I'm doing both Paper Towel and Glass of Water methods of germination.
Paper Towel = 3x Grapefruit Auto
Glass of Water = 2x LSD-25 Auto
After 24 hours I will take the LSD-25's out of the water and put them in soil.
After I see a tail on the grapefruits then I will put them in soil.
I will update after they germinate
UPDATE:
15th December: After 24hrs all seeds using both methods had germinated with little tails protruding out so I planted them in soil and put them in a seed starter germination dome with a heat mat set to 76f degrees. The soil I'm using in the starter pots is a 50/50 mix of Fox Farm Ocean Forest and Hydrofarm Lightwarrior soilless seed starter mix. I put them about 1 cm deep with a little bottled water I had prewarmed on the heat map.
17th December: They have now sprung out of the soil and they all look pretty healthy to me. I am going to keep them in this humidity dome for a few days to make sure they are good and healthy for the first stage of life before I transplant them to the 5 gal fabric bags full of Ocean Forest I have waiting for them.
18th December: They were getting a little stretchy so I decided to use my 200 LED at %50 to give the seedlings ~16k LUX and I removed the little florescent that came with the germination dome. Just for reference, the florescent provided about 10k LUX from my test. So this should stop the seedlings from stretching and having the more powerful LED at only %50 will help warm up the tent without the need for exhaust.
19th December: Just took a couple of pictures.
21st December: Day 4 - Added a pic and removed the dome to prepare seedlings for transplant. I have to transplant early since they are autos. (3x Grapefruits left and 2x LSD-25s right)
Dec 24th, day 7.
I put the plants the 5 gal pots.
One of the LSD-25's look miniaturized, I don't know what causes that but it seems every grow I do I get at least one freak mutant plant which is why I prepared for 5 plants because I expected one will die or not fill in the space anyway. I am putting the weakling in the middle
Update:
Dec 27: Both of the LSD-25's are miniaturizing. 😥
I don't know why they are doing this so I am germinating 2 more of them. The Grapefruits seem to be doing great
Dec 29: Watered with Growers Recharge (a light dose) in the hope to get the roots spreading out asap.
Dec 31: I topped 2 of the Grapefruits on the left side of the tent. The other 2 LSD-25 seeds have now germinated but I am leaving them in the seed starter dome for much longer this time to see if it prevents retardation.
Jan 1st: Day 15
I pulled and threw away the tiny miniaturized LSD-25 so now I just have 4 plants.
My total wattage draw with everything maxed out is about 512w - that is with 2 LED lights, 3 fans and the exhaust fan.
Updates:
Jan 6th: Day 20
For the additional LSD-25 seedlings I germinated on the 31st of last month I put them in two different soil types: Fox Farm Ocean Forest potting soil and Hydrofarm Light Warrior soilless mix. I wanted to see if maybe the reason I'm getting retarded LSDs is that my Ocean Forest is too hot (nutrient-wise) so that was retarding my seedlings and with my test, I would say that is true. The seedling in the FFOF cup is half as developed and it has retarded round leaves so that one will probably die off but I will let it go for now to see what happens. It could be a one off though so I wouldn't put much stock in it but I thought it was interesting to note. I transplanted the good looking seedling into a 5gal pot which does mostly have FFOF but i created a large buffer of additional Light Warrior so I hope maybe if it gets past the seedling phase it will be okay.
The 3 Grapefruits are doing great.
The LSD-25 (bottom right on pic) is smaller then the others but its doing alright and its showing some nice purple colors on the flowers. The other 2 LSD's that I started 2 weeks later in the middle seem to have made it thru the seedling phase without any retardation like the previous two and I guess that's because I let them develop longer in the seed starter humidity dome before transplanting so I will continue doing that in the future.
If all these plants fill out this small 3x4 tent I will easily pull a pound this grow.
the 2 LSD-25s that I started 2 weeks later than the others are now the biggest plants in the tent.
The 4 more mature plants on the outside corners are getting frosty and losing a lot of leaves.
The 2 younger (but bigger) plants in the middle are developing nice purple colors and even though I haven't fed them anything but water they look pretty healthy to me. The have some discoloration in some of the fan leaves but that's it.
