====== PURPLE QUEST / CANDIDATE #7 ======
After the Blackberry (Fastbuds), the Blueberry Auto (Pevseeds), the Purple Kush auto (Buddha Seeds)
and the Legendary OG Punch & Sherbet Queen (Royal Queen Seeds)...
I'm introducing the #7 candidate for this Quest where I'm trying to find a specific terpene profile I smoked 2-3 times in my life.
Often described as the "Purple taste", I found it in flowers labelled as "Purple Kush", "Sunset Sherbet" and "Purple Diesel".
But since I'm growing, every attempt to find that Purple taste were fails.
I believe this terpene profile might be associated to Mendo Purps strains.
That's exactly what this new candidate is about: focusing the Mendo Purps traits from American purple strains.
I'm verry excited about this one! Wanted to try it for so long!
Planted seeds directly in soil. saw them sprouting 48h later.
100% success rate... Like always.... Still wondering why people mess with other counterintuitive methods...
I'm going to love thoses babies! Good care, main-lining, LST (but not too much!), still going to use Biobizz product line,
and and and...... A BRAND NEW LIGHT!!!!!
====== SETUP ======
LIGHT: New LED growing light (veg/flowering) : ViparSpectra®️ XS2000
I will be testing this new light during all the plant life!
It's taking less power input, but provide a better light spread with Samsung LM301B LEDs (way more efficient!).
So this is way enough to make me enthusiast about it. Better LEDS, better spread, cost less. PERFECT.
For now, I can already say that it's also releasing less heat than my previous light. I believe the driver is also more efficient.
FEEDING: I will feed the plant with Biobizz product line again. I'm having better and better results, plants after plants.
So there is still lot of room for improvements on my side, before thinking to replace it 😅
I had a look at another Canna Nutrient brand, probably the biggest in US.
But I learned that this brand been market forbidden all over EU, because of... issues with it's content...
Soooo I'm fine with Biobizz for now 😄
POTS SIZES: I'm going to transfert the plants to 16L pots later on. And not 30L like with my 2 previous diaries.
I'm growing 4 plants there, so I need to keep them a little smaller than when I was growing 1 or 2.
PLANT'S HARVEST: I'm aiming harvest at week 14-15, instead of 18-19. Basically I would start flowering at week 6.
I'm trying to shorter my grow sessions to be abble to review more strains until I find THE one.
Well, finally guys, please wish me good luck.
I already tried 6 others strains, this one NEED to be the one :)
It could be my christmas gift! Please Purple come to me!
UPDATE DAY 7 : Damn I hate those Pots! Already came to that conclusion before.
Not fabric pots, which is totally a good choice. But the size of the 2.3L Root Pouch pot is too high and not wide enough.
It make watering more difficult. The first half of the pot seems to dry verry too quickly. I should cut them, get them shorter to be honnest.
Beside that: Today should be rainy!!! I'm going to water plants with rain today!
Week 1 went off perfectly, purples babies reaching WEEK 2!
😍 PRESENTATION OF THE LADIES 😍
------------------------------------------
The four plants are the same genetic. But they already have a different look, and I would introduce them to you :)
1) The Ugly - She have terrible first leaves. But she isn't late compared to the other. So I still believe in my Ugly!
2) The fatties - 2 of them grew wide leaves. It's just about leaves shape for now.
3) The solar panel - This one grew less wide but longer leaves.
Regarding the Ugly, I must say that for the 4 seeds, I had to manually remove the shell when they sprouted.
They all had their shell on after sprouting, and I don't like that. Probably a bit old seeds?
For now, they share the same needs, and seems all happy.
But this might change. I may even not be abble to recognize them, except if I cheat on them by putting labels on their pots ^^
💧 WATERING 💧
------------------
Luckily, the weather is offering some rains, and I been abble to put the ladies out under the rain during day 7 and 8.
Not that long, they still got watered on Day 8, some hours after the rain. With feeding for the first time!
🍗 FEEDING 🍗
------------------
First feeding. Used Fish-mix at 0.8ml/L. I plan to have a second watering in the week, but without nutrients. That's why I written 0.4ml/L in diary settings.
If you know me, you also know that I like Fish-mix, but that I'm also effraid of it ^^ As foliar later during veg, it's an awesome products, easy to see that plants love it.
But it seems verry powerfull, and need to be used carefully when given to plant. My rule is to limit to 50% of recommended dose. For now.
Anyway, Fishmix right after a rain must turn on every form of life in soil I believe 😀 Even life coming from rain.
🏡 GROWING CONDITIONS 🏡
-----------------------------------
Starting an indoor session on the end of summer seems a good choice for me:
- Some rains that provide me better water
- I can put the ladies out if verry sunny, to save electricity/money
- Perfect temps in the grow room. My house is always windows open. The growroom lightup in the end of the afternoon, when the day get cooler
- Plants will flowering indoor during winter. I need heat during winter, so thanks grow room :D And cold air mean verry dry air! So reaching low humidity on the end of flowering will be verry easy!
Pests : Nothing to report for now. I'm expecting a visit of my good old friends the thrips in 2-3 weeks 😎
Grow tent & Light (XS2000 ViparSpectra) : Something I notice just now: I'm abble to close the grow tent without air-extraction. I never been abble to do that in the past.
