To preface this grow. This is my second run ever and my first run on Coco DWC using autopot system. My first run I ran a basic amended soil with no real target for soil ph set. Just simply organic compost and about 12% castings. I ran full manufacturer's dosing recommendations on city tap with high tds to start with. I had some serious nute issues late veg early flower. I suspect the issue was compounded due to ph swing, high ec, over watering and ph rise in soil due to infrequent watering, as well as ph rise in reservoirs from poor aeration and no beneficial microbes. That all being said I have new targets this run mainly consistenting of monitoring and targeting of PH and EC. I was at a bit of a loss in regard to the ph rise in my resevoir so with some research I have decided to try out TorusHydro perfect ph inline edition for my 25g dwc reservoir. I am running RO water made by my smallboy 150ro by Hydrologic. I have noticed some manufacturers recommend daily water changes for Coco nute solutions. I am going to attempt to do new water as infrequently as I think is acceptable as reflected by total ec in my feed water. I am using week one solution target EC of 0.5-0.7 and PH 5.5-5.7 for germinating. I added some bonus photo's of a homemade grow room I constructed.

Grow going well, hand watering as needed for first 2 weeks. Plants germinated quickly. I soaked the seeds in solution for 4 hours then wrapped in a piece of paper towel and planted directly into coco with a small glass cover to trap humidity. All seeds germinated within 60 hours. Keeping HLG 600Rspec at 240w.

Noticed calcium deficiency starting to reveal itself. Went from 1 ml calmag to 4.5ml per gal as I had room for it according to EC This is above manufacture recommended dosing by .5ml. I also boosted Nitrogen dosing by .5ml/g to raise EC closer to target. Weekly targets are EC 0.8-1.0 PH 5.6-5.7

Starting autopot system and root aeration this week. Stay posted for updates. Day 1 You remember that movie "Training Day"? It's sorta like that. With a light trim for the buried leaves on lean. Day 3 continued lst, also some defoliating to encourage growth and light up the nodes. Day 7 did a final pin for the week. #5 and I had a tug of war, We both lost. Start somewhere other than the top when tieing. But otherwise I am real proud of my pinning and hope it's right on the money.

Mine is lst training. I did a daily picture lst on my larry lemon auto diary. If curious how and when. I usually get a quarter pound off each auto roughly as a average final weight. Good luck and happy growing 🌱🌱🌱

Continuing the LST with minor defoliation as necessary, waiting on preflower to start. Things are going well, I upped the wattage on the hlg mid week 3 and seen some minor tip burn on a couple leaves today. Went back to 240 for another week and I'll revisit the idea.

Hst and Lst training has gone well as far as getting canopy uniform. Hoping for some nice stretching going on now. Started running new A B Conisour Bloom by Advanced Nutrients. Mixed 10 gallons with other nutes and my EC was around 1.8. Diluted to 1.3 as it is weekly target with 6.0ph. Plants dont seem to mind. Targeting vpd for flower at 78° and 65% RH. Ladies are responding well to all the training hoping for a last push as flower goes full swing. Plants are stout and layed almost completely vertical. Growth seems dense and fast and all plants have responded well to thinning of foliage. The plant that was topped seems to be about where all the others are. Most are in pre flower. They all are expected to be in flower by the end of grow week by all indications. Added a low budget led grow light with red and blue so I added that into the mix, feeling confident I have temps under control.

Grow is going well. Ladys are happy. Flower seems to be coming along later than normal. Trying for some good stretch while I'm waiting on flower to go all out. Wondering if I went to hard training or if it's just a genetics thing. Weekly EC target 1.4- 1.5 and PH 6.0 - 6.1 vertical growth has been allowed this week as footprint is mostly full. Plants have taken on roughly 3 to 4 inches this week in response and anticipation of future need I Added SCROG net day 5 and you will see why in following weeks. 😁😁😁

Ladies are looking happy lots of stretching and bud development underway. Will be an exciting week. Watching for calcium deficiency. Noticed symptoms displaying as big stretch was hitting. Wondering if this is a common auto trait. Had a similar issue growing with amended soil last grow. Flower seems to have come on slow, was thinking it was me and my training but I have a feeling it's a genetic thing. Looked thru many diaries and FR seems to run long sometimes. Check questions for more info about this. Added a second SCROG on day 6. Had a amazing 8.5" vertical growth this week. Sooo many bud tops. It's going to be beautiful!

How common is it for a autoflower strain to run long say instead of 9 weeks going 11. I have experienced early harvest and late myself.

All the time - it’s just the way it is with autos. 8-9 week seed to harvest is frankly the rarity.. I’m an advocate for photoperiods. With an awesome set up like yours.. an 8 week flowerer with 4 weeks of veg time is the same amount of time to harvest as most autos actually end up. Give one a try if you haven’t already and I’d bet ya you won’t look back. Autoflowers are combing ruderalis, Indica, and sativa (assuming it’s any type of hybrid which 95% if strains now are) .. it’s just more variation and genetic instability than regular photoperiods have and there’s still plenty with those. Anyways.. when you run a larger grow like this there’s no way to control your timeline or schedule cuz you can’t clone em and therefore you’ll have wild variations between the several plants. Looking good tho! Keep it up and give photos a run sometime 😉

Big time stretching and flower growth. Did another decent defoliation. These Forbidden runtz have very dense foliage. Was wondering if I needed a second net. I'm glad I got it. If you count the vertical portion of the plant stem we are at roughly 30" total growth so far. #1 is acting slow, prob due to heavy defoliating. I will let her run course at her own pace. It is what it is at this point. Learning thru doing is the best way to learn imho. Wonder full week. Targeted #s were ec 1.6-1.7 and ph 6.0-6.2

Everything looking great going into week 9, very exciting watching these ladys mature. Height management was difficult this run due to lack of training uniformity. Maxed out light height as these ladies are still quite tall even with intense LST.

Some of the girls are at 10% amber pistols. Will probably have staged flushing. Things are looking great added a quantum board by hlg. Some of the girls are aging out quicker than others. Will pinch off nute water and manual water for flush in comming weeks. Flush is 7 days out or so for one of the ladies.

Yeah you can just press it fresh and then you have “live rosin” I believe. No need to decarb if you’re smoking it in any form. If you’re going for edibles tho it would need to be decarbed

Grow was strong. Had some concerns regarding the autos and thier timing as far as switching into flower and not being 100% in sync with one another. It's just the nature of the genetics sometimes. Very happy with my seed supplier North Atlantic Seed Co, and equally happy with my Fastbuds seeds. Thanks for stopping in. Stay tuned for more harvest and weight info. Stay Frosty Friends!

@MrHightimes, I suppose my question is and I know you can't really definitely answer it not knowing all the variables but being I have LST hard and Defoliated hard. Do you think the extensive training is the cause for them to be behind? Or would you venture it's a genetic anomaly? I am trying to get a better feel for what I am seeing. Thanks for the feed back.
MrHightimes
MrHightimescommented4 years ago
@Mr_Horse, its pretty consistant 11-12 weeks for me, it does look like they're a bit behind but that might just make em 14weekers.... no big deal! big-o-shrubs!

@MrHightimes, I am concerned about the flower development at this stage. Being my second grow I am still getting my bearing about what's normal with autos grow time variations.
