4 GDP seeds from ILGM dumped inside a double-solo cup half filled with tap water (probably around 7.5pH, current tester broken). Looking to leave seeds soaking for 12-16hrs, then transfer to wet paper towel inside of ziplock bag.
Germ temp: 74°
Mid-way into the 2nd week, lil babies are doing their best. Started the VT300 on 100% veg (learned my lesson last time about dimming too low) and will likely slowly increase bloom light so it's 100% veg | 100% bloom by the start of flowering.
Performed my FIRST TRANSPLANT THIS WEEK. Babies were exactly 4 weeks into veg. Unfortunately I didn't have 3.5 gal fabric pots (wanted to specifically use fabric this grow) so I transplanted right into their 7gal homes. Definitely a little snug in my 2.5x2.5 😅. For the transplant I actually utilized Mykos root innoculant. Coated the transplant hole pretty well, and sprinkled onto the rootball. Roots looked great, perfectly thick and white, no rootbound issues to report!
The soil was actually cooked for about 3 weeks prior to the transplant, and by cook I just mixed FFOF (1.5 cu ft), 1 cup of Garden Lime (derived from dolomite lime, 99% or something), and 8qts (1 bag) of perilite. Let it all sit together to allow the lime to break down more nutrients in the soil. Prewatered soil day before transplant, then again right after transplant. Maybe going to get into a living soil solution for future reference? So much easier maintenance.
These babies have been fed a little Floralicious+ with every watering, "Recharge" once a week starting on the 3rd week (I haven't started brewing yet, just mixing straight into water as the last component), and a little pH down because my tap runs at 7.5. Basically able to eyeball at this point, but I do have a handy Dr. Meter pH pen verifying I stay within 6.3-6.5 pH for all waterings. I just use tap water that I fill gallon jugs with and leave out overnight.
These babies are getting thick, just as the reviews mentioned for this strain. The lights are also about 18in and on full veg blast so they aren't stretching too far which is making them thicker 😂. All in all, babies went through the transplant very well with minimal shock. They're loving life and I'm loving them!
Will look to top plants once a week probably until the end of veg (4 tops) and perform LST when they're taller.
Funny, GDP #1 seed had an issue releasing its shell. Those same problems are slightly apparently in some of the leaves as a twisting curl, just cool to watch genetics meet environment.
Humidity says 90% but that was a delayed reading; actually more like 70-80% consistently but I just watered before the pictures were taken.
6 week update! These babies might get topped one more time (topped twice so far I believe?) and then just chill for the rest of the veg cycle. Performed LST on them this week as well, maybe a little overdue. Going to maintain the LST every 3 days or do to keep the plants tight and stretched, they seem to be handling the LST and topping very well! May potentially do a 9 week veg, but I see no deficiencies, burns, or any other issues so far. Going to need to decide if I'm going to amend the soil or use bottled nutrients to provide more P-K during flowering, updates to come.
I haven't fed them any of the GH Trio this entire grow. Entire feed as follows:
Weeks 1-4: Happy Frog + Perilite in solo for 4 weeks, pH water with Floralicious+ on week 3 and every water after. Used "Recharge" as well to help feed the soil, I'm using about 1tbsp once a week mixed right into my normal unbrewed tap water.
Weeks 5-8: FFOF + Perilite + Lime for last 4 weeks. Still pH water with Floralicious+ every feed. Recharge once a week.
Been so nice not having feeding bottles for the most part. As I mentioned in the last update, I'll most likely be switching to either a hydroponic or living soil setup because they just overall seem to benefit growth/yield, level of maintenance effort, and long-term cost efficiency.
I also included some quick pics of the main tools I use for anyone interested! Using a PPFD meter to calculate lux for light efficiency at my ideal height (Urceri $30; amazon), a Dr. Meter pH pen (Dr. Meter $35, amazon), and a soil moisture meter (Sonkir $10, amazon). Those in addition to my humidifiers/heaters/fans and my supplements (Mykos for transplants, Recharge for a bunch of other stuff, Floralicious+ for taste/smell (personal experience 10/10 definitely increases terpene quality, and pH up/down but almost always just pH down)) are the only things I've added besides my water and soil.
Been finding a love for spending time in the garden. Learning about these plants has allowed me to learn about myself too! Will definitely keep sharing the trades I've learned!
