Switching to Photos!!!
Autos have been fun, but I also want to grow Photos. Someday, I'll add a second tent so I can have one tent for Autos & Veg and another for Flowering Photos. For now I'll be using my existing tent to finish off my current run of Autos (Dinafem Critical+ Auto & Fast Buds BlackBerry Auto) as well as veg out 4 new Photos. I have picked out two strains that have "Fast Flowering" characteristics and two strains that are High CBD with a 1:1 ratio CBD:THC.
I'm excited for this grow for multiple reasons. First, the "Fast Flowering" strains are somewhat of a test to see how fast they really are. I'd like to run a couple fast strains outdoors next summer. Living in New England I really need to harvest mid-late September outdoors. For those unfamiliar with "Fast Flowering" strains they are the first cross between Photoperiod and Autoflowering strains. The offspring do not get enough of the Ruderalis lineage from the autoflowering parent to flip to flowering on its own regardless of light cycle, but they get enough of the Ruderalis traits to finish flowering faster than the Photoperiod parent. Outdoors they should also switch to flower earlier than typical photoperiod strains. I picked Dinafem Quick Critical+ and Female Seeds Sour Critical for my Fast Flowering strains in this diary. I'm psyched to see how fast they are ready for harvest and which one is ready first.
Second, I love 1:1 CBD:THC strains. If you've never had a 1:1 strain you should definitely try it. Yes, the high is mellower - its not something to smoke when you wanna get super baked. But, its a great daytime or working high. Also, I've found 1:1 strains to be super flavorful. Adding in the CBD seems to really add something special (and delicious) to the buds. I'm super psyched to be growing Dr Bruce Banner and CBD Medi Kush. I had tried growing these strains a while back, but the entire crop got destroyed by spider mites. I remember the Dr Bruce Banner was super close to harvest before those little fuckers destroyed everything, She was a beautiful plant, I was so bummed out when I had to destroy her. I feel pretty confident in my IPM routines these days and hope to never see any spider mites (knock on wood).
I'll be growing all 4 girls in 3 gallon pots filled with Coast of Maine Stonington Blend soil. I did also add some SunGrow Organic Seed Starter in the middle of the pots roughly 3-4 inches wide and deep. This will be an all organic grow relying on the nutrients in the soil for the first month, then I'll start adding organic nutrients during flowering. I'll also be adding Recharge on a regular basis. All 4 seeds were scuffed lightly with sandpaper before planting directly in the soil.
Here's some details on the strains (in alphabetical order):
👉Dinafem Seeds - Quick Critical + (https://www.dinafem.org/en/quick-critical/):
"Speed, yield and taste within the same plant"
Quick Critical + is the quickest feminized strain of our catalogue. In less than 50 days, namely in some 42-49 days, the amazing nuggets of this Indica-dominant hybrid will be ready for harvest. But, besides fast, her yield and quality are well worthy of her mother: Critical +. Same scent, same resistance, same aroma and same effect; but at least a week quicker. That's where the main advantage of this new strain lies. At such speed, the yield is further exploited and everything is more likely to come out well. When growing outdoors, you'll save yourself a whole week of suffering thinking about the possibility of having your crop ruined by bad weather conditions or even stolen or seized. If growing indoors is your thing, you'll have time to do so more often than with her feminized version.
Quick Critical + is one of the easiest to grow genetics ever, producing top-quality buds in exchange for very little attention. If Critical + was synonymous with yield and quality, and Critical + 2.0 with resistance, this incredible creation is, besides all that, super-quick. But she’s not autoflowering. She’s simply a week or so faster than the original. So, if you love huge plants, this strain is meant for you. A plant that grows incredibly big during the veg. phase and delivers equally large buds during the flowering. This Quick version has two main advantages: lower risks outdoors and greater profitability indoors.
OUTDOORS:
- Lower climate-related risks: in the northern hemisphere, Quick Critical + is ready for harvest in September, sometimes at the beginning of this month (Mediterranean area), others by mid-September (north of Spain, south of France, north of Italy, the Balkans, Austria...) and in other cases at the end of the month (the rest of Europe). This is possible because this Quick version is a week or so faster and needs only 42-49 days to flower. So those of us who live in the south of Europe can stop worrying about the threat of rain and low temperatures from mid-September onwards because our plants’ buds will be ready for harvest by then. Non-Mediterranean European countries will still have to wait until the middle of September/beginning of October for their plants to be totally full of resin and aromas.
