So the first week of autos was a roller coaster. After 24hrs soaking in water 3 had popped so I planted to coco and I normally have 100% germination. Which I did. 1 more came up on day 2, on day 3 instead of giving it more time I went "digging" around and broke the radical root on pheno 5.
So week 1 down to 4 phenos of the blueberry auto with a Grow lesson learned. But I am happy with the progress so far as this is my first grow in a tent and with the autos.
The rh started high 60s and was slowly dropped over the week to 50 to 55%. The temp has been 64-73 thru the week. The spyder farmer sf7000 was at 24in at 20% power for the first week. That has been raised to 30in and 30% power for week 2. I only have 1 mini blizzard on the floor running for circulation and the ac infinity running on 6. I am also lower the max level on the fan to 4 to try and raise the temps to stay in low 70s. I am running a huey in the tent so I adjusted that down as well to try and maintain the 50 to 55 rh.
Out of the 4 remaining phenos 1 is a bit bigger then the others. Labeled P1 this 1 started to show a tiny bit tip burn on the 1st leaves. I moved it away from the fan as it was the closest, to make sure it was wind related. I am thinking nitrogen burn possibly maybe the 1/2 casting in each 3 gallon was to much. The remaining phenos do not show any issues.
I will be keeping an eye on that in to week 2.
Week 2 went smoothly, everything is holding a good range. My VPD has been 1- 1.1 all week. P1 is showing a 3rd node already P2+3 are 1 day behind and P4 about 2 days behind those 2.
They got their first real watering with the can end of this week. I probably could have used this sooner but I am trying to avoid over watering at this small of stage. The coco blend is drying up every day at this point, as the watering gets heavier watering will most likely go to every other day.
I did notice a few of those little flying bastards(gnats) crawling around on the top of the coco. I did a neem oil top soil only spray 1oz neem 11 oz water. Used 6oz 1st application I will reapply remaining in 3 days. I will be headed to the grow shop this weekend for sticky traps, I want to monitor the population and make sure to keep this under control.
The water res. got an upgrade, the water temp was a bit low. I tried a plant riser I had 1st to see if getting it up the concrete floor would help. But I ended up getting a 50w fish tank rod heater. This should have no issue keeping my 5 gal water res. Around 68-72. I am hoping the warmer water will promote more growth.
Thanks for all the week 1 support from everyone, any thoughts, advice, maybe things I consider adjusting. Being a newer grower I want to learn as much as I can.
Week 3 went well, the plants got their first top dress. 3T per pot of the DTE and 1/8 C of the casting. Watered that in with recharge. I have decided since I am running organics with autos I dont want to have any lag in the nuits being available.
My plan is to feed the lower (1-2 T per gal.) recommended amount but top dress every 2 weeks with weekly recharge. I think this should keep a constant level amount that hopefully wont burn them.
The lighting was raised up to 40% and the plants seemed to respond well this. I will raise it to 50% over the next week.
The plants got another neem top soil spray middle and end of the week. This seems to have cut down on the gnats.
Week 4 came with a few issues, 100% self inflicted. The grow held at 1 to 1.1 VPD the entire week. The light was gradually raise over the week to 50% and dropped to 18 inchs by the end of the week.
The low dose top dress 2 weeks ago was a bit to much for the plants. I dont beleive it was the nuits as much as the castings. The overall color of the leaves got very dark green and P4 was the first to start to show nitrogen toxicity. I also believe that P4 was to first to show a possible magnesium or potassium deficiency.
I have what I believe to be a 1 issue for sure and possibly a 2nd. So I went to the community with my question. I got great feed back and was able to quickly verify the first issue of to much nitrogen. Shout out to @roberts he was able to help me out and give me a few things to consider for the future.
So 1 thing I have learned not to do is try to fix the world all at once. Meaning focus on 1 issue at a time. First since I dont have a ppm meter to measure run off. I decided to do a 1 to 1 flush with water ph 5.8. So 3 gallons of watered flushed out each pot and then hit them with a recharge watering. My thought here is flush out the heavy nuits and get new microbial life in the soil to start breaking down the remaining nuits to be accessible by the plant which should take about a week so the plants have recovery time.
