I am going to be growing 8 Dark Phoenix plants this time in a Seahawk 1.45x0.8x2m tent using dry amendments. I would like to thank Green House Seeds for sponsoring parts of this grow by sending me 10 seeds of the Dark Phoenix strain and also dry amendments nutrients.
I soaked the seeds in tap water for about 20 hours before planting the seeds into peat pellets and placing in the grow tent with a humidifier set to 75% at a temperature of 26°C. Within 2 days almost all of the seedlings had fully germinated. On day 5 I transplanted the seedlings into 20L pots filled with coco and perlite.
This will be my first time growing photoperiod plants and also using dry amendments. I am really excited about the grow and hopefully it goes relatively smoothly.
The plants have shown some good growth this week and have responded well to their first feeding. I fed the plants grow powder from Green House Feeding mixed with water pH'd to 6. The plants have been suffering from heat stress as I haven't yet purchased an exhaust fan and carbon filter for the grow, the two smaller fans that I purchased just simply aren't powerful enough to circulate airflow within the tent. Another problem has been the lights that I have been using are not dimmable and thus will be at max power for the whole grow, so I have had to raise the lights as high as they would go in my tent as the plants started to bend to avoid the light.
I will probably start low stress training next week or at the start of week 3 depending on how the plants develop.
There has been some explosive growth this week. These plants have really started to bulk up in size and seem to be responding very well with their nutrients. I have turned off the heater in my room and the plants have shown to start to recover from the heat stress. I will begin training the plants next week and will be performing some low stress training as well as topping the plants which will be my first attempt. There does appear to be some early signs of magnesium deficiency in the plants so I will be closely monitoring the plants and will make adjustments to the pH and EC of the nutrient solution.
There has been some good growth on the plants this week. However the plants appear to have been suffering from nutrient toxicity due to me always adding nutrients to every watering. While the effects of the toxicity seems to have stopped progressing I will be closely monitoring the plants. I have flushed the medium of the plants so hopefully the pH returns to normal.
I have performed some low stress training on the plants this week by tying down the stems to the pot using pipe cleaners. The plants appear to still be suffering from nutrient problems and possibly heat stress from the lack of air circulation when the tent is closed. Due to this I haven't done any topping or major defoliation to the plants to avoid over stressing the plants. I plan on taking the carbon filter and exhaust fans from other tent which is currently growing Northern Lights Autos and placing it in this tent for the grow. That grow will be finished in about 2 weeks and once it has been harvested I will move all the equipment to this grow. I will probably veg my plants for quite a while longer until I see the health of the plants vastly improve before I consider transitioning them into flower. I plan at some point purchasing a pH soil tester as I believe that this grow has been affected by the pH of the medium being incorrectly set.
I will plan to keep you updated on the plants health and growth of the coming weeks. Happy growing!!
This week has seen some really good growth from the plants, however the plants have been suffering from from nutrient deficiencies due to the substrates pH being off. I posted a question on the question forums as I was unsure why the plants were suffering from nutrient problems and thankfully Roberts notified me that the substrate pH could have been incorrect which would mean that the plants would not be up-taking their feed. So I proceeded to water the plants at a pH of 6.5 twice before feeding the plants nutrients again. I will be monitoring the plants over the coming days to determine whether they are still suffering from nutrient problems.
I have continued to do some low stress training on the plants by simply tying down the stems to the edge of the fabric pot. I am aiming to have as many different stems as possible before flipping the plants into flower.
I will probably veg these plants out for a few more weeks before I trigger the flower cycle as I want to ensure that the plants are no longer suffering from any more nutrient problems which may affect the bud development.
This week I have seen some great recovery from the plants after they suffered from nutrient deficiencies due to a pH lockout in the medium. After watering the plants with only water at a pH of 6.5 for a few days I began to reintroduce their nutrients with their waterings. The colour has begun to return to the plants as the new leaves have grown back green and the older leaves are no longer showing signs of worsening nutrient problems. I did a big defoliation this week in order to eliminate a lot of the dead foliage that had been affected by the nutrient problems, I also needed to defoliate to make it easy to water the plants.
This week I finished my Northern Lights Automatic grow so I was able to transfer my carbon filter and fans over to this tent after thoroughly cleaning them will alcohol wipes, this has greatly increased airflow within the tent. I am planning to probably keep these plants in the vegetative state for another week or two before transitioning these plants into flower in order for them to grow a little bigger and recover from their nutrient issues.
The plants seems to have almost outgrown their pots and may soon have problems with being rebound which may result in me having to buy slightly larger pots. Hopefully I can continue the rest of the grow in their current pots but I will monitor the plants growth and decide what to do over the coming weeks.
Yeah ladies are looking better 👍🏾 I'm also thinking of Vegging mine for an extra week! This run hasn't been as smooth for me either, tiny issues here n there but not too bad 👍🏾🌱💚
@@Pingu, damn I wish I would have read this comment 1hour earlier, literally just switched the lights off for 24hrs 😅 I do have a nice height to them, they are still looking healthy so I thought why not! About to update now 👍🏾
@Santica_Garden, yeah I think its best to let the plants recover a bit before transitioning into flower. Your plants are looking really healthy. Keep up the good work
Yeah Roberts gave you some good advice 👍🏾All I would advise is get rid of all the dying leaf's and the ones with the brown spot's and feed the ladies, they look hungry as you already know 😅. If you have hydrogen peroxide, when you next give them plain water, add abit of that to it! I've been having the opposite, fed my ladies abit too much 😅 all week they have just been getting plain PH water... They are still looking good! All I would advise is get rid of all the dying leaf's and the ones with the brown spot's, if you have hydrogen peroxide, when you next give them plain water, add abit of that to it! 👍🏾
@Santica_Garden, thanks man I will definitely have a look into giving hydrogen peroxide to the plants when I water them next. Your grow of the Dark Phoenix is looking phenomenal I can't wait to see how the harvest turns out!
bro great choice of new GHSC strains! Trainwreck paired with Jack is worth seeing!! I'm growing their CHEMICAL BRIDE! it's responding beautifully! check it out! thanks!