This light is waaaay more efficient, and produce way less heat, because I couldn't keep tent close with my previous Mars Hydro TSW2000.
Don't be effraid, I still renew the air in tent multiple times a day ;)
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading guys :) Thanks for crossing your fingers last week, as you can see.... it worked!
PS : Improved my skill with my new camera. But except more and more better ones as I practice ^^
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Update Day 13: Plants watered with PH 6.2 water. Look at that Hugly... She really have a problem 😅 I'll try my best with her 🙌
Last week (veg 2nd week), I was calling them my "babies"...
Let's make it short: this doesn't fit anymore. They scare me. They might turn into monsters.
😢 3TH WEEK: MOST HEART-BREAKING WEEK OF VEG PERIOD 😢
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
You probably got spoiled by my diary pictures: Yes, I performed topping this week!
It's the first time I have to perform it on 4 plants. Usually only one or two.... This was lot of stress for me too 😅
For the first time ever, I felt the need of cleaning scissors with alchocol before performing the topping.
Always been too lazy for it. But not this time. I was actually Needing to do it that way!
Topped the 4 ladies above node 3, right before their night. They all grew node 5, I could have topped before,
but the "Ugly" is a bit slower and I decided to wait her for some days.
😈 FUTUR MONSTERS? 😈
------------------------------
Don't think I'm teasing here... But they are looking surprisly big for this stage.
The colas are fattening days after days, the leaves are already big, dark green, praying most of the time, with branches already 1-2cm at every nodes... Day 20 people!
They are like plants during week 4, comparing to my previous diary. The improvement in this grow is huge.
The crazy part of this is that I've been using Used soil from previous grow (only fresh soil in the bottom of the pot).
But I must say I've been calibrating PH since begining, and trying to reach good temps and humidity...
And I'm also using a brand new light. Maybe my ViparSpectra is already showing some "better results" ?
🎃THE UGLY HEALING ?🎃
------------------------------
One of my ladies is..... Let's say... Different. Different, but not Ugly anymore. She seems to get more regular leaves,
growth after growth. She have deformations, but it's like the distortion % is reducing at each node.
So... She may make it to the end. But she's already a bit late. She will grow small that's for sure.
⏲️ PLANNING FOR THE NEXT WEEKS ⏲️
----------------------------------------------
I will transfert plants to bigger (and final) pot in the next days. Already 3 weeks in thoses tiny shoes, time for a step-up.
From 2.3L to 16L :) My plans is to start flowering week 6. I wonder if I'll be abble to perform Nebula's mainlining... Might be too short.
But the more important for me is to start flowering week 6, so If I haven't performed the second toping yet... It will be an unfinished mainlining, with less apex.
With Nebula's mainlining method, you are supposed to Top the plant at node 3, and top both new growth at node 3 again.
I'm thinking to this just right now... I'm not sure what I'll do :/ What do you guys think about performing only one topping, instead of 2 topping for mainlining?
🏡 GROWING CONDITIONS 🏡
-----------------------------------
Just a quick update... It's just so perfect 😄 The weather is a bit less hot days after days.... It's just perfect, reaching the perfect conditions is so simple.
A wet t-shirt for more humidity, opening doors and windows at the right time, and I reach the perfect spot!
I got an additionnal fan, not woking at the moment. Too powerfull for now, but ready to do his job. I know my plants needed more winds during last grow.
And no bugs for now, no thrips, no flies....
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Conclusion: It's way too easy, too promising.... To not be the one :)
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Week 4: Last week before transplant to bigger pot.
What could go wrong?
😢 FIRST MISTAKE OF THIS GROW SESSION 😢
----------------------------------------------------
I haven't travel since a long time. But I had to leave house for 4 days.
Unfortunately, I badly managed the watering before leaving house, and plants got thirsty for probably 24-48h.
Soil dried way faster than usually. There is multiple reasons for this. The most obvious is that plants are growing, and needing more and more water days after days.
BUT, the biggest $variable was myslelf, not being home. My only presence at home prevent the soil from drying to fast.
That sound weird, right :) ? Well. It's simple ^^ I'm opening windows all day long, I'm opening growing tent to check plants multiple time a day.... I'm letting fresh air coming in the house!!!
When I came back from my little trip, was something like 28°C in the grow tent. Too hot, and way higher than my usual values. So water vanished faster.
I never realized how much I was regulating temp without being aware of.
Impact on the plant: I believe it slowed them for 3 days. Lowest leaves yellowed. But they are useless now anyway, they'll get defoliated next week.
But they fully recovered and looking great again, after beeing droppy for some days ;)
🌳 TRANSPLANT FROM 2.3L TO 16L POT 🌳
-------------------------------------------------
Once my plants fully recovered from thoses dry days, I managed to perform transplant to bigger pots.
In my last grow sessions, I was using 25L pots. But this time, I decided to have a shorter veg period, and needed more room, so I could grow more plants at the same time.
Because the main goal of that grow session is to end my PURPLE QUEST! So, I need to test as much pheno I can. Productivity isn't the goal here.
Allright. So smaller pots, but still decents for an indoor grow, especially since I'll start flowering arround week 7 or 8!
The shoes should fit perfectly until the end of the grow :)
I waited that soil got partially dried, so it stay as one block when you remove the plant from the old pot.
That is the theory, because It wasn't that easy that time. As expectable with thoses damn 2.3L pots.
