Double Skywalkers

So here we go with Week 1 of my Skywalker grow. Day 3 Skywalker "A" popped the soil and has grown really well with some proper vigour, "B" however, has been much slower, but still about normal for an auto. I think it will be interesting to see how the vigorous growth of A progresses throughout the grow. I haven't been doing anything special in way of care, just watering them with plain water once a day or so with a tiny amount of water, about a shot glass full is all. Aside from that, this first week is really all about patience and hands off I find. Onwards we go, looking forward to seeing how A and B face off in a few weeks!

Welcome back! The skywalkers are doing... well.. they are doing, not sure I would say well but hey ho! Day 9 Skywalker "A" is doing okay, it fell over slightly so I topped up the soil and buried the stem in a little more soil and it's righting itself quickly. It's grown with real strength from the start and is a really healthy size for its age. Skywalker "B" on the other hand... what on earth is going on here!? This must be the famous Mephisto Genetics huh? It's a complete runt and mutant, but I'm going to grow it out for a couple more weeks anyway and see how it goes. If it doesn't push past it, then I'll kill it off and plant something else. Time is ticking for "B"! As far as care goes, nothing special as you might expect, I did add .5ml/L of alg-a-mic to the water today, but otherwise, they have had nothing but small amounts of plain water so far, I'll introduce nutrients next week once they're around 14 days old. Day 13 I still don't know what I'll be doing with Skywalker B.. I don't think it will be a good plant, but I have some curiosity to see how it will grow out for now, so I'm going to keep it going a little while longer and see what happens I think.

Welcome back to Skywalker grow! Things are getting more fun this week and training begins! Day 15 I've started with Bio-Grow nutrients this week to start giving them a bit of N, going in low with only 1ml/L, so I'll have to keep an eye on how they respond to that. Also started training Skywalker A which is still growing really well. I'm just going to keep Skywalker B alive for now and see how it goes, it does seem to be getting more normal-looking leaves as it goes up, but it's very runty. Probably I'll replace it with my Hazenburg AM seed when that germinates. Day 18 Well, Skywalker B seems to have grown out of its weird mutations and leaves are relatively normal lookingnow. It's so far behind "A" though, so I don't know if I'll be keeping it still. Skywalker "A" is doing amazing though, taken to training really well and is spreading well.

Here we go moving into week four and pre-flowers are popping up! Day 23 Skywalker A is still going along really well, I've finished training here really now and I'm going to let it grow up from here. It's coming up really healthy and I think will stretch up nice and even across the whole canopy. Skywalker B is actually starting to look a little better, after a really slow start, it's stretching up nicely and actually looking healthy. It seems to have completely grown out of its weird mutant stage too. I haven't been able to train it half as much as Skywalker A, but that's okay. It will be an interesting grow to see how the differences show over the full life. Care-wise everything is easy. I've started to increase nutrients a tiny bit, but nothing special yet. I'll probably start on Bloom nutrients next week. Generally, the plants seem quite hungry actually and have taken up the nutrients without a hitch.

Welcome back to the skywalkers grow! This pair are really coming up happy now! The mutant runt is no longer a mutant, nor a runt at all! Day 34 Wow, these guys have sprung up and stretched really nicely this past week, Skywalker A even looks amazing now, after such a runted start I'm really impressed how far it's come along and you'd never guess it was a mutant runt at all. So glad I didn't pull it up and give up on it now! Care-wise, I'm switching from grow nutrients to bloom nutrients this week, introducing the bloom nutrient and I'll begin phasing out the grow feed week by week from here. I haven't had to do much in the way of defoliation yet, but I'll probably go in and pick off some of the lower leaves over the next week.

Welcome back to the Skywalkers, I think I'm in love with these plants! I still can't believe how well Skywalker B bounced back from its mutant start... Day 40 Happy days here! The buds have all formed up and started to fatten and everything is looking super healthy. I absolutely love both of these plants, their structure is fantastic and they've grown so well, responding to training perfectly. I think so far, even though it is still early days, these are my favourite plants I've grown yet. If the home stretch is as good as the opening weeks, then these plants are going to kick some serious arse. I've cut grow nutrients right down to 1ml/l at this point, the plants are still deep green and could probably do with cutting it right out completely, but I don't like to make to many big leaps, so I'll cut it down to 1ml this week and cut it completely next week. At the same time, I've upped bloom nutrients to 3ml/l which I'll run until finish now.

Welcome back to the Skywalkers! Day 48 - I was a bit ill this week so unable to take care of my plants very much, basically just did a little bit of defoliation to get rid of a good deal of the excess foliage and watered them. They're looking good though, bud sites should be all formed up and not much change now until the end, I'd imagine they are just going to thicken up between now and harvest. As always seems to happen, they've gone a bit yellow and crispy, but nothing too wild. I'm looking forward to a good harvest in a few weeks!