- Lower external risks: your plants being ready for harvest 14-7 days earlier implies:
1) A lower risk of becoming a victim of theft (we do know Critical + is extremely precious). Now, with this Quick version, you’ll save yourself a couple of weeks of unnecessary exposure.
2) A lower chance of being spotted. Whether you’re growing in your garden or on your balcony, your neighbors will have a week less to worry about the delicious lemony aroma that comes from your house.
INDOORS:
- Greater profitability: the Quick version is far quicker. Yes, but how quick? Well… 19.17 % quicker. This means that, should you decide to cultivate indoors keeping the lamps on all year long, with Critical + you’ll obtain 7.3 crops per year. With Quick Critical + everything goes much faster, and so 8.7 crops/year can be obtained with her. No more and no less than 1.4 extra crops per year. Pretty good, right?
👉Female Seeds - Critical Sour (https://www.femaleseeds.nl/shop/critical-sour/):
The Critical Sour can be considered the next generation of hybrids from Female Seeds. Our goal was to create a very early maturing outdoor strain. Depending on your region she can finish as early as the beginning of September! A big producing strain covered in trichomes. A Maroc x Grapefruit mother was crossed with an inbred Auto NL x Auto NL x Auto Critical father to speed up flowering. This strain develops specific features clearly inherited from the mum and the Auto Critical genes. She is easy to grow as she is a very hardy plant. She stays shorter than any of our other outdoor strains. One in thirty plants can autoflower.
The Critical Sour is an indica-dominant strain, compact, with a sturdy and flexible stem, with wide internodes ready to stretch when kicked into flower. The average plant's flower-to-leaf ratio is impressive, with much more flower than leaves. It has a vigorous production of thick, resinous and dense buds. The buds grow long, quite slender. The open bud structure allows good air circulation and helps prevent mold in the final stages.
She has a very nice aroma; fruity, earthy and spicy. Critical Sour is not too smelly so perfect for stealth growing. The gentle and delicate taste while inhaling reminds you of the fabled pineapple pheno of the Grapefruit. A spicy/earthy hint is added due to the Maroc and the Auto NL genes help develop a very exciting palette.
The high can be described as an almost instant body-high. It combines the strength and couch-locking effect of the NL and Critical with the more tender and subtle high of the Maroc and Grapefruit. The high is therefore a sudden happy and uplifting high that wraps the entire body with its pleasant feeling. She also provides good medical features since Auto NL is a natural pain reliever well known for helping against stress, anxiety, nausea or arthritis.
👉Original Sensible - Dr. Bruce Banner CBD (https://originalsensible.com/original-sensible-seeds-dr.-bruce-banner-cbd~20712):
Bruce Banner #3 is one of the biggest hitters in the world of cannabis strains whilst in contrast Carmen has very low levels of THC. But despite the low levels of THC, Carmen has a fantastic flavor profile and very high levels of CBD. By crossing these two marijuana varieties of contrasting cannabinoids we have created Dr. Bruce Banner CBD an equal 1:1 THC:CBD of around 10%.
Dr. Bruce Banner CBD is an important cannabis hybrid for medicinal purposes and these easy to grow feminized seeds are ready to harvest after 60 to 70 days of flowering. The effect is a strong balanced physical relaxant. Yields of 500g/m2 can be achieved of 1:1 THC:CBD sweet fruity mandarin buds with citric notes.
👉Spliff Seeds - CBD Medi Kush (https://www.spliffseeds.nl/product/cbd-medi-kush-female-cannabis-seeds/):
Hybrid. Blue Medi Kush x Amnesiac x CBD Afghan. Short, compact plant. Strong, sweet kush aroma and earthy taste. Possible CDB over 14%!
We set out to produce a hybrid strain rich in CBD, and we certainly succeeded. First we crossed our Blue Medi Kush x Amnesiac x CBD Afghan, we then selected the most reliable and stable version of a CBD Afghan to back-cross with. This was used as a basis for stabilizing her genetics over several generations, resulting in the CBD Medi Kush.