As mentionned last week, they are verry deep, their shape is a weird design choice in my opinion, because it will make watering way harder.
And transplant too ! Deeper, mean more roots contact with the fabric of the pots... Plants were verry well attached to the fabric, and removing them was really not easy.
So i tried to be as smooth as possible... Probably took me 1H to transplant thoses 4 pots 🤣
My method is simple. You fill your new pot with soil, but with previous pot placed in it, so you create the "hole" for the plant and it's root&dirt block.
Then, I "water spray my hole", I do the same to the plant and it's roots, and I place it in the new pot! Some work with the soil to place the plant correctly, and you are done.
Water spraying top of the soil, and true watering 30 minutes later. Just ph balanced water without nutrients. It will come next week.
🤓 SOIL: CHANGED MY PLANS ON THE LAST MINUTE 🤓
---------------------------------------------------------------
I had brand new and fresh Biobizz - Allmix.
A nice 50L bag, ready to be used.
But once again, I been trapped by my feelings, and felt bad using new soil, when I have used soil, waiting there...
It's just.... Using new soil again and again... Feels like a consumer society behavior....
I already talked about that. Not gonna go further.
So used soil (biobizz - allmix), from my previous grow session (Legendary OG Punch from RQS).
The soil been flushed with arround 50L of tape water (for 25L of soil), and let outdoor, in pot, for... 4 months I believe.
So it also been flushed by rain, and dried, and got wet again.
I could have added some compost to it. But It was not ready when I needed it.
But I'm confident... My current grow is a shorter one. And first goal is to find a pheno, not to make the biggest nugs ^^
🎃 SHORT UPDATE ABOUT THE UGLY 🎃
---------------------------------------------
She is growing verry wildly. And I think I can describe her problem like a "left-handed-only" situation.
It's like she absolutely want to turn LEFT :D so left leave/node will grow and turn left, when right leave/node will grow verry verry verry verry slowly.
Let's call this the "Nemo disease" 😃
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading people. Hopefully I'll perform the second and last topping last week. See yaa <3
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Week 5: 7 days after transplanting plants to 16L pots and the second topping,
everything seems to be fine. A potential PH issue, but I believe it's underwatering!
✂️ TIME FOR SECOND TOPPING ✂️
----------------------------------------
First topping (above node 3) been performed during week 3.
I'm trying to start flowering earlier than with my previous grow: hopefully at week 8 instead of week 10.
So I'm happy because I been abble to perform the second topping this week, one week of advance compared to my previous grow.
Each plants grow 2 branches at node 3, after the first topping. Those new branches been topped again above node 3.
Node 2 of thoses branches been defoliated, and I removed oldest and useless leaves. I could have topped them way earlier in my opinion, since they had grow 6 nodes!
🔧 FINALLY PERFORMED LST 🔧
------------------------------------
I wanted to start LST after plants transplants to the 16L pot. Because I'm using sting to attach every branchs,
Performing it on 4 plants take some time, and doing it once to redo It completly 1/2 weeks later was... NO 😆
But the plants got strong colas quickly, I had to be verry careful. I broke branches in the past, I know how stressfull It can be,
and it would totally break my "quick" grow expectations, forcing me to delay flowering begining.
So first thing: Get the plant thirsty. They are way easier to bend when plant's tissues aren't saturated with water.
Then, I bend the branches at multiple spots, but always keeping the base of the branch in position.
The bending pressure shouldn't applied to the base of your branch, never! Work your branch before applying the tension.
Everything went well. No damage, no stress, just happy plants :) Some hours later every leaves were facing the light again 😊
⚠️ POTENTIAL ISSUE: PH/UNDERWATERING ⚠️
-----------------------------------------------------
Oldest leaves started to yellow from the side, and new leaves were way lighter.
This really look like a deficiency, but there is no way the soil can't provide enough nutrients.
It's reused soil, but it spent months outdoor. And it's first reuse!
I haven't watered the plant during ALL the week. Wanted to make sure the soil was clean of any pest, and I needed the plants to get thirsty to perform LST!
I think I waited too long before watering again after transplant. I think it's not a PH issue, but a watering issue.
The plants still look healthy, no worries. But I must make sure to fix this as soon as possible.
(at the moment I'm writing this, week 6, I have the feeling the yellowing process stopped after watering the plants again).
I will check PH of the water drained from the pots at next watering to make sure it's not a PH issue.
💜 WAY TOO SOON, BUT CAN I RECOGNIZE HER? 💜
-----------------------------------------------------------
The plants are already smelling. But... it's smell just cannabis, it's just cannabis sweat juice in the air 😊
So for now, I don't smell anything close to what I'm expecting from them. Flowering will start in 3 weeks or so...
I can't wait to smell my "purple" again. The moment my noze will identify the first molecule of her delicious perfum will make my day. Maybe my year. 😍
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading 😊 See you next week!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Sorry people, I'm a bit late for this new weeek!
Nothing truely important to report at this stage. But the plants have some surprises ^^
🔧 PLANTS MAINTENANCE 🔧
The applied LST is doing great, every nodes are exposed to light.
Since I'm making sliding knot, It make LST adjustements way easier. I Mean, when you use strings like me 😁
Defoliation : I'm removing only leaves that hide light to any other branch. I like to go easy with defoliation ^^
Taking care of the Ugly isn't easy. It's like trying to fit a square in a circle. She isn't reacting normally... I'm really frustrated that I decided to continue main-lining on her.
