I shook the seeds in my scuff container which is just a small pill bottle with a piece of fine sand paper glued inside. The sandpaper scuffs the shell of the seed which puts fine scratches in it, essentially increasing the surface area of the seed. That allows the moisture to penetrate into the seed faster. I've popped seeds in as little as 10 hours with this method. After I scuffed the seeds a little I put them in a folded up wet paper tower. I wet the paper towels with some filtered water with a ¼ml of GH Rapid Start and ¼ml of Zeus Juice from Nectar For The Gods. The seeds popped within 14 hours. I transfered them to Root Riot plugs and put them in a domed propagator. I filled the bottom ¼" of the propagator tray with dechlorinated water with a few drops of GH Rapid Start, a few drops of CaliMagic, a few drops of Zeus Juice, and a few drops of VeloKelp. The seedlings popped out of the plugs in 24 hours. They're all strong and healthy.
Plants are showing strong growth. They should turn out good. I can't wait to see how they turn out. They love the ECOT480 quantum board I'm using. These are strong auto genetics
Did some light defoliation and tucking to let some light down into the lower branches. The fan leaves are large and broad so they block a lot of light. Plants don't seem to mind. Defoliating didn't phase them. They're strong plants. I started light bloom nutes. In another week I'll switch over to full bloom nutes.
Had a calcium toxicity from trying out a couple Nectar For The Gods supplements I got in a free sample kit from them. I looked then up and their whole lineup is calcium based so that makes sense. I flushed the pots out really well and then I brewed a compost tea with earthworm castings, green compost, humus, seaweed extract, humic acid, fulvic acid, kelp powder, some malted barley, NFTG Zeus Juice, Primordial Solutions Sea Green, a little Hyshield, some Europonic Nitrozyme, Europonic Fossil Fuel, and then some blackstrap molasses and brown sugar. I brewed it for 40 hours and then I added 1 cup per gallon of water and fed all my plants with it. They all perked right up. They seemed to love it.
This is my first time growing autos since "Lowrider Auto" came out 20 years ago, so I'm having to relearn autos. They seem to like half the strength of my photo feeding plan for veg and then ¾ strength for bloom. They like it when I do a flush once a week with AACT to help wash out any built up nutes and recharge the microbes in the medium. They're doing really good now. I think I have them figured out. I might keep doing autos in my 3x3 depending on how the yield and quality turns out. The Wedding Glue plant I have closest to my Flower Power UV-B light is turning a strong purple color already. I'm planning on dropping my night temps starting this weekend so I'm excited to see how purple it will get. Too bad you can't take clones from autos. I'd like to save that pheno.
Buds are packing on more weight and tightening up. Shouldn't be too much longer now. I'm going to do a flush with compost tea today. It helps wash out any salt buildup and it inoculates my coco at the same time. The plants seem to love it.
The buds from the purple pheno had more of a sativa type bud structure and a more hashy taste to them. The green pheno had chunkier indica type buds and a more pronounced flavor profile. They both had an excellent smooth taste with no harshness or bite at all. You would never know they were autos just from looking at them.
This was my first attempt at autos in over 20 years. The Wedding Glue plants blew me away as far as quality goes, but as usual with autos the yields were a bit disappointing. The Strawberry Banana didn't even really form buds, just a plant chalk full of larf. Like instead of forming individual buds it spread them out along the entire branch like a big larfy corn dog. It had to be genetics. I've never had that happen before. My lighting is on point...I have a 480w with lm301h diodes and Meanwell drivers putting out 900-1100 PPFD across the canopy at almost 1.5" away...and every other plant I've ever grown under that light has come out with rock solid, dense, chunky nugs. Definitely not a strain I'd grow again. The Wedding Glue however was a great plant. They just need to stabilize the genetics better so the phenos don't vary as much. Overall these plants were MUCH better than the Lowrider autos I grew back in 2002/2003, but they still leave a lot to be desired especially when it comes to yields. Last grow I got 23 dry ounces from one photoperiod in the same tent with the same light and nutrients. This grow I got a little over half that yield with 4 autos. 4x the plants for ½ the yield, but ⅓ faster harvest times. I think I want to keep exploring autos before I give up on them entirely, but so far I still feel like autos are novelty. You could just 12/12 a photoperiod from seed and get better yields and better quality with the same, if not faster, harvest times.
Bud came out super larfy. It was a genetic defect. My setup is on point and dialed in perfectly. I've never had this happen before. Instead of individual chunky buds the buds developed along the whole branch like a big larfy corn dog. I had a couple decent buds form in the 2-3 dominant apical branches, but the rest was just a combination of larf and leaves all the way down. Great smell and great trichome production, but very poor bud structure. Would not grow again.
Really not a fan of this strain. Buds came out airy and larfy. Ended up with one mason jar of what looks like shake but it's just the larfy buds broken up.
@Fast_Buds, yeah the Wedding Glue is phenomenal. It was really interesting how different the two phenos were. The one was very purple and the other had no purple at all but it had better bud formation. Both had completely different terpene profiles. The Wedding Glue performed a lot better than the Strawberry Banana in my setup. For some reason the buds just wouldn't chunk up. The whole plant was like one big larfy nug. I even waited until it had 20% amber trichomes and the buds wouldn't tighten up. I was giving the plants around 800-900 PPFD from a full spectrum LED, so I know they were getting plenty of light. I couldn't figure that one out. The trichome and terpene production was out of control on both plants. I use Flower Power UV-B lights which increases trichome production and these autos responded a lot stronger than the usual photoperiod plants I grow. This was my first auto grow since Lowryder came out in 2003 so I'm sure if I had more time to work with these genetics I could squeeze out some better performance, but overall I was very impressed with the quality. You've rekindled my interest in auto genetics. Thanks again!
