Actually plan on growing these autos alongside my Kali Mist (photos). You can check out my 1st diary for more info. Starting these in the "glass of water" method for about 12 to 14 hours, then from there I will move to the "paper towel/plate" method till I get those tap roots going. I plan on planting the seedings into 1 gallon cloth pots and later down the line into 3 gallon cloth pots. Using "Fox Farm" products when the time comes for soil and nutrients. Also possibly worm castings. Comments, suggestions, tips are welcomed! New cannabis grower here so any help is appreciated. 😃-07/03/21
These autos have definitely sprouted a lot quicker then my photos. They're about to say good-bye to their shells altogether.-07/05-07/06.
The seedlings seemed like they were ready for soil, so I gathered my 1 gallon cloth pots and prepared them. Unfortunately I didn't have any starter soil for seeds and decided to take a chance and ended up putting them in a mix of Fox Farm Ocean Forest(half), Coco Loco (half) and 1 handful of worm castings. This mix was only in the majority of the pot except for about the top 5 inches where I decided to only use Fox Farm Happy Frog, it being at a lower nutrient content vs the Ocean Forest, giving a lower chance at harming my very first 2 seedlings...hopefully. I think in the future I will definitely get the seedling mix so that I don't have to worry about that. I also placed some Saran wrap over the top. Lowered the lighting to about 24 inches from the soil top and called it a day after watering them. The AC Infinity is reading the temperature at 78F and the humidity at 66%...both seem a bit high. I will need to work on getting these lower...maybe a dehumidifier and more fans. -07/06/21
Came home from work to find a little sprout! 😍 Watered them some more. The other seedling shouldn't be to far away since they were pretty close in the germination process... I hope! -07/07/21
Week 1 of Veg. (Jul. 11th-17th)
The Critical Purple Sprouts kept growing in their 1 gal pots. They were both germinated and put into soil at the same time, but you can definitely see that the two are growing at different rates. At the end of this week I read somewhere that autos didn't do well with transplanting, not sure how true this was but didn't want to take any chances. So I just went ahead and put them in their "forever" pots, which were 5 gallon cloth pots. I had also purchased a few items from the hardware store to make watering easier like 5 gallon buckets, 1 gal. pump sprayer, 4 bucket grids to use during watering and so that the pots can sit on and not get mold on the bottom side. (The 2 pots in the front in the first pic, were the Kali mist, they actually both failed from seed.) The Soil Mix in the 5 gal pots were about half F.F.O.F. and half Coco Loco, with some happy frog around top layer for the sprouts with a few handful ow worm castings mix in the soil as a whole. Whenever I watered the Ph. was between 5.9-6.2. Haven't used any nutrients.
Week 2 of Veg. (Jul. 18th-24th)
The Critical Purples have seen a lot of growth this week, even the runt. The R.H. of the tent was at 70%, so I wanted to start lowering it. I set up the dehumidifier outside the tent. Mind you, this set up is in an unfinished basement so it's usually pretty cool down there. It actually brought the RH to 53-55%, but it seemed to raise the temperature up a little and now sits at a steady 81F. I water only when the weight of the pots are noticeable light. I also began messing with some LSTing, using those small clips they sell online. I've read the ups and downs on them. I'll definitely have to keep a close look out. In the two last pics you can see that my dominate Critical Purple is staring to have issues. She's getting brown spots/blemishes and her leaf tips are starting to curl upwards. I read somewhere that the brown spots may have something to do with a Calcium deficiency. So when the plants were ready to be watered once again I added Cal-Mag and followed the 5ml to a gallon instruction on the back. The following day she seemed to have noticeable upward curling leaf tips. I wondering if it has anything to do with the sudden change in humidity, or the higher temperatures, or maybe the mix of the two. I decided to pull up my grow light from 25 inches to 31 inches and also brought the light intensity down from 80% to 60%. If I'm burning the plants or if its too hot hopefully that will make some difference. Might have to add some better fans. Or maybe a mini humidifier. Does it makes since to have both a dehum. and a humidifier? I had bought a double pack of black mini clip fans from amazon and not sure if they are doing the job. They were cheap, so I guess I got what I paid for. I have the oscillating fan but obviously not enough. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on these problems I'm having? Also I'm wondering if I should have already started some defoliation or Topping on the dom. C.P. yet? Do people here normally Top their autos? and if so around when do you finds the best time? Thanks.