I should have let her go wild. I'm sorry my lovely ugly 😥😘
⚠️ POTENTIAL ISSUE: PH/UNDERWATERING, SOLVED?⚠️
At week 5, I was worried plants may be suffering from nutrients deficiency.
It's happening only with 2 of the 4 plants.
I was thinking to 2 scenarios : PH issue / Watering issue.
PH was fine. I've been abble to test water under the pot at last watering.
So only two options remaining. A real nutrient deficiency, or just the effects of underwatering from previous weeks.
So I decided to increase the feeding with fishmix during week 6 & 7, just for the plants with the issue.
But still at recommended dose. 2ML is actually advised for ligh-mix. I'm using a USED all-mix. This make sense!
I feel like leaves are getting less "light green" witch is a good sign.
🎁 SOME SURPRISES YOU SAY? 🎁
Pistils! They haven't showed for the 4 ladies, But they are noticable on some of them :)
This mean I'm getting close to the flowering period :)
This is perfect, wanted Week 8 to be the last VEG week :)
🌸 MY PLANS REGARDING FLOWERING 🌸
Since The plants are ultra excited to follow my plans and start flowering,
I'll switch to 12/12 light schedule at the end of week 8, as originally planned!
This mean harvest before Christmas, and that's perfect 💜💜
Last year, I was stocked to harvest for New year, but had to wait couple of weeks, what a disappointment 🤣
Thanks for reading!
Week 8, finally! This mean the end of veg, time to trigger flowering :)
⚠️ POTENTIAL ISSUE: PH/UNDERWATERING/FEEDING ⚠️
----------------------------------------------------------------
I'm happy to say that this problem is now solved.
My PH was correct, and I was using a used soil: I had to provide more nutrients to the plants.
So I decided to increase Fish-mix dosage. 2ML instead of 1ML. I'm basically applying the doses recommandations for Light-mix.
This make sense, since it's a reused soil. It worked well! Leaves stopped to turn yellow, and started to get darker.
💡 MOVING PLANTS TO REDUCE DIRECT LIGHT EXPOSURE 💡
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I noticed that the 2 plants that suffered from deficiencies get tired faster than the two other plants.
Their leaves start to drop before the light turn off. This mean they get too much light.
So to help them, I have off-centered my ViparSpectra XS2000 to a side of the tent, and reorganized plants in the tent.
I didn't changed light output, because the 2 others plants are in perfect condition and they need as much light as possible :)
The 2 weaker but recovering plants are not right under the light anymore. They still receive light since they are in the tent, but... less direct exposition ^^
They aren't dropping before the end of the day, PERFECT!
⌚ SWITCHING TO 12/12 LIGHT SCHEDULE ⌚
---------------------------------------------------
My main goal, with this diary, is to end my #PurpleQuest.
That's why I decided to have a shorter veg period, and to grow 4 smaller plants instead of 2 bigger ones.
I'll know if I found THE one quicker, and with more confidence since I'm growing 4 plants.
Growing 2 plants, I could miss one pheno... With 4 plants, I'm almost sure to not miss it if she's the one :)
So I switched lights schedule. From 18 hours of light / day, to 12 hours now.
I used to make the switch over multiple days, removing hours of lights days after days.
I have NO arguments for this. It's just that I liked to reproduce as much possible natural process.
I have no informations about effectiveness of this method. But since it may delay flowering, I'm not doing this anymore.
🔎 PLANTS INSPECTION 🔎
-------------------------------
Some leaves (4-5) been damaged by a caterpillar.
A verry small one, that was not eating quick, and making only littles holes luckily.
She been found and killed during the manipulation... She was so small!
Also found ONE thrip! FINALLY my good old friends!!! I was expecting you earlier!
The fact that I had some underwatering issues (week 4 I think) probably explain why I have less thrips than previously.
This isn't a source of stress for me at all. Thrips always been super easy to deal with.
Caterpillar can just damage your leaves, but it can't be out of control, like an infestation that can occur with Thrips. Just find them quick before they eat too much salad!
Thrips are slow damaging. BUT, they can quickly become a problem, because they reproduce verry quickly. And then...... Better not think about it.
So how I deal with thrips :
1) Increase airflow 2) let soil drying 3) Spray your plant with water time to time.
If I find too much of them: 1) water-spraying leave to make sure they are saturated with water. 2) Water+black soap spraying. 3) water praying to rinse leaves. 4) Biobizz - Leaf coat, that add a layer of protection on the leaves.
Some observation about the Ugly (the weird growing plant) :
She seems to grow less pistils compared to the 3 others plants. I have the feeling she's going to be verry bushy, with not that much bud sites.
Whatever, I'll let her do her life. Worst scenario: She'll be converted to hash, and I'll be verry happy with it :)
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading 😊 See you next week for the first week of flowering!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
As planned since day 1, flowering starting on week 9, after growing for 8 weeks.
The show is really starting now 🤩
🔮 EXPECTATIONS FOR THE FLOWERING PERIOD 🔮
----------------------------------------------------------
As some of you noticed, I'm keeping the name of this genetic a secret :)
Depending of the results, I'll break that secret at harvest!
