering the plants have only been given a mild Bokashi solution.
Seems that raising my light has fixed my RH issue, we will see how long this lasts as I have raised the intensity of my lights to 90% and I expect the RH to lower a little. The girls have started yoga and it seems that Pheno 2 with the Sweet Basil has a slight advantage over Pheno 1 which has a Purple Basil companion. As far as watering goes, I only have watered once this week and that was with a carbonated water mixture. Everything is on the up and up and I believe I am in better shape now than I was last week with growing conditions. As Always Happy Growing and Good Harvesting 🙏
Really happy with this week. After adding a living mulch layer everything has finally stabilized. To be honest I believe that I will just start adding a living mulch to all of my grows from here on out. As everything is a learning experience, I think that I can maintain a very happy little ecosystem in a single pot! Pheno 2 with the Sweet Basil Companion is taking off and leaving her sister with the Purple Basil Companion behind. This is my first overtime using Purple Basil as a companion and unless something spectacular happens in the upcoming weeks, it'll be my last. The girls got a nice home brewed compost tea filled with all sorts of goodies and seem to be loving it. LST gets adjusted every other day. As usual Happy Growing and Good Harvesting 🙏
The girls have started to bush out and are growing nicely. This week the girls got a nice feed of Carbonated Phosphorus Water and seem to love it! Until next time, Happy Growing and Good Harvesting Growmies💪
The girls are finally in flower! The smell that is already coming off of her is amazing, her aroma is overpowering both varieties of basil in my tent. Even Pheno 2 with the Purple Basil Companion is starting to grow up and explode. I have upped their feedings to twice a week as they seem to have a stronger appetite. This week I gave them a Cal/Mag/Phosphorus solution and they both seem to be responding well to it. On a side note my Purple Basil Companion is starting to flower already...I hope that she will last the 5-6 weeks that are left...stay tuned growmies and enjoy the experience👊
