We obviously aren’t starting at the beginning with this little lass, she’s four weeks into flower now. The Hawaiian Snow is our house favorite high, with great energy and euphoria as well as the ability to unleash some of your creativity. No kidding there, my wife tried drawing for the first time and discovered she’s actually a phenomenal artist! This plant is especially sensitive to cal/mag deficiencies, which I learned the hard way in my last cycle, so don’t be shy with the cal/mag. With this plant I have switched over to the advanced nutrients, and she’s growing very nicely. This strain only stretches about eight inches, which makes it perfect for a grow tent. Another great thing about this strain is that the stems are very bendy, making it perfect for LST. The only drawback in my opinion is a 12-14wk flowering cycle!
Ah, week 5 of flowering, the long wait continues, another 8 weeks or so before harvest. Bud are developing nicely, and have begun the plumping process. From here on out I’ll continue to feed them as much as possible, getting this prized piglet fattened up, ready for the county fair. The colony of friendly spider mites help guide my hand despite numerous treatments, they truly are a resilient pest. You can see I’m using the PH perfect sensi, and I can tell you that it’s not PH perfect. I have to adjust PH just as much with these nutrients as I have with any other, but at least it’s something I’m used to. There haven’t been any major problem at this point, though I did crack a branch accidentally, but not to worry, a little tape and wire and she’s fixed up and growing as if nothing happened, better in fact, that branch is actually growing more vigorously than the rest. These sativa dominant plants grow so slowly and it can drive you crazy, but the highs are definitely worth the wait!
We’re around halfway through the flowering cycle, and at this point it’s just maintaining and keeping an eye out for problems. The buds are developing and filling out nicely, nicely but slowly as is so common for this haze blend. I know it will be worth it in the end, this really is a wonderful strain to smoke, so I have no choice but to stay the course.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, this is our favorite strain, a wonderful haze hybrid with a happy creative high. She isn’t difficult to grow, but she’s definitely slow like most sativa. She’s under thirty inches and she won’t grow any taller (the result of very careful LST early on. From here on her buds will only continue to fill out, and hopefully in three more weeks the’ll be firm and ready to harvest. The only problem I’ve had with her is a spider mite infection, which I’ve treated weekly with a knockout pyrethrin aerosol. I spray the undersides of the leaves generously and then lightly coat the tops. The spread seems to have halted for now, but spider mites are very resilient little bastards.
There’s not much to report this week, with a haze blend like this there’s a long wait during flowering, and so the task becomes just maintenance. We did get a first look at the trichromes under the scope yesterday, and while they are nicely developed, they are still very clear, so I think this girl is going to need another two to three weeks before harvest.