CBD Medi Kush has a very high CBD content (14%+). This hybrid strain flowers for 9-10 weeks and grows with a low, compact profile, it is great for SOG or SCROG grows in small rooms. Bred with medical users in mind, this is a popular strain for those who want to produce high quality, CBD rich oils and extracts.
The buds are bulky and hard and have a typical kush odor, the taste is very earthy. The high is very comfortable and pleasurable and is accompanied by a mellow body stone. This plant delivers a pain relieving dose of CBD, without the racing thoughts or anxiety that one can experience from high THC, low CBD strains. Great for treating inflammation, pain, stress, depression and insomnia.
October 12, 2021 update:
Dinafem Quick Critical popped in 4 days! Hoping to see the other 3 popping in the next day or two!!!
October 13, 2021 update:
Spliff Seeds CBD Medi Kush popped today (5 days). Hope the other two pop tomorrow 🙏
October 16. 2021
The Dinafem Quick Critical popped first on October 12th, then the CBD Medi Kush popped the next day. As of October 16th Critical Sour and Dr Bruce Banner have not popped. Seeing a few fungus gnats, but nothing to worry about. I sprayed the top of the soil with water to keep the top of the soil, and the seed, from drying out. I also dropped second seeds for Critical Sour and Dr Bruce Banner. Check in next week to see what happens next! 😎

Dinafem Quick Critical is looking great. Amazing growth this week!!! CBD Medi Kush is growing slowly and is a little twisted, it might not mean anything at this stage we'll see how she performs in the upcoming week. Critical Sour finally popped around 9 days after planting the original seed, I had planted a second seed when there was no seedling after 7 days. that new seed popped in 6 days and looked much healthier than the first seedling. I pulled the first Critical Sour seedling and will be growing out the second seedling only. Dr Bruce Banner has not popped either of the two seeds, its now 14 days since the first seed was planted and 14 days since the second seed was planted. I'm going to leave the pot in the tent for a few more days to see if a seedling appears, but if nothing happens soon I'll pull the pot out of the tent and just grow out the other three.
Cya next week!👍
October 28, 2021
Doing my weekly diary updates a couple days early this week. This weekend I'm doing some work on the basement to finally finish the last of the construction projects for the Dude Cave!!! Once finished, I have a new 2x3 tent and a Viparspectra XS2000 (240w LED) that will be set up next week. Then I'll run the 2x3 for veg/autos and the 2x4 for photos.
As for the plants... The Quick Critical is cranking! That girl is on a growing spree and I have no intention of doing anything to slow her down. The Critical Sour is a week behind, but looking much better than the sister seed that never really did anything after breaking the soil. I'd like to see the Critical Sour hit a growth spurt like the Quick Critical in the upcoming week 🙏 The CBD Medi Kush finally started pushing out a node and some serrated leaves. Its really funky looking right now, almost like its revegging. It will be interesting to see if she hits a growth spurt this week too. With the Dr Bruce Banner I think the seeds are just too old, neither of two seeds popped. I did decide to try to plant one more seed, but a different 1:1 strain. I planted a CBD Lemon Aid, also from Original Sensible Seeds. Hopefully this one will pop, but these seeds are the same age as the Dr B Banner seeds and have been stored the same way (dark space, room temperature, silica humidity pack in the box). If the CBD Lemon Aid doesn't pop, I'm just going to pull out that pot and see what the other 3 do.
Cya next week!

The Quick Critical is taking off!!! I started feeding some nutrients this week and she really seemed to like it. I could flip her to flower now, but I'm going to wait another 1-2 weeks so the other two ladies can veg longer (and to give the autos a chance to finish).
Critical Sour looks like she is ready to start rocking, I expect to see significant growth this upcoming week.
CBD Medi Kush is finally starting to look like a cannabis plant! I have no idea what caused the delayed growth in the initial couple of weeks, but she's seems on track now. Lots of good growth in the past couple of days. This morning when looking at her closely I noticed she is growing two stems. This is going to be fun to watch how she develops. I just hope she doesn't herm out later.
Neither of the two Dr Bruce Banner seeds nor the one CBD Lemon Aid seed I tried planting ever popped. This is now a 3 plant diary.