Welcome back, the SKywalkers are getting themselves nice and ready for the home stretch! Day 53 Earlier this week I flushed these plants through with about 12L of water each because they were quickly going yellow and crispy. I've noticed this happens every grow of mine around the same time and I'm quite sure that it's due to a nutrient buildup in the soil leading to lockout. In order to counter this, I'm going to start doing a series of routine flushes in my future grows to see if that has any effect. It's too late for these girls obviously, but from my next grow I will try flushing as they transition from veg to bloom and then again mid-way through flower, so effectively around about week 4-5 and again about week 7-8. It will be interesting to see if that has any effect and if it does, I should be able to keep my plants looking much healthier right up until harvest, so that will be an interesting experiment. Anyway, back to the point. I gave these girls a flush earlier this week and then returned to regular feeding from my next watering. I also did a little defoliation, taking off the worst affected leaves that were dried up and crispy. Looking good now, the buds are getting sticky and smelly and are starting to swell up nicely. It was around this time my Strawberry Banana developed Botrytis so I have made sure to keep a fan on these girls as the weather has been a little damp again, so hopefully, that will keep the air nice and flowing and ensure I don't get any more rot. almost there with these, I think, maybe another 2 weeks. they're going to be quick! Welcome back to the home stretch of my Skywalker grow! I hope you are well! THIngs have been quiet in the grow, just waiting for the plants to wrap up. As an aside, I tried out the camera on my iPhone 13 pro today. It's nowhere near as good as my real camera but I liked the macro function. In future maybe I'll use my real camera for normal photos and throw in a macro here or there from the phone. Day 61 Skywalker B continues to thrive and outshine Skywalker A, both plants have some pretty bad yellowing and crispy leaves going on, I guess it's a pH lockout issue but it's too late in the grow to do anything now and the plants are doing okay in terms of bud. I guess they're wrapping themselves up, but I'd like to see a little more weight put onto the buds before harvest so I think I'll start considering harvest in another week minimum. I'm winding down nutrients now, still feeding quite a bit of bloom, but no more grow at all and bringing down the alg-a-mic. I'll probably bring bloom nutes down to 1ml/L next week and then start monitoring trichomes. I really look forward to cutting these girls down and it's definitely hard to be patient right now, but when I checked the trichomes earlier today they were still majorly clear or cloudy. Let's dig in and see these girls out til the end!

I harvested both the Skywalkers on Day 71 in the end, so just a shade over 10 weeks. I think they could have gone a bit longer, but a situation arose where I needed to get the job done and honestly, I would probably have harvested them that weekend anyway. The grow has been fantastic really, I loved these plants and they were no problems at all to run, so I'm looking forward to getting them dried and ready to smoke! Overall the buds are not as dense as I was expecting, but the smell is beautiful and they're covered in crystals. >> HARVEST AND TRIM << Really surprised by the weights, being so similar between the two plants! Despite Skywalker A growing a little taller eventually, both were more or less exactly the same, but both were pretty good and I'm very happy with the outcome. Trim for these was pretty easy, there wasn't too much in the way of large fan leaves to go, but there was quite a lot of tiny sugar leaves that were difficult to really trim off the bud, which makes the final trim look a bit leafy still. Overall though, really happy with the weights from the two plants and think they both did pretty well! Everything took a little over 7 days to dry, hung up on the stems in 18-21C temps and 45-50% humidity. >> DRY BUD REPORT << I was pretty surprised by the final weight is quite high! The wet weight had a lot of stems, so I was expecting to lose quite a lot, but bang on 108g or 4oz dry is pretty good all told! The bud feels a little airy and a bit leafy. The Mephisto strain guide says a lot about Skywalker buds being very dense, but both these came out not quite like that, maybe it was my lights, who knows. Overall though the buds are looking good, quite small but a lot of flowers, covered in crystals and it has a really lovely, almost fresh smell compared to a lot of weed I've grown in the past. Very floral and pleasant even. Probably my second favourite smelling weed ever, just behind Lemon Pie. >> EARLY SMOKE << A little bit harsh, as to be expected, but a great relaxing body stone already and feels a bit kush-y. Definitely an Indica dominant type of stone and I think this will make a fantastic late evening smoke once it's cured a little and had the edge taken off. >> FINAL THOUGHTS << Probably one of my all-time favourite grows, I'd love to grow this again. It was fun watching Skywalker B bounce back from its dodgy, mutated start and come up to a really lovely looking plant with actually a little extra weight over A in the end. The outcome was decent. Probably the only thing I think sucked a little was the leaf discolouration towards the end, though I think that could be easily solved with a couple of flushes throughout the grow, about week 5 and again in say week 7 or 8, just to clear out some of that buildup in the soil and prevent pH issues.