This will push back my next feeding to week 5 which is what I should have done from the start instead of trying to get fancy and micro dose on my first auto grow.
The plants also got to top soil neem sprays, I will be hitting the plants this weekend as the lights go dark before flowering kicks in.
Pre flower is starting to show Heavy on P 2+3 on the entire plant. I beleive ther heavy nitrogen slowed the grow so my yield maybe small but I am shooting to flavor on this grow higher yields will come. P4 is working on the 5th node but is catching up in height to the rest as I gave not been using last but leaf tucking.
I am excited to see if this flush works out for me. This will also verify if i have a deficiency as well, the burn stops but the yellowing continues we will be addressing that in the coming week.
Week 4 comes to a end and holy cow was it a eye opener. I decided since last weeks burn was an big issue I would purchase a meter. Local grow store had a few options but i went with Blue labs conductivity pen. And i picked up a 3 pack of my next auto run. But those will have to wait.
I watered the plants till they had run off and used the 500ppm scale. I am not 100% i am doing this right, so any pointers of measuring run off and a ppm meter I will gladly take. So I measure the run off at 4000 ppm yes thousand. So I switched the meter to EC and it read 8.8, at this point I didnt know if what I was reading was correct.
Non the less the planets looked better after a flush so I flushed again. I then measured run off at 2000 ppm. So i gave the plants a day to dry up a bit a flushed once more and got the plants down to 1000-1200ppm. Once I did that I watered light with recharge to re inoculate the micbros that I flushed out. The plants got 1 light watering at the end of the week after that.
The grow stayed at the usual 1-1.1 VPD all week. Next week I will slowly transition toward flowering VPD. Mainly a slight drop in humity should set me up right for flower. The light ended the week at 16 inchs and 60% power.
All the plants are looking happier much better color to the leaves and most of the shiny dark green leaves are gone. The burn for the most part is not even noticeable after defoliation. P 1+4 hit their stretch after the first flush so they have taken off a bit. I beleive the nitrogen toxicity was stunning growth across the board. But they are almost done the stretch. P2+3 on the other hand stretched sooner and they are farther ahead then P1+4 but shorter from the lack of stretch time they got.
All in all so far I am happy, I am learning on the fly, and I am enjoying my first indoor grow. Again thank you for any and all support the growing community is one of a kind.
Week 6 brought some new challenges. The plants are starting to really space out from each other in their grow cycle. P3 +4 are now elevated slightly to level the canopy.
The week started with the light feed to transition to full flower. And the norm for me is to water in the top dressed amendments with recharge. The plants are taking more water, but are still on the every other day cycle.
All the plants got a light defol and the LST was adjusted. I am noticing purplish stems developing on fan leaves and a speckled burn to some of the leaves on P2+1. I think this is calcium deficiency but I will be looking to correct that moving in to next week.
Week 7 comes to an end and things went smoothly. P2 is still showing a some "rust" spots on the fan leaves. All the plants have slightly purple stems which I am assuming is due to stress or nuit. deficiency. But for the most part growth was on point.
Just recharged this week, and only water from here on out. Since I am top dressing with the dry amendments there is no need to flush at the end of flower. Unless your me and your run off is thru the roof again and then I will flush.
All the plants have been lollipoped and pretty much daily defoliation happens. Small amounts of fan leaves to keep air flow in the entire plant moving as well as any covering major flower sights.
I am am going to ride out the issue P2+P1 is now showing a little. So basically put things on cruise control and hope for the best. Light defoliation and water should finish things out so I am starting to work on my coco mix for my next Dutch Passion 2 strain auto run. Fresh coco so I can avoid any lingering nuits like in this current run. Reusing coco can be done but not for this beginners next run.
Week 8 went well for the most part. I am still seeing a deficiency in p2+4. I am not sure if there is much I can do about it at this time in flower with how quickly these autos are moving. But the purpleish stems have seemed to fade quite a bit only the larger fan leaves holding the deeper purple colors in the stem.
Trying to adjust the RH down in the grow had the VPD fluctuating quite a bit toward the end of the week 1.2-1.6. Watering of 1/2-3/4 gal of water to each plant just to keep the coco moist and the exhaust getting turned up to 6, the pots are "drying out" daily. I had to play with the huey to get the level stable.
