This was an experiment to see what happens if, when using my Coco coir and perlite mix, one gallon containers can produce a good harvest. I would say yes absolutely. The only con is the amount of times they needed feeding was 2 to 3 times a day, by hand. That became tedious and hard to remember to do everyday. So yes container size isn't as important as I thought it was. I would not recommend using 1 gallon containers for flowering. The roots were all that was in the container. As root bound as I have ever seen. But also my best harvest as far as size and smell of the buds go.

Grow Questions

I am experimenting with flowering in 1 gallon plastic containers. Coco coir as the Medium. Feeding twice a day min. So far the plants are looking great for 2 weeks into flowering using this method. My last grow was in 7 gallon fabric pots. Rootball was no bigger than 1 gallon.

In a soilless grow with multiple feedings, you should reduce the differences that a pot causes, but maybe not completely. I bet you see familiar trends, just reduced impact. Rootball is not only concern.. that's a big rootball, btw. The fibrous threads it sends out are doing most the work. with good irrigation techniques, should be fine hairs throughout substrate and not bunch up near top unless it's simply overgrown a bit for pot... nowehere else to go etc... Because you are feeding 2x a day, it'll have access to more nutes per 24 hours than a normal small pot would have, otherwise. It can keep up with production of larger plant in this context than otherwise. So, should see a reduced impact. at some point, a larger pot will still allow for more root mass. whether you hit that ceiling given size of current pots and length of time in them, who knows...

I experimented with flowering in one gallon pots of coco and perlite. I see a lot of spring tails show up when i water. I have never seen this in my grows, I clean my grow area before a new grow. I used fresh coco and perlite. Where did they come from? how do i prevent this?

I have asked myself that question a few times in the past. All I can come up with is overwatering/watering to frequently. I have noticed they don't seem to do much damage.

It's obviously not in veg. I'm using the mobile version and don't have time to figure out how to change that right now. They are predicted to be ready for harvest sometime this week or early next week. Trichomes are starting to show amber. But not as much as I would like. Plus the last week makes a huge difference in size and overall looks. The ripening process is truly beautiful to witness. I have cut back most nutrients. I water 3 times a day with a little phosphate with condensed molasses soluble (CSM) mono potassium phosphate derived nutrient. At half the dose recommend and a flush midday. To finish with a tiny calmag at the end of the day and some ryzotonic ( all organic besides the calmag). I plan on flushing for the last two days. They are still in one gallon containers of Coco coir and perlite. From what I understand you can flush them later than when using normal soil. It seems to be working as the leaves are turning yellow as if they are sucking the nutrients out. I use Cyco Platinum Kleanse as the flushing agent that is pH adjusted to around 6. Definitely not going to use one gallon containers in the future. This was an experiment. I noticed nutrient issues that I think are from too small of a root ball. And springtails in the Coco that feed in decaying matter. So my guess is they are root bound and the springtails east the dead roots. That's just a speculation. But I have never seen spring tails before and always use fresh Coco. So yeah. Hope you all can learn from my mistakes.

I have been researching why i am seeing a deficiency in my plants and stumbled upon a post from (https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/biocanna-deficiency-issues.41010/?amp=1) That explains exactly what I have been experiencing, So i want to add to the information about BioCanna products. They Do not have enough nitrogen in my and many others experience with using their products. I am not complaining i love the results that they produce when used with another booster or nutrient. But i can confirm they are lacking in the amount of nitrogen if you only use the BioCanna line. Bio Vega and Bio Ryzotonic for the veg, The optional and expensive BioBoost is about $90 a bottle of 1 Liter and requiring 2-4 ml per Liter. It can be very expensive, I cant deny the Results are an incredible smelling plant that i find it worth it. But I am sure their are other ways. Just needed to get the word out., you must add a nitrogen booster of some kind if you use BioCanna, they are approved for Organic farming is why i chose that line. Thanks for reading. spread the word
