First time growing in a handful of years!!!! Excited to be back at it. Decided to give Ethos a try, and these strains were highly recommended. Used to good old paper towel method to pop two of each, and all four have popped nice strong tap roots in just about 48 hours. Let's go!!!!
(Should have put them into the soil juuuust a but earlier but I was out of town for the night and just got around to it this morning
11/29 - Put freshly popped seeds in solo cups with 80/20 mixture of Coast of Maine Stonington Blend & Mother Earth #3 perlite (plus a very small amount of dolomite lime, since I'm waiting for new pH equipment and am currently unsure of my tap water pH, figured a little lime would be a good idea).
Temps and RH steady in the 70°/40% range.
Sprinkled a small pinch of Recharge on top of each cup's soil. Pre-soaked using tap water with just a few drops of Fish Shit.
I have never used Recharge or Fish Shit before, and at this stage I know they aren't really needed, and I'm not sure if they'll even do anything. But curiosity got the best of me so I decided to give it a go with those very small amounts, just to see what happens.
If anyone has experience with any of these (Coast of Maine, Recharge, Fish Shit) I'd love to hear!)
P.S. My grow space is a 4x4 Mars Hydro tent with Mars Hydro TS3000 and AC infinity T6 fan/filter combo. With Controller 67. Such a nice, strong, quiet fan and the ability to monitor/change settings/see temp and RH history on your phone is SO AWESOME. Have a small humidifier for when necessary and I'll be getting a co2 bag. Loving my setup so far though. Temps and RH all good and easy to control. Think the girls will love it :)
12/1 - All have popped above soil, cotyledons are spreading their wings, and they're now under 24hr light (at 50% strength). Humidifier is on, hopefully I can get that RH higher for the first couple weeks.
12/2 - Got that humidity a little higher, gotta remember to make sure the humidifier is full before I go to bed every night though, it ran out around 2am causing a humidity drop/temp increase (only slight, went up a couple degrees and down 5-10% RH) but still my max temp is 71° and min RH is 36%. So I know it's nothing to worry about.
12/9 - First update in a week, I've been working crazy hours and just haven't had the time. Things have been going pretty well, except over the past 2-3 days I started to notice some slight yellow spotting in the middle of the leaves, the only thing I can think of is a pH problem since I've been watering straight tap since that first small "feed"
I'm waiting on a new pH meter from Amazon but luckily I had some pH test drops left over from a while ago. I pH'd a big jug of water to around 6-6.5 and just flushed out the solo cups until the runoff was also in that same pH range.
Hopefully things won't get any worse, and they perk up a bit before I transplant to the 5gal bags.
Since the Coast of Maine Stonington Blend is supposed to contain everything plants need for seedling/veg, I don't really think it would be a deficiency, but I'll put up some pics and if anyone has any input, it would be appreciated!
12/10 - So... I figured out the problem. Got my new pH meter today and checked my tap... it's fucking 10.1... I thought that had to be wrong but I calibrated twice to make sure. The meter is on point!
Anyway... they seemed to be doing alright after that mini flush I gave them so I transplanted them to their final homes today, 7gal fabric pots. Gave them each a little drink, about 1.5qts of water pH'd to 6.5 (I sprinkled about 1/8 tsp Recharge into the transplant holes before popping them in and watering).
Upped light intensity to 75%
Now let's see how they react to the new homes 🙂