The plants didnt need much this week for maintenance, daily watering which I enjoy, and light defoliation. I may have gotten a little heavy handed on P4 but I am not concerned, I can just water it for a week and it will be back to full again.
The light is holding at 85% right now the canopy got leveled out. I am now using a 4 gal bucket and two 3gal pots to raise up the plants to be level with P4 the main flower just shot up. That adjustment has brought some possible light bleaching and burn tips on some of the plants I re-adjusted the light to 18in as well to start this next week.
Over all I am happy with the weeks progress. The smell in the tent is picking up quite a bit. The Terps are coming on strong the air is filled with sweet blueberry scones, and a random hit of gas every so often. As always thank you for any support and any constructive criticism I do appreciate it. "Growth doesn't come from mere chance, it is a combination support that creates it"
Week 9 flew by with the holiday, so I apologize for the "weak" entry. I didnt get much time in the grow other then a quick water and move the plants around.
The end of the week I spent some time in there looking things over. Tricolms on P3 are majority cloudy I estimate another 2 weeks for her. Watering is at 60 deg. as well on that plant. The others are filling in nicely.
P4 is getting crushed by this deficiency that I am seeing slightly in the others as well. Its narrowed down to cal., mag., or potassium. I decided to make a quick tea of seabird guano and langbinte, brewed that 24 hrs added a 1 tsp of recharge and ran another 24hrs. Hopefully this will make the nuits available a bit quicker. The only real down fall of dry amendment organic growing to me is correcting nuit issues. If you see the issue early enough and address it(I did not) you can brew a tea or top dress to correct it.
Thanks again for the support and happy holidays everyone.
Week 10 wasnt to bad. I added an 8 foot "snorkel" to the tent to bring in air from a differnt room that is cooler to bring temps down. This also dropped the RH so I had to kick on the huey. VPD held around 1.4 for most of the week.
Instead of reaching out to the community with the issue right from the start. I self diagnosed wrong and thought I had calmag or potassium deficiency. Instead I am realizing now its nuit lock out again..... I tested run off on P4 and yep some how I did it again 4000ppm. Didnt learn from the first time.
P4 is still getting 70 deg. Watering the others are receiving 60 deg. I think that with the temp drop in the tent has helped the colors start to come out. P1+2 are running 800ppm so watering out from here should be good.
I purchased a new tent to set up for drying and veg stage. That should be set up soon and will show up toward the end of this grow.
Week 11 comes to and end. Another hectic week out of the grow, which is leaving me limited time to hang out in the grow. Recently I am lucky to get 15 to 20 min in the tent.
I chose to go the "simpler" route of organics. I know how I am always wanting to add my own touch and micro manage the plants. And I thought with bottle nuits I would over do it and end up unhappy with the results. Well turns out you can really do that with organics as well, only difference is the quality of these genetics I am convinced saved my grow.
I have beat these things to death with not managing the pest well enough, over watering, over feeding, flushing over feeding again. You get the point, but these flowers still are turning out so frosty and the smell is intense floral berries. My hat is off to fast budz for having great genetics, and not allowing me to completely destroy this grow.
The plants are are all over the place, P3 is looking milky but just isnt turning amber. As P1 and 2 start to fade the tricolms are already milky and showing a few amber on the lower flower. P4 on the other hand is so nuit locked I am not sure if it will even make it to finish.
I kept trying to self diagnose the issue and again I didnt reach out to the community my fault. But I found a video from dude grows show that had a mulder chart and a deficiency chart that help to determine issues. Very easy to read. So that is a new tool in my belt for the future. But this chart helped me to determine nuit lock out was the issue.
Probably a little to late but I hit P4 with recharge to try and breath a bit of life back in to finish out so we will keep an eye on it. That's all I have for this week, next week I will be releases the next 2 cultivars I will be running from dutch passion. Thanks for any and all support, it is appreciated.
Week 12 brought on the amber. The tent held VPD 1.6 all week. With the temps dropping the plants faded a bit more.
P3 is close to moving to the dark tent for 48hrs. P2 and 1 are maybe a week out at most. P4 is 2 weeks.
