Hello and welcome all!! So good to be back at it again. After the success of my first grow during the first heavy lockdown in 2020, a new love has been formed which I couldn't wait to refresh. For my second grow, I will be doing 2 strains from 420 FastBuds; Strawberry Pie Auto and Gorilla Cookie Auto. Having read some good reviews and receiving recommendations, these strains seem great! Should anyone have any advice, tips or tricks from their experience of growing either of these strains, please feel free to get in touch as all help is appreciated. Although I placed 3rd in the newbie of the month for my last grow (delighted by that, if you cant tell 😁) I am still very much a beginner. I look forward to hearing from you all and happy growing 💪
So week 1 wasn't quite as smooth for the Strawberry Pie as the Gorilla Cookies. She seemed to get tangled in herself while coming up and due to this, one of the cotyledon leaves ripped off as it popped out of the soil. It appears to have stunted her a bit as she recovers, which is expected. I had half thought about starting fresh with a new seedling but decided to use this as a test to see what a plant affected this way can actually achieve. Stunting early is the worst, but with a strain to test side-by-side, I shall take the potential yield hit in the name of science 😅 plus who doesn't like supporting the underdog!? I will be keeping a propagator on her for a little longer and will post updated images as the week progresses. Send all your best wishes her way and happy growing 😁
Update - Very surprised by the bounce back from the Strawberry Pie already! It is maybe only 2 days behind the Gorilla Cookies. Hoping that pace dosent slow in the coming days and weeks but props to her anyway!
Considering the stunted start, the Strawberry Pie is doing well. She is definitely a few days behind the Gorilla Cookie now, and that time gap has increased, but I hoping once it comes to larger growth in future, it shouldn't make too much difference. The slightest bit of yellowing has occurred at the center and a patch on the very bottom leaf, but nothing to worry about currently. I will keep an eye on it regardless. I will try a few softer tricks to speed her up a bit but nothing too intense. As with GC, I will start nutrients once she has a bit more growth in her, followed by transplant and LST. Wish her luck and happy growing 😊
She is starting to get some healthy progress going now! The Strawberry Pie is a bit more stubby compared to the Gorilla Cookies, a week behind at most, but considering her start I would say she is doing very well. I have started nutrients (Root juice and Bio-heaven from Biobizz) and she has taken to them well. I will be looking to transplant to a bigger pot at the end of this week, or maybe even next week, depending on growth. After a settling in period, I would like to start LST but we'll see how she goes. Thanks for checking in and happy growing 😁
I think the Strawberry Pie might be the dark horse in this race! So shortly after I posted last week it became clear the ladies needed a new home as they just started to hit flower so I didn't want to put it off any longer. Transplant went flawless, no shock or stunting, as if they didn't even notice the move. On the contrary, they have both kicked on quite well. So well in fact that I started LST the very next day. They have both already responded well to the LST. The Gorilla Cookies has definitely sprouted new clusters quicker, but the SP looks much fatter, and I have a feeling she will be lapping all that light and bursting into life very soon. A fuller nutrients cycle has definitely helped this, but it feels like the SP is making uo for lost time after a bit of a stunted start. Watch this space! 😵😄 Thanks for checking in and happy growing 👌
The stretch on this girl is something to behold given the tricky start! I have been actively keeping her closer to the light than the Gorilla Cookies but she just keeps reaching. Complete roll reversal currently as she is getting to nearly twice the size of her companion. A lot more bud sites but much less dense on account of the stretch. With the heatwave it has been a tricky balance to strike while using a HPS bulb. An investment in an LED light will be needed in the future for the summer months I think. All going well it may be kept all year round but we'll see once I get some comparatives going. Slight increase in nutes this week all around and an increase in water too. Hard to keep up with her at this stage 😅 started defoliating too but only lightly as its relatively early in flower. Might get a bit more aggressive next week but we'll see. Thanks for checking in and happy growing all! 😁
Another great week for the "underdog"! With the smell getting stronger and the heatwave finally over, I can zip the tent up, turn on the carbon filter and lower the light more so she can get her rays. I recently had a brief pop up visit from some plantpot dapperlings due to a little too much water and a lot of humidity! After a lot of research, it seems they wont be an issue. Since letting the medium dry out and removing the fungi, they have not reappeared. But even if they had, there is an argument to be made about them being positive for the plants, but I wasn't taking the risk. Still, scary to check on your girls and see a few illuminous yellow tips popping out 😂 All in all, another strong week of progress 👍 Thanks for checking in and happy growing all
Another week down, another week fatter! Really starting to get a feel for the grow process now, having been able to track 2 strains and scrutinise the finer details. Although perfectly healthy, I feel I have nailed what must be done in terms of LST and the possibility of supercropping for the next run. But learning aside, I doubt there is much that would stop the Strawberry Pie now. She is loving the conditions! Not too far off some proper maturing around the bud sites, like her housemate currently. Smell hasn't become everpowering yet but that will change very soon. Again, thanks for checking in and happy growing all!! 😁✊
Happily fattening at this stage. A bit of yellowing on the leaves, but as I've up'd the nutes and for the timeframe she is in, this is completely normal. Fresh bulk still growing on the bud sites which is great to see. I would imagine she will be good for the chop in about 3 weeks, but I wont be rushing anything. I would like to cut both girls at the same time, but not sure if this will be possible as the Gorilla Cookies are very close I think. Decisions decisions 😬 Thanks for checking in and happy growing all 👍
Delayed update this week. probably a few days over the week but I will fix the schedule soon. She has been through a rough week and a bit. Since she is much taller than her cellmate, she has been closer to the light. With the small heatwave experienced, temps have been high which has led to foxtailing, Personally, this does not bother me in the slightest as it is just aesthetics. However, the continued heat seemed to provoke a very mild hermie switch. This was a much more worrying issue, as losing both plants to something like this would be terrible. After extensive research, it would appear this is connected to heat and shouldn't be something to worry about. I removed the plant and carefully removed the small few Nanner sites form the plant and she is back on course. No issue with the gorilla cookie so delighted about that. I feel it has been resovled and the internet has backed this theory, but the final smoke will tell. Stressful times 😅. Thanks for checking in and happy growing as always 😘💪
Another grow down, another knowledge pool swam! The Strawberry Pie strain was great, but took a beating from me 😅 She didn't react too well to the high temps and strong nutes early. In regard to temps, she began to foxtail earlier than most of the strain I have grown which was the first warning sign for issues to come. Near the end of the grow she hermied slightly, but thankfully there were no lasting effects from this That being said, she came out with a high yield of tasty green. There is a very tasty sweetness to the smell and smoke, and is definitely for the consumer who wants to smoke all day and get things done. I would have loved to show more pictures, but due to heavy data corruption I lost nearly all of the pictures from this plant post chop 😞
Thanks again to all the growmies who helped along the way, advice and guidance is always welcome well received 😁 Thanks for following along and I look forward to hearing from you in the next diary. Peace and happy growing to all ✊😍