What I can say for now:
- This strain have Mendocino parents. I'm still thinking that this is the origine of the taste I'm looking for.
Of course, other genetics may have the taste I'm looking for, but I believe that a well stabilized Mendocino with great selection work, should be the best candidate.
It was the goal of the breeder of this genetic. And I've decided to grow 4 plants, so I will not question again the potential of mendo.
I'm verry excited to meet my good old friend, the best taste I ever seen in cannabis. Something unique...
- The flowering should be short: arround 60 days. So I expect an harvest in the first half of December. So first joints arround Christmas, isn't it perfect :D
- Indica dominant. Of course. As always when you target taste :D She tend to grow medium size, with lot of lower branches. The applied main-lining will help to get nice buds on thoses ;)
I've noticed that the plants were already showing lot of pistils on week 8, before changing the light schedule.
Two potentials explainations : I should have transplanted later, because roots maybe reached bottom of the pot. This is known to act on flowering triggering.
The second alternative explaination may be that this strain is simply faster than the previous regular strains I've grown.
So, note to myself: I must try to start flowering at week 8 next time (If she's the strain I'm looking for, I may grow it again and again and again ^^)
4 plants, 16L pots.... I think I may get like 300g. But to be honnest, I don't really care. I WANT THE TASTE!
🛠️ FEEDING & PH ADJUSTMENT 🛠️
---------------------------------------
The feeding have changed. The quantity of nutrients added to the water is impacting a lot the final PH.
But I'm not checking PH at each time. I'm doing it ONE time, when the feeding recipe change. I use PH-down from Biobizz until I get the perfect PH. And then I keep adding the same amount of PH-down at each feeding.
I'm using tape water, and the PH isn't really changing (0.2 variation maximum on the last 5 years. I got those data by checking water analysis done by authorities).
I decided to recalibrate my PH pen, to be sure I was not going to do mistakes! And I double checked with PH paper!
On the end, I'm adding 5 drops of ph-down in 1.25L. I'll have to redo this again at 3th week of flowering since I'll increase nutrients dosages.
I'm still following Biobizz recommandations for Light-mix. Even If I'm using all-mix. (Because this soil already been used with previous grow)
🔎 PLANTS OBSERVATIONS & UPKEEP 🔎
----------------------------------------------
Update about "The Ugly" : Well people, I belive she is going to be a nice plant :D She's showing a decent amount of budsites, and she's verry vigorous.
She have grown A LOT of leaves, way more than the 3 others plants. So I had to perform an intensive defoliation to let light get through it.
I've cut some branches too, because they were malformed: ugly leaves, twisted, facing unlogical directions, and showing almost no pistils.
She's definitly the good news of the week 💜
I performed defoliation on every plants this week. This is verry important at this stage, since the plants are stretching.
I ***BELIEVE*** that a node that don't get enough light at this stage, will not provide good results later on. I really think that defoliation at this stage is a key to nice harvest.
I'll not perform that much defoliation after that, since most apex and branches will have grow and reached light :)
No distinctive smell for now. It's the regular smell of cannabis plant that my nose recognize.
It's just the smell of the plant sweeting, buds sites doesn't smell anything at this stage, and that's normal.
🦋 BUGS!??? 🦋
------------------
I found one caterpillar on the Ugly. The same kind than the one I found during week 4 or 5.
They were probably brother/sister. This one was longer, more mature.
Luckilly it's a really small one, that doesn't eat that much. It did some holes on lower leaves, that got defoliated anyway.
It damaged like 4-5 leaves, eating like 1% of each... Plants didn't noticed it I'm sure :D
I did some research, and I believe it come from moths, the kind I saw in grow room during the firsts weeks of the grow.
Only one plant been eated, and the damage are so small that I'm not worried. And there is no moths since weeks, simply because the weather is really cold and I don't keep every windows open anymore :)
By the way, I haven't seen thrips during my last check... .I'm sad 😥 Was too easy 😥 R.I.P Thrips.
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading 😊 Please tell me what you think about the pictures :)
I'm trying to show as much details as I can, but maybe you guys
will have good recommandations :) Bye, see you next week!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
EDIT Day +1 : I checked weather for the upcoming days. There will be 7 days of bad weather with rain. Air humidity is going to be 70-90% for like a week starting from tomorrow.
SO... I'm opening every windows NOW since outside air is at 30-40% air humidity. I'm stocking as much as dry air I can, to avoid humidity raise in the grow room in the next days :)
The waiting becoming a pain, you probably know that feeling :)
But the harvest will be next month, the celecbration is soon, and the answer to the ultimate question will be answered: Is she the one?
---- EDIT -----
BECAUSE OF A BUG WITH EMOJI, THE CONTENT OF THIS WEEK BEEN LOST :(
BUG REPORTED TO GROWDIARIES TEAMS.
My last week update been lost because of a Growdiaries bug (emotes).
So this week will be a resume of 2 weeks. Pretty sure I'll forget some details.
🛠️ FEEDING ADJUSTMENT 🛠️
----------------------------------
During the second week of flowering, I fixed a calcium deficiency by adding Cal/Mag,
by providing a small amount of Cal/Mag, in the form of seaweed & coccolite Bio lime.
At this stage, only 2 plants out of 4 were concerned. In a couple of days, I saw the benefical effect of it: The two plant reacted super well and the leaf yellowing process been stopped.
