Here we go again! An organic 'just-add-water' setup this time round. Strain: Royal Queen Seeds - Northern Light Auto Nutrients: Easy Boost Organic Nutrition - slow release dry amendments that feed for approx 12 weeks. Easy Roots - Fungus Easy Roots - Root Bacteria Also: Easy Grow & Bloom stimulators for later (will discuss in a few weeks after using) BioBizz - CalMag (just in case) BioBizz - Alg-a-Mic (just in case) BioBizz pH+ / pH- Soil: BioBizz Light Mix Tent: RoyalRoom 60x60x160 Light: Mars Hydro TS600 - 18/6 all the way Can-Lite exhaust @ 100m3/h Mixing Fan - standard clip on fan Intake 50m3/h Humidifier - 5L automatic Pots: GroNest 11L fabric pots (dont leak through sides, only bottom) Mixed up 75% Light Mix with 25% extra Perlite Added 5g fungus & 5g bacteria for each pot. Nutrients - with them being dry amendments I mixed 2 ways: Pot on right I mixed as per manufacturers suggestion but left about 1L plug of clean light mix under the planting zone with 50g of nutrients mixed throughout remaining substrate. Pot on left I left a 1L plug under the planting zone but also kept the top inch or two of the pot nutrient free with 40g of Nutrients mix through remaining substrate thinking along lines of preventing first spreader roots at top of pot hitting the dry nutes too early. Sprayed each pot with about 1.2L of water - enough to get the whole substrate damp so the microbe rainforest gets to work before planting. I want to see which mixing method works best with these dry nutrients. If they grow well I will probably keep using this brand forever. Germinated in paper towel without a hitch, although lefty is a bit slower off the startline than righty, she still germinated fine. Righty just sprouted today so I'm giving birth to the diary at the same time. As I have a small tent and 2 autos that might reach upto 2.5 feet tall I may try a scrog this time round but that remains to be seen based on progress the next couple of weeks. Feeling prepared this time, let's see how they do. Stay tuned!

It's been a good week. Seedling on the left 'Lefty' was about 24 hours slower to appear above the surface than Righty, hence the slightly slower leaf development. Spraying / misting about 200ml pH 6.0-6.5 (allowing some variation) a day across the whole top of the substrate and leaving a circle about the same diameter as the plants leaves dry to encourage lateral root growth but putting about 5-10ml directly at the base of the stem, they look healthy and not drooping in the slightest. This medium 75/25 biobizz light mix : perlite definitely much more fluffy than my last grow and drying off nicely in between small daily waterings. Just about to give them their first booster - Easy Grow Booster tablets - suitable from tiny seedling through to flower (switch up to Bloom booster in flower). Apparently its mostly microorganisms & sugars and some trace nutes so not really expecting any issue with nute burns....it's organics afterall. If I post up in 24 hours that they are dying I won't be using them again haha Dosing for these boosters supposed to be 1 x 3g tablet in 3-5L of water, cause they are tiny seedlings I'm doing 1/4 tablet in 4L - solution can be kept for about a week (I'll keep it in my big sprayer you can see in the pics) and can be used daily so we'll see how it goes. I'll pH the solution daily to make sure it's not drifting. The booster tablets themselves feel like hash so easy to break up, they are not chalky and crumbly. Tab took longer to dissolve than expected, i'll give it 15 mins and pH it down to 6.2 All going well I'll see ya next week!

It's 14 days since they both sprouted. Lefty is a bit of a mutant - I had to help the seed casing off when she first sprouted and she was about 24 hours behind righty, not sure if it was a bit of stress but she definitely looks different to Righty even though they are both the same strain. I was tempted to pull the mutant but shes doing well and growing strong so I'll let her go to harvest. The RQS Easy Boost Grow Booster (veg booster) seems to be doing them well and its easy as cake to use. Gave them a big water of about 500ml each yesterday and thought I might have over done it (usual daily watering about 200ml) but they look like they loved it so I think they will start settling into a wet/dry cycle now. Very noticeable daily growth right now too. There is a bit of smell when I open the tent so I'm hoping it is a good sign of things to come. No problems at all so far but it is a bit warm at the moment, so trying to get into the VPD style with an RH of about 70% as daily temps running about 26-27oC I dunno if it is the genetics, the nutrients, the boosters or the fabric pots or the light but I think these girls are gonna do very well. I'll probably do some LST this weekend, I got some garden hooks - very thick wire, unlikely to cut into the branches - I boiled them up to sterilise them and think they will probably do a good job, trying wire off onto these fabric pots would be a challenge and I don't want to cut holes in them. I also got a scrog net so might do a basic scrog depending on how the LST goes. Always grateful of suggestions. Stay tuned, see you next week!

