Stretch is in full swing — eight inches in three days. Buds are forming on each plant; started first with the Sour Diesel in soil in the front right. At end of week it was smallest of the four, and not growing as fast as the hydro plants. The major defoliating helped greatly to open each for more light penetration and air flow. Original feed tubes were too small and easily blocked up the flow. Traded out those with larger tubes plus valves so I can control flow. Working great now.

After 5 days away from home, this is what I found. Brownish matter clinging to probes and bottom of reservoir tank. Flowed in the current on the probe. It’s not slimy. Any ideas?

If its not smiley it's most likely a nutrient/mineral buildup. I use regular tap water and get that with general hydroponics. It would usually be white but the nutrients stain the buildup brown. Happy Growing

Does anyone have an alternative to General Hydroponics FloraDuo? How about Fox Farms Hydro? My system controls pH and two nutrient solutions automatically, programmed by me. But only two.

The text was being displayed wrong -- 100 dollars or less for all 3 parts that'll give 4,666 gallons and about 6lbs of calcium nitrate leftover. I;ve seen it as low as 70 $ and that would be less than 3 pennies per gallon. Epsom salt 8lb bag from walmart - 5lbs is cheap. Part A 5-12-26 - 35 - 50 dollars 25lb calnitrate of any brand is about 25 to 35 dollars. Epsom 8lb bag at walmart - 5 dollars -- hard to call Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) a 3rd part.. just adding ~1gram a gallon. depending on your tap water, my not need it at all. no additional supplements needed.

JR Peters - Jack's nutrient.. 3-parts, easy to adjust ratios for picky plants. Fully soluble, of course.. and pH-buffered like a mothaf%#$ka you won't need any pH adjustment unless your tap is wicked alkaline or wicked acidic... All of that and it's less than :text.04/gallon mixed... 4 pennies per gallon! Buy in bulk for a couple - 25lbs + foodgrade epsom salt from walmart.. ~0 (or less if on sale, calcium nitrate of ANY brand ~). I am 2 years in and may have Jacks 5-12-26 half way finished... ~/year or less in nutrients for my small garden and that's being conservative.

When harvesting, does anyone ever harvest their plant in phases? Example: I have trichomes approaching harvest on the tops of the colas, but lower down they are still all clear, and will not be ready at the same time. Should I cut tops now, lower ones later?

Yes this is a common thing as the plant ripen at the top before the base, chop the top wait a week chop the rest. Its why people use SCROG technique to produce an even field of growth so they can avoid doing the multi part harvest. Good Luck and Happy Growing!

I’m still fumbling around with my first hydro grow, but the plants are doing pretty well — regardless of the contamination, high temps, clogged water lines, awkward fimming (aptly named technique in my case), and every other mistake. I’ve been growing almost four years, and it’s always new. One observation: never skimp on the lights!