They also looked to get dense faster than the 2 others plants. So I decided to provide this source of cal/mag to the two remaining plants.
So after all, it seems that my soil wasn't rich enough. That make sense, since it's a reused soil. I tried to improve the soil quality by adding compost in it, but it was definitly not enough.
Luckily I had this cal/mag solution available. I'm verry amazed by how the plant reacted so quick to it. Leaves not too damaged started to get a better color, buds were fattening faster, and new leaves looks verry healthy!
⚠️ LITTLE LST MISTAKE LEADS TO A BRANCH PARTIALLY SPLITTED ⚠️
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
In my previous grow, I've experienced the break of a branch, because of an excess of tension with my LST, performed during flowering.
Plants branches get harder and less flexible during flowering. By applying too much LST at this stage, it's easy to break something.
So my own rule is to never touch my LST setup when flowering started.
BUT now, I'm facing a new case 😁 One branch of one of my four ladies, splitted because it had not enough tensions 😅
Basically, one side of the plant is kept in place by applying tension on main branch, plus the two sides branches.
Without noticing it, I lost tension on the main branch. So all the tension from the two sides branches forced the central branch to split...
To fix it, I applied tension back on the main branch, and made a node with a string on it, to prevent it to splitt more.
This was more than 10 days ago, this doesn't slowed the plant, and I can't see any difference between the two sides of the plant.
My new own rule regarding LST will be: Don't touch LST when flowering have started, but make sure it stay in place.
💜 COULD I ANSWER TO THE ULTIMATE QUESTION: IS SHE THE ONE? 💜
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have one goal since I started to grow, back in 2020: Find a specific taste, that I call the "Purple taste".
Long time ago, I met this specific taste 2-3 times in multiple countries.
So here we are... This genetic is my 7th attempt.
I'm not sure guys. I don't want to draw hasty conclusions...
She have a strong fruity/sweet smell. It make me think to some fresh applejuice! I never had a plant with a so fruity smell.
So it's going to be an amazing smoke, that's for sure. BUT, as some of you may know what it means: she's probably not the right one.
The 4 plantshave the same strong apple-juice smell, so I believe this is a stable genetic, without "hidden jewels".
Maybe the smell and taste will evolve to something totally different. I never grown what I'm looking for, so I may be wrong.

Thanks for reading 😊 See you next week for the first week of flowering!

Hey Everyone :) Still some weeks to wait before the harvest day, but it's coming :)
The plants are looking so good, in multiple aspects! It's gonna be a tastefull Christmas 😇
🙌 GERMANY - THE GOOD NEWS OF THE DAY 🙌
---------------------------------------------------------
I really wanted to have a small words for our growmies from Germany, who may get Cannabis legalized in their country.
It's not done yet, but from what I've been reading, it really may happend after next elections. I'm so happy for you :)
This is also a verry good step for Legalization, as other EU country may follow Germany :) ONE DAMN GOOD NEWS!!! 💜
(if you got any more details about this, lets talk about it in comments ^^)
👹 "THE UGLY", ONE OF THE FOUR PLANTS 👹
----------------------------------------------------
I gave her this name because "the Ugly" is looking weird since the begining.
For thoses who don't readed first weeks of this diary, that is what I said about it during week 4 :
**
She is growing verry wildly. And I think I can describe her problem like a "left-handed-only" situation.
It's like she absolutely want to turn LEFT :D so left leave/node will grow and turn left, when right leave/node will grow verry verry verry verry slowly.
Let's call this the "Nemo disease" 😃"
**
So time to make a special update for that lady: She grown verry bushy, and made lot of leaves. She didn't had deficiencies.
But she seems to take longer to get fat. The trichomes production is verry low for now, when the 3 others plants got nice sugar leaves.
It's like she is... 2 weeks late I guess. Fun fact: The pot seems to be more heavy with this plant, I can't explain why lol.... But this leaded me to underwater it for like 5 days.
I basically decided to not water her one time because she was heavy, and I understood some days later that she was super thirsty!!!
So, she's maybe like an Iceberg: she grew way bigger under the sea-level ^^
🔎 PLANTS OBSERVATION 🔎
---------------------------------
The four plants are looking verrrry good. I had deficiencies during previous week, but It's now totally fixed, and the plants are fattening so quick days after days, I'm amazed.
When I was making the pictures for this week update, I found myself saying out loud: "You are so pretty my ladies!" 😂😂
The smell is also verry promising... It's getting more and more potent. Actually, I just set this week update with : "Smell: Strong".
Because even with my charcoal filter, I can smell her when I pass near the growing room ^^ The sweet and fruity smell (apple Juice like) isn't changing, but getting more potent!
There is still a lot of fresh new pistils, so buds should get bigger and bigger! At this point, I believe it's going to be a verry good harvest :)
Even if, on the end, it's not the strain I was hoping for, It may be the best strain I've grown so far, regarding how promising is the smell!
I'm looking for the "Best taste" A.K.A My "Purple taste", but a "delicious taste" is still a gift I'll be happy to receive :)
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading people. Thanks to everyone supporting me.
Some of your comments guys really gave me motivation for this new week.
This community is a Gift :) See ya next week <3
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Harvest is soon, probably 2-3 weeks left. Yes, this strain is quick to flower!