Been an interesting week. Gave them both some LST 4 days ago and they have bushed out nicely. They are going in to pre-flower now so I will probably LST for another 10 days and then just let them rip and see how they do, I hope they get a good bit of stretch on now so the canopy isnt shadowing all the budsites. Last watering (yesterday) gave them 1L each (no runoff) and they will probably need another water tomorrow, they seem to be getting thirsty, hoping to get them into a good high volume wet/dry cycle from here. Also included in yesterdays watering was some root bacteria - just about 1g per plant mixed into the water plus an Easy Grow Booster tablet at 1/2 strength (1/2 tablet to 4L water). Plants seem to be doing fine and I cannot fault any part of the setup. If they don't get big it means I just have to get better, I don't think it is the tools I'm using that would cause me any issues, just inexperience. See ya next week!

Another solid week without any problems, the girls are now officially 4 weeks old. LST'd the girls about 11 days ago now and they have bushed out very nicely, they are both moving into flower now and are growing visibly every few hours. They are drinking about 1L every 48hrs at the moment, no sign of any deficiency of any kind with these nutes & boosters. I wish I had more to add but I dont - no pests, no discolouration, no over/underwatering symptoms, no light bleaching, no heat stress, no pH problems.....although lefty is still a mutant and is a lil bit slower into flowering mode but I've almost got over that now. Any suggestions on the LST technique? Thinking I shouldda put soil all way to top to make it easier to tie, and allow more light pen and air flow on lower canopy but hey, you live n learn. See ya next week, happy growin' ya'll!

Made the final LST adjustments today. Switched to bloom booster. It seemed they both had a weird couple of days on low water intake but I weighed the pots yesterday at 3.17kg (right) /3.32kg (left) and gave them 500ml to see how they would do - they picked right up and this morning the pots were 3.07 & 3.17 respectively so they had drunk more than I put in - just given them 1L with some bloom booster (info below, not sponsored), some root bacteria and some BB Alg-a-mic (not entirely sure what it is supposed to be doing / if it is doing what is it supposed to but it sounded good). Weighed them in at roughly 4.2kg each and will measure in the morning. The bloom boosters I switched to are Easy Bloom by RQS - I went with their whole range fron fungus to bloom boosters and everything between and have not been disappointed in the slightest. Wondering if I should gently defoliate the plant on the right? Any suggestions anyone? Apart from that - I think the girls are smashing it. Lefty, the original 'mutant' seems to be indica heavy and Righty less so, shes definitely phatter in the leaf department. See ya next week!

The girls are 6 weeks old today. I have stopped LST Adjustments and am feeding approx 750ml-1L a day now with the 'Easy Bloom Booster' from RQS. Lefty the original 'mutant' has hulked out, hard and righty is fully blooming, I am expecting righty may even finish a couple of weeks before lefty. I did not anticipate this kind of result, and don't really have anything further to add - it's been easy so far...lets see how the last few weeks go..... Any suggestions always welcome, See ya next week!

Well, another solid week without any issues. Lefty the original mutant is making me very proud - in think she's gonna be massive and will probably go the whole 12 weeks as shes only really just stopped stretching and looks lovely. Lefty is drinking 1.75L every 2 days - pH'd water with algamic & bloom booster twice a week. Righty stayed shorter at about 38cm tall (including the lst bend) but is budding up a treat and the three biggest colas are about 20cm long each. Righty drinking about 600ml a day on the same regimen as Lefty, she's a very dark green which made me think N tox but she's never shown any real problems. I am tempted to thin some leaves out of the canopy on Righty to let the budsites get more light but am a big scared of doing so - I cut some small branches that were a total waste of space but removing foliage and trying to not do damage is daunting as I havent done it before and it is an auto. They are both starting to cannibalise their lowermost fan leaves and colour slowly but surely fading. Starting to smell good and they are both very different looking and smelling plants even though they both RQS Northern Lights or 'Aurora Ruderalis' as I like to think of them. Loving every bit of the setup and looking forward to a juicy harvest. See ya next week!