Week 3 of Veg. (Jul. 25th-31st)
Critical Purples are doing their thing. Dom. C.P. has a few more brown spots/blemishes. dom. C.P. at 7 inches and runt at 3 inches. By the end of the week I somehow managed to completely decapitate my dominate Critical Purple. :0
(07/27) First time adding fox farm synthetic nutrients to the dominate Critical Purple. Added 1.5tsp of Big Bloom & 1tsp. of Grow Big to 1.1/4 gallons of water. Added more clips to dom. C.P. and added pipe-wire to it, on the base of the her and the top where I pulled her downward.
(07/28) Saw a few gnats things. Making sure to let the soil have a dry period to combat this.
(07/29) Runt was fed for the first time with same.
(07/30) After using pipe-wire to pull the Critical Purple down, the next morning I found the horror I had caused! I must have put to much pressure on the pull, I had completely severed her from the top. (Explained in last picture)
Is this like extreme topping!? hahahaha Lessened learned, hopefully I'll never do that again.
Water Ph was between 6.0-6.2
Temperature: Stayed at or near 81 degrees f.
Relative Humidity: At or around 55%
Week 4 of Veg/ Pre-flower/flower? (AUG. 1st-7th)
This week the ladies went through a lot of changes despite my accidental topping. Being autos I'm sure I lost some progress but like I said lessoned learned and plus it's my very first run so we're going to be making some mistakes here, just hopefully not a lot of them. 😅 Dom. C.P. at 12.5 inches tall and Runt at 6.5 inches tall. This week we saw a good bit of pre flowering going on with dom. C.P. and by the end of the week actual bud formation. The flower actually came out PURPLE! I'm excited for this one! 😀
(08/01) Defoliated both C.P.s and started LST on Runt. Fed them with 1.5 tsp. of F.F. Big Bloom and 1tsp. of Cal-mag to 1.1/4 gal of water.
(08/2) Added even more clips to the runt and pulled on pipe-wire a bit more on main stalk.
(08/4) Watered the Critical Purples with Ph water only. (Ph 6.2)
(08/5) Noticed the dominate C.P. seems to be in very early flowering stage.
(08/7) Fed dominate C.P. with 1.5tsp. of F.F. Big Bloom and 1tsp. of F.F. Tiger Bloom. Trimmed some fan leaves off of the runt.
Temperature: stayed at a steady 81 degrees f.
Relative Humidity: 54-56%
Water Ph/w nutrients: 5.8-6.2
Dom. C.P. measurement: 12.5 inches
Runt C.P. measurement: a little over 6.5 inches
Week 5 Flower Aug.8th-14th
The Critical Purple Autos had a bit of a growth spurt here, also we start to see some good areas of bud growth showing up mainly on the dominate C.P. I had to look up why the pistils looked pronouncedly bigger than I thought they would be and learned they were “fox-tailing”. Must be due to how close I had the lights to the plants I believe and the heat. 😬
08/09/2021- Fed dom. C.P. with only Cal-mag water 1tsp to 1.1/4 gallon. Watered the Runt with 1tsp of F.F. Big Bloom, F.F. Tiger Bloom and Cal-mag. Water Ph. 5.9 Temp: 83f, 55% relative humidity.
08/12/2021- Fed dom. Critical Purple with 1.5 tsp of F.F. Big Bloom and F.F. Tiger Bloom. I also defoliated the Runt. Water Ph at 5.7. The heat seems to be rising. Temp: at 85f and 54% relative humidity. Raised height of the LEDs up more.
08/14/2021- Gave the runt 1tsp. of Cal-mag and 1 tsp F.F. Grow Big, dom. C.P. with 1 tsp. Cal-mag and 1.5tsp F.F. Big Bloom. Temperature back down to 81. R.H. at 52%
Week 6 Flower AUG. 15th-21st
This week even more growth, by the end of the week the dom. C.P. was measured at almost 25 inches tall and the runt at 14 inches tall. The Runt started showing her buds and its very cool to see that I am growing two different phenotypes of Critical purple. 1 green shorty and 1 taller, purple one. They both got the exact same start so very interesting to see. 😃
08/16/2021- Fed dominate Critical Purple w/ 1tsp. Cal-mag and 1.5 tsp of F.F. Big Bloom. Temp: 81* with R.H. at 60% pH.5.9
08/18/2021-Fed the Critical Purples with 1tsp. of Cal-mag and 1.5tsp. F.F. Big Bloom to 1.1/4 gallon of water at pH of 6.1. Temp: 83* with 56% R.H.