And guess what: I think it's time to finally tell you what strain it is!
✅ FINAL FEEDING ADJUSTMENT ✅
-----------------------------------------
I'm increasing global nutrients feeding, according to Biobizz Feeding recommendations.
Globally, from 3ml to 4ml for each products. Plants aren't growing that much new pistils this week. Still some, but it's noticably slowing down.
So, I may feed the plants only for 2 more weeks, and I'll start flushing right after that.
👹 "THE UGLY" IS SO LATE... .BUT STILL PROMISING 👹
-------------------------------------------------------------
Check-out pictures of this week, there is one picture of the Ugly.
You'll notice how late she is! She started to flower at the same time than the 3 others plants.
But she is just taking way more time than the others. She's not making my life easy, since I was planning to dry buds in the grow tent 🤣
So I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with her. Give her some more time in the grow room, and dry harvested plants in another room... Or harvest her verry early and make hash out of it.
She have a good buds production potential, but she smell absolutely nothing, compared to the 3 others plants. So I'm not sure yet what will happend to her.
🔎 PLANTS OBSERVATION 🔎
---------------------------------
I have the feeling that this genetic tends to "foxtail". It seems to be the same for the 3 plants (beside the Ugly, that I can't really describe yet).
It means that the buds grow a kind of tips, with new fresh pistils on top of the flowers. In the end, resulting in a longer cola, but less "thick".
I don't care about this, but I know It's an important parameter for lot of grower who wants good looking buds :)
They all have the same smell, which I describe as fresh apple juice. Growing at the same speed, same shape... It's a well stabilized strain.
🤷♀️ I'VE BEEN SAMPLING THOSES BUDS 🤷♀️
------------------------------------------------
That's not right... But yes, I did it :)
I'm out of weeds since months now, and... I wanted to get a little high 🤣
So I took one small buds from the bottom of one of the plants, and dried it on the hoven at lowest temp, with door open.
Not the best, but It does the trick. And that gave me the opportunity to taste it. Not in the best condition, but still I can say if she's the one, or not.
A fruity and sweety taste, as it smell, with no hidden "purple" taste. So I'm 90% sure it's not the one. 😔
Now, I can tell you what strain it is: Purple Urkle, from Pyramid seeds. This strain have mendocino parents, and is suppose to focus on the taste.
So either this strain is a lie regarding genetics, either way the "mendocino" traits aren't what I'm looking for at all.
I think it's just not what Im looking for, since it's not the first time I go that way, focusing on "mendocino purps".
BUT I already know what I'm going to try next :) I need to dig in the "Blueberry" familly now.
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading :) See ya next week <3
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
1-2 weeks left before harvest! I'll start the flush next week!
Nothing special to report during this week. The feeding didn't changed...
But I'm already preparing the flush for next week :)
👹 "THE UGLY" IS SO LATE... .BUT STILL PROMISING 👹
-------------------------------------------------------------
I talked about it last week... I'm verry curious about how the Ugly will end.
Out of 4 plants, she was the one that grew slowly, with weird shapes, weird leaves, weird branches.... Definitly some genetic issue for that one.
She started to flower at the same time than the 3 others plants, but preflowering been took way more time for her!
She is now fattening, when the others plants are finishing.... She is going to make my life harder, since I will have to make 2 drying/trimming sessions 😤
❄️ PREPARING THE FLUSH ❄️
---------------------------------
Preparing a flush!?! How!?!? Well, don't think I got a special crazy plan :D It's just that It's winter here, and... It's snowing!
So I'm simply harvesting some snow and I let it melt indoor. I'm going to use that fresh snow water for the flush starting next week :)
I'm growing my plants with tape water most of the time, providing them some rain/snow water is always a pleasure!
I hope I'll be abble to start my next grow with snow water too :)
🔎 PLANTS OBSERVATION 🔎
---------------------------------
I start to believe I got two differents plants terpene profil.
I already talked about that sweet apple-juice smell. Well, I believe that "The Ugly" plus one other plant, have a different terp profile.
I've been sampling a bit thoses last days, I feel like there is a touch of "SoMango / Jack herrer" on 2 of the 4 plants.
One of the 4 plants also developped way more purple on the buds.
I'll try to show you that next week: not easy to show it under the grow lights, I'll need to take new pictures out of growing room.
🙌 PLANS FOR MY NEXT DIARY 🙌
---------------------------------------
So, Purple Quest isn't over!!!
I'm already planning what will be my next grow.
I have 2 differents plans, and I'm not sure what plan I'll start with :)
Tell me what you think about it, I need your advices 👍
PLAN 1) Having a HUGE auto grow, with 20 plants in 1Gallon pots!! Including : Sweet Seeds (Red Strawberry banana auto, Red Poison auto) and FastBuds (Zkittlez auto, Purple Lemonade auto, Wedding cheesecake auto, BlueDream auto).
PLAN 2) Member OG from Ethos seeds. My first "Regular" seeds. I'll have to select female. I'll probably start with 4 seeds, and luckily keep 1 or 2 females.
I have a lot of hope about that Member OG regarding my Purple Quest.
But Im also excited about that crazy 20 plants project.
Both options are more challenging than everything done before.