Does anyone think I should defoliate righty a bit? She fattening up well about 2 weeks to harvest. I am concerned about budrot as my temps great for VPD but canopy is dense so I am wondering about defoliating lightly for air flow. 2 plants in diary, not the one in the cover image

When it comes to end game defoliation that's called selective defoliation. Many people do this, myself included. The key is only remove 2-5 leaves each day for the next 2 weeks. Only remove leaves blocking good buddies. Only remove fan leaves, never sugar leaves. Go slow, if you take to much to fast they will hermie. Selective defoliation and normal defoliation are not the same thing. Your last heavy defoliation should be week 2 of flowering

The girls are officially 8 weeks old today. Righty has had a very light selective defoliation - didnt remove any big fans, just some shabbier fans blocking buds. She's looking like shes gonna be ready in the next couple of weeks or so and Lefty gonna need longer to mature. Not sure if Lefty is developing a bit of a cal or mag def so will give her a dose when I water her tomorrow, it could just be LED associated or maybe even the start of a fade but I would like to play it safe - she's a big girl and is under the light 20 hours a day and still has a few weeks left to flower. I gave them 1/4 of a RQS bloom booster (basically an organic tea) and some rhizobacteria with their last watering to get the rhizosphere pumping as much organic goodness into them before harvest as possible, they are blooming nicely so I assume the booster is working 😅 I wont be using any more bacteria for Righty this grow beyond this point - they would be a wasted resource as I am expecting a max of 2-3 weeks on Righty, Lefty might get a dose with maybe 4-5 weeks left cause she has always been slower but I am hoping that she is a very big girl come harvest time (even tempted to get her some BB TopMax for an added boost). They are both starting to smell great (good job I have a CF exhaust!) and I have a jewellers loupe on route to me - gonna be hunting for the first amber trichomes like it's OCD. As always, any tips or suggestions welcome! See ya next week!

This look like a Ca/Mg def to you guys? About to go into wk 5 of flower and symptoms slowly intensifying. Wondering if this is 'terminal diet' related and shes just gonna start fade or if just a deficiency to correct, any earlier I would try fix but at this point...what you think

It’s an auto! You should be finished in 2/3 more weeks—- I would just leave it and monitor the ph. Autos are more touchy to nutrients. That looks like fade and temp

It's the final countdown. They are fading now, every time I open the tent they are a little more pale, a little more fat and a little more stinky and drinking a little less water. Sorta like a pair of reclusive goths that I've kept in the cupboard a couple of months. Lefty has another couple of weeks left in her - yes she is fading nicely but she's still got a lot of foliage left to consume and her pistils are 85% white. She's had a bit of a clean around the ankles and I whipped off the shitey sucker buds that will never be much use although I kept everything that I trimmed from both so far for making some oils and edibles. I cannot believe how big Lefty is and how proud I am, considering that she looked like a dodgy mutant to begin with, big thanks and praise to the community members who encouraged me to keep her in the pot when I was very close to ripping her out and putting a new seed down. When I chop Righty in a few days, I am gonna lash Lefty down with some LST and open her up to the full force of the ts600 right in her face to ripen her up as much as possible (whilst paying attention to temps, ppfd and DLI, of course). Righty. Oh, Righty. Hurry the fuck up you fat lil beauty cause I am gagging for a smoke! Her days are numbered, I tell ya, shes got like...3 amber trichs that I found after about 50 minutes of thoroughly examining every single calyx on her with a loupe, although she's still about 20%-30% glassy with the rest milky so I am gonna give her just another couple of days to really get to the sweet spot. She may not look like she has faded much, but considering she was so dark it looked like borderline N tox for the entire grow she is almost albino now. I gave them a water yesterday and they have gone from like 1-1.5L a day to about 400ml...at this point I think more is evaporating than they are actually drinking. When Righty is dry in a few days she will be facing the axe. They Stinkin. Hard. Like refreshers fizzy sweets (if anyone remembers them), if the sweets were made of battery acid and piss. My 100m3/h carbon exhaust can't keep the Stink seeping out of the 0.56m3 tent. At this point I would usually ask for suggestions or tips, but I honestly don't think there's anything left but to be patient (even though it is killing me inside) and get ready for harvest festival. Thanks for reading and see ya next week!

