Week 8 of growth
A solid week of rain here, with a once in 100 year weather event resulting in local flooding. I have been fortunate not to have any serious damage here and the plants have spent most of the week in the shed. Although they have missed out on some valuable sunlight, they are doing really well. When it’s not raining, they are getting ideal wet and steamy conditions which has resulted in lush green colour. The caterpillars are already out. These will likely get worse in coming weeks, so I will need to be onto it. Of all the plants, it’s the chunk im most excited about. It seems to have stopped growing now, so I am a bit pissed off that I didn’t put it in a smaller pot. Despite this, it already has some smell, and I can confirm it is a fruity pineapple smell which is the most desirable phenotype. I can tell from the spaced out structure that I won’t get much from it so it will go into my private bin for special occasions only 🍻
@Shooey, we have been breaking records with the temps over here in the west
Onslow which is north of me got to 51 yesterday 😮
Was only 44 here 😏
I planted heaps this summer because I plan on taking a break for a month so I can go fishing
and enjoy the beach a bit.
With luck I might get several pounds to keep me in smoko so I can take a break
@Grey_Wolf, thanks Wolf!
Great to be back into it.
Looks like you have your hands full this year too!
Hoping for some kind weather to get these ones safely through.
Cheers mate 🍻
Thanks @EasyName! Very kind mate, but the topping is really easy.
I have been experimenting a bit with defol, as well as tucking and folding leaves.
I think it’s really helped the lower parts reach up more quickly, and they look nice and full already 🍻
@Shooey, well good to know, I have a few free seeds so at least I know what to expect.
But at least you didn't really loose any money 🤠
I was really just asking because I had a case where one of my seed wasn't sprouting (went from 24h in water to being in a wet paper towel), so I took my forceps and squeezed it until a heard a small crack, and then placed it back into the paper towel..a day later it started to sprout. Maybe this could save a seed in the future if you find yourself in such a situation🤔
@EasyName, Hi Easy! Great to hear from you mate 👍
Honestly it was all over the place. They all sunk but a few didn’t sprout. A few sprouted but didn’t grow. A few popped up and stalled.
It’s a result to be expected from free seeds. They are good to get with your order, but you can’t rely on them in the same way as your purchased seeds. Better to pay for quality and ensure reliability 👍
@Shooey to kill the catterpillars grab some "Yates" Catterpillar Killer made from Dipel which is harmless to everything else
gives the pillars a stomach poison that kills them off quick
@Grey_Wolf, thanks wolf. A guy from Canada suggested Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) .
From reading, it seems to work in a similar way, have you ever used it mate?
@@SCooBy_SNacKs,cheers Scoob. Yep you are gonna have some big ones on your hands mate!
I had a couple last year, but it doesn’t suit me being in the city, and needing to move em when there’s weather or kids around.
Hence the early and late grows, which is mostly about keeping them the ideal size.
Next mission is sourcing some good new strains for next season and beyond now.
Yours are looking unreal this year mate, you will be set for ages 👍
@Med_in_Tropic, I think they are some slow release fertiliser in the potting mix I used mate. My super soil is too rich for young roots, so I start in this mix before transplanting. Potting mix here can be full of sticks and stones unless you pay for good ones
