FabioFobia First experience without sunlight and horse manure. Referring to the indoor issue, I always thought: "I won't do it, but if I do, I'll let my imagination run wild." And here I am with a hydroponic setup, a few basics, a lot of curiosity, and a desire to play. In the first 10 days, I had problems with timing the water pump functionally... in fact, the plants suffered from too much water.

FabioFobia I'm starting to suspect that the two plants have different phenotypes...the one on the right is more vigorous. I should increase the EC level, but I'm not doing it.

FabioFobia We're entering the 12-12, and the game is getting interesting. The girls continue their amazing growth, and every day they change shape, increasing the challenge of keeping them contained within their little home. I've removed the dehumidifier, but I'm waiting for the first buds to start using the extractor. The red ladybug represents the maximum height I can utilize.

FabioFobia Here are the first burn marks from excess nutrients. This all happened due to a calculation error... Apparently, my EC meter wasn't lying when it showed over 2000ppm... I'm trying to bring the values back to a more suitable level. Despite this, the gorillas have remained explosive!!!

FabioFobia The week starts with a sulfur deficiency (many petioles have turned magenta, and pink spots have appeared on one leaf), this is due to not waiting for the new solution to reach an appropriate pH level before pouring it into the system. Despite everything, super lush growth. The 2 little sisters have different traits: one is flowering faster, stretching like a sativa and has roots that don't go down into the reservoir where the aqueous solution is but remain in the expanded clay, unlike the other whose roots have invaded the entire hydroponic system (let's hope they don't damage the water pump). The latter tends to stay more compact with closer internodes like an indica and has never shown signs of deficiencies (handles pH fluctuations of 1 point well).

FabioFobia This week the water temperature in the tank dropped to 18 degrees and in some cases even to 17. Even though the gorilla girls have shot up, they showed signs of deficiency, especially sulfur. So for these cold months, I ordered a thermostat to keep the water temperature around 20 degrees.

FabioFobia I added the thermostat to keep the nutrient solution at 20 degrees, then as a good beginner, I went overboard with the EC value (over 2000ppm) and now the leaves of the gorilla are starting to burn. This strain could even be grown by my 2-year-old son, impossible to kill... anyway, next week I'll drop to EC 1200ppm and I'll put a small dehumidifier in the grow box.

FabioFobia Incredible!!! Every day, more than a liter of water disappears from the reservoir. This week I’ve brought the EC levels down to acceptable levels. The house is starting to smell fantastic: sweet truffle with a hint of orange, a delight... The two genotypes continue to show different traits: the plant on the left is now coloring its leaves magenta and gives off a sweet diesel scent, while the plant on the right retains its color but has a more earthy and citrusy smell.

FabioFobia This week the flowers have slowed down their growth but continue to produce copious amounts of trichomes. Looking at other diaries on this same strain, I've noticed that in many cases it tends to increase the volume of the buds in weeks 8 and 9.

FabioFobia I decided to start the flushing, but leaving useful substances circulating in the system for this final phase. This is because, being hydroponic, a heavy flushing would ruin the flavor by making the plant wilt too quickly. In the last 3 days of the final week, I will rinse everything with rainwater.

FabioFobia I found a bud with a bit of mold, I'm pretty sure I cleaned well... I was planning to finish in 10 weeks experimenting with a light but longer flushing, but given the mold risk, I won't push it past 9 weeks and 3 days. As for the rest, the 2 gorilla girls have increased the volume of their flowers and achieved copious concentrations of trichomes.... See you at harvest!!!!

FabioFobia In the end, I decided to finish the whole tenth week of flowering with 3 days of flushing, 2 days of just rainwater, and 2 days without water and light... finally, to ensure a slower and more even drying, I'm trying to hang the healthy plants leaving leaves and branches... probably the temperature will fluctuate between 17 and 19 degrees and the humidity between 55% and 70%... I hope that all the choices I made will lead me to a good product. I guess we'll see each other again in the first week of February for the conclusion of the diary, in the meantime, thanks to those who followed me during these 4 months... GROWDIARIES is a great motivation to do better.

Happy Harvest Day!

FabioFobia The only note I feel like mentioning is that the phenotype with the characteristics of Girl Scout Cookies suffered from mold during the flowering stage, unlike the other phenotype, which was extremely resistant throughout the growth cycle, withstanding the stress caused by my lack of experience with hydroponic techniques.

You said you suspect they have different phenotypes... I believe it's the genetics that are unstable... I have 3 Gorilla Girls and they are all different from each other... one is growing without getting bushy, one is getting almost too bushy (the branches of the lower nodes are surpassing the apex) and the last one is kind of in between.
FabioFobia
FabioFobia commented5y ago
@Seed1997, you're the umpteenth grower who has noticed the instability of this genetic... I managed to keep the 2 gorillas at the same height, but for example, one is flowering faster than the other.
Seed1997
Seed1997 commented5y ago
@FabioFobia, it happens often but here it's pronounced, they are really unstable... the last time it was some Ladyburn from Green House and out of 3 plants, not one was the same, even the buds were totally different in appearance and smell, not to mention that one was 3.50m tall while another was 1m. These gorillas are really strange, the second leaf that came out on 2 had 7 tips already while one of the two had a normal 3 tips. Then there are leaves that look like they belong to a succulent plant and I don't understand what these water droplets are from.

@Carli_Ugelblizz, the reality is that I'm a beginner (first indoor experience), and like all beginners, I risk administering excessively high EC values... my knowledge is based on a few articles I've read online, I'm definitely exceeding the recommended maximum limits, and I like this!

@FabioFobia, slow down the nuts a little bit i guess the tip of the leafes get brown. thats an indicator 4 too much nuts :) cheers

@Carli_Ugelblizz, this week I almost halved the EC, it seems to be going better even though the leaves are a bit damaged now.... I'll be adding the eleventh week soon.

Hi! Nice choice of strain, im currently growing the Gorilla Girl strain in organic living soil to get maximum taste out of my flower. What do you think of growing this strain so far? Has it been without problems or have you encountered some issues with the strain in particular? Anyway, have a great day and happy growing. 😎 🌱