It is just Lefty, the original mutant still who is not quite ready - she won't be long, her trichomes are say 60% cloudy but her pistils just don't seem to be browning off yet even though the trichomes are well on the way, perhaps just another week or so left, wish she would hurry up so the Auto Big Cheese seeds can go in but hey, can't rush it. She is fading, has lowered water intake etc. - she is definitely on the way to harvest but it is simply a waiting game now to make sure I aint chopping too early. I gave a tiny top dress (pk heavy) and some Alg a mic so the microbes have something to keep them buzzing in the chance they can trickle any more nutrients to her tonpushbher over the line. I may even give some bloom booster if she is dry after tomorrow but am on the fence in case it is just a waste of resources. That's all for this week for Lefty - wish I had more to say but it is just the waiting game now. On the other hand, I had a lil dry nug from Righty's harvest and god damn! Even though the chlorophyll hasnt broken down anywhere near enough she is a lovely smoke, smooooooth. So smooth you don't realise you are high until you feel the muscles relax in your face by which point them northern lights be flashin. Not long to go now, stay tuned and I will see you in a week...or sooner if Lefty magically turns all pistils brown in the next couple of days!

This just a page dedicated to Lefty's harvest. The final harvest week has been fully updated. So...Left has reached harvest. Finally. Big shout out to everyone who encouraged me to grow Lefty out when I was thinking of removing and replacing back when she was a wee mutant. She may have been slow but she got big in the end and blossomed into a woman at just shy of 12 weeks old. Then I chopped her down and trimmer her up and stuck her back in the tent to dry. That scrog net sure is starting to come in handy. Chopped at about 75% milky, maybe 3-5% amber and the rest clear, I am getting old and love the rushy feeling, it breathes some life into these old bones o' mine. Final results: Chopped weight: 360g Wet Trimmed weight: 250g Dry weight: TBC - I didn't water her for 5 days now so expecting maybe 70-80g (I will update the harvest page with a conservative 70g and make a final update once she is all dried out). Drying conditions will be approx 21-22oC and around 60% rh See the harvest page for the final final results! Didn't realise that your final harvest date overrides any previous harvest week so I added this page before realising that. Old man computer failure.

Update 14th September 2021 - Harvest day for Lefty: Lefty has finally come down today, that marks the end of a chapter in The Chronicles of MrStinky. She was big. She was slow. She was, and forever will be, Stinky (kinda reminds me of an old flame). Firstly, big shout out to everyone who encouraged me to grow Lefty out when I was thinking of removing and replacing back when she was a wee mutant. Your benevolence kept her in the pot and scored me a sweet harvest. Growers, I salute you (with joint in hand, of course). That scrog net sure is starting to come in handy as a drying rack too. Chopped at about 75% milky, maybe 3-5% amber and the rest clear, I am getting old and love the rushy feeling, it breathes some life into these bones o' mine. Would have preferred more cloudy but ran the risk of more going amber, I don't need any assistance falling asleep. Final results: Chopped weight: 360g Wet Trimmed weight: 250g (nice manicure too) Dry weight: TBC - I didn't water her for 5 days now so expecting maybe 70g or so when she's dry Drying conditions will be approx 21-22oC and around 60-62% RH. What a great experience I had with this grow, when I finally realised that a lifetime in the garden outdoors is just like inside, I (think I) figured this gig out. Following harvest date 5th September 2021: Righty has come down today, she had not faded all the way but was getting some some ambers (maybe 2% amber / 85% cloudy) so I decided it was time to chop cause I love hype energy and not feeling like a red-eyed cabbage. I loved this grow from the start and love the results at the finish. Righty appeared to be a ruderalis heavy pheno and blazed through to harvest in just under 10 weeks - scouting around forums, the general harvest window is 8-12 weeks so I am pretty much slap bang in the middle. 280g wet before trim (main stalk still attached) 200g after a wet trim and some nice chunky buds. ---------------------------------The End------------------------------ Thanks to RQS for their years of dedication and hard work developing some truly fantastic genetics, I am really looking forward to getting stuck in to the 'Aurora Ruderalis' that is the legendary Northern Lights (auto). Luckily enough, cause if the staggered harvest, some is ready to go! Thanks to the community for the answers to the questions (although they were few and far between this time!). Thanks for staying tuned, You stay classy, GD Community See ya next week! :D