08/21/2021 Fed both Critical Purples with 2 tsp. of F.F. Tiger Bloom. Temp: 81* and 58 % R.H.
Week 7 Flower 22nd-28th
Both C.P.s buds started to fill in the spaces on the stalks and they got bulkier! 😄 By the end of the week, the purple C.P. measured 26 inches and the green C.P. was at 15. The temperature stayed at 81* and the R.H. fluctuated from 57 -60%. The small growth (1inch) from last made me a little worried I might have fed them too much nutrients so just as a precaution I decided to water them with regular pH water the majority of the week.
08/23/2021- Watered the ladies with just regular pH water.
08/26/2021- Same as the 23rd, regular pH water and I defoliated both plants a little bit.
08/26/2021- Fed the Critical Purples with 2 tsp. of F.F. Tiger Bloom and 1tsp. Cal-mag.
Week 8 Flower Aug.29th-Sep. 4th
The ladies are looking better everyday. Temperature stayed at a steady 81* The purple Critical Purple is now at 27 inches tall and her sister at 16 inches tall. Those buds are defiantly fattening up and the smell is amazing! There is a variation in the smell between the two, getting a fruity smell, especially with the purple. We are currently still on track for a early October chopping! 😈👻👽
08/31/2021- Watered all the ladies with 1tsp of Cal-mag in 1.1/4 gallon of water.
09/03/2021- Watered everyone with 1tsp. Cal-mag again.
Week 9 Flower Sept. 5th-11th.
Temperature stayed mostly at 79* and R.H. was at or around 55%. They are looking fantastic so far. I have the lights currently at 85% intensity. I noticed I only took pictures once this week, my bad. 😅
09/06/2021- Fed the Critical Purples with 2 tsp. of F.F. Tiger Bloom and 1tsp. of Cal-mag.
09/08/2021- Watered all the ladies with regular pH 6.2 water.
09/11/2021- Watered with 1tsp of Cal-mag.
Week 10 Sept. 12th-18th
These babes are getting fat and the smell is strong, so strong that the basement is filled with the wonderful smell of cannabis throughout! HAHA! 😆 The temperature went back to a steady 81* with the relative humidity at or around 61% The ladies seem to be very thirsty; I need to make sure to water every other day sometimes or the soil gets bone dry and the pots light as a feather.
09/13/2021- Fed the Critical Purples with 1tsp. of F.F. Big Bloom and 2 tsp. of F.F. Tiger Bloom. pH 6.0
09/15/2021- Fed the ladies with 1tsp. of Cal-mag only.
09/18/2021- Same as previous entry.
Week 11 Sept. 19th-25th
I believe the Critical Purples are at their max height now and shouldn’t be getting any taller at this point. The purple one is still at 27 inches tall and the green one is a little over 16.5 inches tall. They both are looking great with fat, thick colas all around. I purchased one of those microscopic camera pens and was able to get some close pictures of the trichomes. Looking good, looks like I might have to chop them down sooner than I thought. What do you think? Looking forward to harvesting with the drying and curing process and seeing how much we were able to get on my very first run! Very exciting. 😁😍🙌
09/19/2021- Fed the C.P.s with 2tbs. of F.F. Big Bloom, 1.5 tsp. of F.F. Tiger Bloom, and 1tsp. Cal-mag.
09/23/2021- Fed the ladies with 1tsp. Cal-mag water.
Just having a read through, i think your accidental topping id what gave you such good colas. We're alwsys tolx nog to fuck eith autod too much, but i believe that dependd on yhe strain and plsnt itself. Very nice to see the technique, although accidental, pay off
@Mr_Death_himself, I'm glad you mentioned that cause that's the only thing I could think of that caused the end result. Both C.P.s got the same up bringing but that accidental topping was the difference. I know it depends on genetics and plants as well but yeah I think we're on to something. I might have to try Critical Purple again sometime and do an experiment and see if I can get these results again.
