Hey there growmigos! Oh how I’ve missed my fellow growers! I apologize for the extended time away from grow diaries, to say that I’ve had my hands full so far this 2022 is an understatement but I am back with another update!
I sit here now writing this, inside as I watch the snow just coming down having flashbacks from a few weeks ago which was a narrowly avoided disaster…. That was easily the most eventful edge of my seat moment this grow, let alone since last update. So let me back track.
It was a few weeks ago and everyone is expecting to get a fair amount of snow in our area. Knowing this, I made prior arrangements to bring my work home with me and was planning on a nice quiet next day as I did what I had to do from the comfort of my own home as I watched the snow come down…. It did NOT go like that….
First off, I woke up took my dog out and quickly realized that we had not gotten snow, we got like three or 4 inches of ice….
Over 30,000 people in my county alone had lost power and a town between me and my job had declared a state of emergency and no one was to be on the roads…. Well where I live, we aren’t necessarily first in line to get our power back on. unfortunately what I thought may have been a few hours without power I was quickly realizing would be a bit more of an issue…
At this point they had gone 24 hours without light or heat- so I decide to try and get a propane heater- I go to the store…. Nothing….. hey no problem, there’s another store I can check right across the street- I got there, nothing… 8 stores later…. Everything is closing, and I have to get back to my house to start a fire so the pipes don’t freeze… defeated, I make my way back to my house- when all of a sudden- the stars align and I finally hit a bit of luck, the power company was leaving my street and then I notice… I see lights, WE HAD POWER!!! I ran inside, turned on my electric heater and covered the tent in blankets. I then started a fire in the wood burning stove and crossed my fingers tightly that hoping everything would be okay
Now I’ve never ran into this before, 48 hours no power no heat it definitely got below freezing and I didn’t know how much damage was done I didn’t know how long I should wait until considering myself free and clear of any negative effects from that kind of situation- so I went back to business as normal and kind of waited and observed…
I have to say I think this time I just got super lucky and she still seems to be doing great! I would say the back to business as usual and observing portion would be the couple weeks following that incident fast forward to now here we are another snowstorm on our hands but this time it’s actually snow! (Excellent news) don’t get me wrong it’s enough to inconvenience any plans you had anywhere besides your house but this time around we have power you have heat and we have just a little bit more time until I can take her down.
Don’t get me wrong we still have some time but for example I took out the jewelers loop to take a look at those trichomes to see how we are doing- so far so good I’m noticing summer cloudy but I don’t even think it’s a 50-50 mix yet so I still have some time I’m just trying to keep a close eye from here on out because I want to make sure that I stop feeding her at the right time and I can flush out some of those nutrients before we take her down.
It’s funny, this isn’t my first rodeo so Some thing I noticed is that it appears that I have been taking those successful grows for granted thinking that I would just be all good but nope. This was a humbling situation to say the least and I was definitely put in my place by forces out of my control. And I’m glad it happened the way I did, no harm no foul but there was a lesson learned to take away from it so hopefully if it happens again I will be more prepared!
I am glad to be back and apologize again for my extended absence but I am excited for not only this update, but we are right around the corner and we see the light at the end of the tunnel it’s been a long time coming with this one so excited it’s probably an understatement. I hope you all have been doing excellent and have been growing and enjoying beautiful harvest from your gardens and I will catch you next time hopefully the same time definitely the same place, growers love my friends! 💚🤙🌱