I may start with that Plan 2 just for the guarantee outcome, since popping 4 Regular seeds could end with 4 males 😂
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading :) See ya next week <3
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Hey what's up people :)
I'm so excited!! I can only find white trichomes, I'll just wait some amber and it will be time to harvest!!!
⌚ LAST FEEDING, STARTING FLUSH ⌚
--------------------------------------------
Early this week, I watered for the last time with nutrients. And on the end of the week, I started to water with melted snow collected outdoor :)
This water been PH balanced by mixing it with some of tape water.
The only plant that will continue to be feeded is the Ugly, since she is verry late. I'm not even sure she will be harvested this year.
But despite the slow flowering, she seems to be really promising. She started to produce some terps and seems to have same terp profile than the others.
💜 2 OUT OF 4 PLANTS TURNED PURPLE 💜
-------------------------------------------------
It was already noticable like 2-3 weeks ago, but I didn't talked too much about it.
So this week, I tried to make some cool pictures of the two ladies that grew purple flowers so you can check this out :)
I'll make more better pictures next week, since I'll move the plants out of the grow room to harvest.
This color difference don't seems to change anything with the terps. It's just a color variation for now.
I forgot to talk about something 😅 2 weeks ago, I wanted to test to lower temps during the night.
I checked to search online what could do the trick. Didn't wanted to invest in AC for that. But I found some cheap vents where you place frozen water in it... And so It blow colder air.
This is verry cheap and using electricity for this is kind of... wasting electricity. BUT this made me think : "Damn, I can just place Ice front of my fans, it will do the trick!"
So I placed two bottle of water in the freezer, and every day, I was placing thoses 2 bootles in my grow room, right front of my biggest fan.
This was lowering temps only like 1°C with a closed tent in the dark. Not verry effective. the two plants that were closer of the fan and ICE are the two plants that turned purple.
Even if the global temp only lowered by 1°C after some hours, I do believe the air passing near the ice was probably a little more cold, and so the two first plants were getting that fresh air.
OR it's just totally random 😅
🤷♀️ THE UGLY WILL FINISH OUT OF THE GROW ROOM 🤷♀️
----------------------------------------------------------------
The grow room is the only place I can control temps and humidity, and have a 100% dark environement.
But the Ugly is going to need probably 2-3 more weeks compared to the 3 others plants.
The more important is correctly drying the harvest, so I'll have to move the Ugly.
I'm not sure yet how I'm going to manage that... I'll probably move the ugly to another room.
🙌 PLANS FOR MY NEXT DIARY 🙌
---------------------------------------
I asked you last week what should I grow.
I took my decision! I'll do my 20 plants diary!!!! 20 auto (mainly FastBuds & Sweet Seeds) in 1 gallon pots.
Why? Simply because the second option (Member OG from Ethos) is a Regular seeds and I can't be sure of the final outcome.
If I end with only one female, I may run out of weed again, and I would avoid that. PLUS I'm excited about having lot of differents tastes ready to smoke :)
So 2022 will start with a funny 20 plants grow (funny... FOR NOW 😆), and right after that, I'll grow that Member OG
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading :) See ya next week <3
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Hey everyone :)
Every story need it's end....
This grow been started in August. It's been 4 months now... Lot of expectations, lot of hope.... Some fun with "The Ugly"....
This diary is now almost over... 2021 too. So... EVERYONE (even you, who read me!), Happy new year, Happy new harvests, Happy new smokes 💜
FROM HARVEST, TO DRYING ROOM
----------------------------------------
5 days after my last update, I decided to harvest the plants.
They been flushed for something like 10 days, with 2 watering. The second watering was like 30 hours before harvest.
They started to smell verry strong, and after some checks at the trichomes, it appear I had a decent amount of amber to harvest!
I believe I harvested at the perfect time, on the "smelling peak" 😋
Only "the ugly" haven't been harvested yet. She will need at least 2 more weeks compared to her sisters. But she is definitly fattening well!
Drying plants in the tent, light & The Ugly moved outside of the tent.
I hanged the full plants, without removing leaves or branches, So I wasn't abble to measure "wet weight".
First 24 hours of drying: humidity at 60%, Temp: 18°C. After 24h : 50-55% humidity, Temp : 17°C - 18°C.
I would lower temps, but I just can't.
PURPLE QUEST... IS IT OVER?
--------------------------------
If you follow my diary since multiples week, you already know the answer.
No, this strain isn't what I'm looking. This 7th attempt is a failure regarding my Purple Quest, but It's a success for me who love good tasting weed more than everything else.
Buds are still drying. They will need like one more week and some trimming, before first smoke review.
But the smell is so far from what I'm looking for. I'm searching for something more floral.
I doubt this strong Sweet and fresh applejuice smell could turn into something close of my expected "Purple".
I'll update this diary with effect/taste description as soon as I can! It will probably need something like another week of drying.
I usually do a smoke review after the trimming, before the curing. And I update my review after 1 month curing.
TRIMING UPDATE : After 16 days of drying, I trimmed all the buds. I will update total weight soon. In jar, curring!
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Thanks for reading, during thoses 4 months! Thanks for all your feedbacks, and kind words that boosted my motivation :)
I'll start a new diary verry soon. I just need to get that tent emptied of thoses drying buds ^^
20 plants in 1gallon pots, 8 genetics (only autos !). It's gonna be CRAZY !!
Once again, Happy new year, and Happy smokes :)
See you soon <3
