Exciting first grow ever trying autos! Due to my past issues in overzealous watering habits, I have chosen coco coir as to offset my pathological overwatering habits. Came across this strain online: regardless of how many favourites one may have, you need a kind of "everyday" 360 degrees type of smoke to have at hand. You take that factor, plus a strong high yielding nature, snd you have a pretty attractive strain to try! germinated directly in substrate with minimum watering and transparent dome.

the ladies are growing exponentially. As watering has always been a delicate subject, the bonsai artist in me (without knowing any better at first) did water just the bare minimum. Moby DIck started to display off signs of red flags: since day one when she sprouted she showed an ever increasing marbling pattern on the leaves. Will water-feed-monitor very closely and try to solve it.

The Moby Dick still shows that parchment like leaf structure with bleached marblings. considering that aside, she is pumping the most among them all. May be simple genetics but it is alarmingly dry at the touch despite the high humidity and care.

Things are taking off: first true set of leaves coming up. Moby DIck: still showing this odd parchment like texture on leaves. Did some research and it may be tobacco marble virus (???). Still, that issue aside she is the fastest and most reliable pheno of them all at this moment.

OK: did my first bit of LST. lowered and stretched open the longest branches and the main stem so to allow better light penetration throughout to potential bud sites. Started to pump on nutes a little and, of course, the Moby dick, powerhouse of a strain. not even defoliation and LST stopped her growth. Marbling on the leaves remains, but I start to think it is nothing but genetics as the plant couldn't be healthier otherwise.

Explosion: almost overnight all the ladies have to doubled in size, and then some.... the full 4x4 is now filled completely and space management is starting to get difficult. Moby: the webbing and marbling on the leaves are getting paler. She is drinking now twice as much as all the others, withstanding a full nute feed daily. getting bushy as the tent is occupied by her for 40%. responded well on LST and further defoliation.

Preflowering for them all. Pistils are now clear and bud sided as forming all over. Nute schedule has been amended to introduce bloom feeding gradually. Moby Dick: SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!!!! what a massive beast. twice the girth and size of the others with about 40% more colas and bud sies than the rest. she drinks like a fish and no solution is too strong. My wife watered her by mistake with the collected runoff from the day before (2000ppm !!!!!!!!!) and......... NOTHING... I could day she perked up a little and stretched even higher. 1.3 meters and stretching. Started to use some michorizae friendly additives to support the root growth. Still updating on the LST every other day to adjust and optimise. I am noticing that the whole grow tent is showing signs of overfeeding. I will begin to both water to runoff at 30% from now on, but only after a long overdue flushing with neutral water in which I will check ppm's all over.

Trichomes are being produced all over. The recent cold spell in my area also helped to lower the temps by one degree, consistent with the mid flowering growth pattern. Bloom nutes are now used regularly with weekly flushing. I am noticing that the runoff ppm for several of them is 1800-3000+ (😱). I will amend the watering schedule, flush for an extra time per week and introducing a lower ppm feeding on alternate day to counterbalance. Across the whole tent the Moby Dick is the absolute largest of the whole tent. All of this despite some alarming high value in last week's ppm runoff (2800). It is finally down to 1900, which is still higher than my solution, but on schedule with a progressive cleanse since I first started to flush regularly. Moby dick: the marbling on leaves persists. at this stage I can say that ut is genetic and it is not imparting the plant growth in any shape or form. if the massive colas and bud sites complete maturity, I am looking at a 180/220g plant. this is a big IF.......

Stopped LST completely and removed all the wires. defoliation is now a daily chore: it is growing to be a jungle in there, impacting light penetration and humidity all over. And when you start to think that everything went well:TAH DAH!!!!!! signs of mites! I panicked checkd all pots an, sadly they are affecting every plant. everything has been sterilised with bleach and cinnamon tea/ neem oil has been thoroughly sprayed and poured in every pot. I am tending to think they are compost mites: thy have not attacked any roots, they only gather on decomposing leaves and rotting stems in the soil. Not a single mite was noticed anywhere but the top soil and nowhere else. that been said: better them dead than me worried. I will continue with cinnamon tea and neem oil spray. Moby Dick doing her Moby dick thing. now all the side colas that have spent a week+ not in direct light are gearing up like the top ones. strong growth all over and 20% defoliation done to make things manageable. Cannot describe how bummed out I feel upon my discovery of the compost mites. the "good" thing is that they seem interested to the rotting organics in the top soil only and they are not gathering anywhere but there. any recommendations on how to get rid of them completely are accepted: although I am being told that compost mites are harmless, I dont want to risk it.

The lady is swelling. The buds are swelling and getting covered in more and more trichomes each time the lights come on. The mite issue seems to be kept in check: topsoil daily misting of neem oil solution plus the use of atomised cinnamon in each feeding seems to be doing the trick. No leaf or bud has seen any mites so far, fingers crossed, and 3/4 weeks away from harvest I would like to keep it that way. It may very well be the case that they are compost mites and they are only feeding on decaying matter in the soil. I have increased the feeding schedule a little: knowing the she has been particularly hungry, I have kept it still relatively low considering these are the second or third to last week of feeding. ppm is at 1000 or lower; I could admittedly push it to 1600ppm right with intermitted lower days at 7/850ppm, but the last thing I would like to do is to fall into a nute burn right before harvest. The runoff is still 1650-1800, considerably lower from the scary 3000+ppm from 3 weeks ago, but still a tad higher than I wish. I may go all out on end of this week and next with full strength feed and see how she can deal with it: in my experience from what I have seen her doing so far, she ll be breezing through it like nothing and pull one last freak bulking in few days.

She still doing her thing. I have lightly increased the nutes to a full dose of nutes and she seemed to have taken it well but a faint burnt tips, almost too tiny too notice: I am at least glad I have finally witnessed the whole spectrum of how much she take take in feeding. The mite issue seems to be in check. nothing but the casual white mite having a stroll through the topsoil and absolutely nothing on the roos/stems/leaves/buds. One of the two highest colas is literally centimetres away from the led lights: their fan leaves are exhibiting light burn patterns. For as much was I would like to LST its way lower, is way too thick and there is no way I can lower it at this stage of the plant's grow cycle. witnessing the various stages of growth in this entire 4x4 grow tent, I will focus on less plants ( 2 max in 5gal pots) or will plant 5 in 3 gallon pots, next time. why all this? I am noticing it is become counterproductive having the tent literally so densely packed with 4 gorgeous plants. The Moby dick in particular is not showing her full potential, one of the furthest corners closer to the walls is jam packed with many colas, sadly not as developed as the part of the canopy in direct led light. I could have get a shot of filling the whole 4x4 tent with this plant only, but now I find myself with a semi developing plant that couldn't possibly receive any more defoliation. My fear was to not being able to fill the whole canopy and I not only achieved it, but it soon got out of control. The beautiful genetics from barney s farm are certainly a powerhouse in consistency and size (4 different ones in one tent, and all well above the average auto size you get researching and browsing out there). Will certainly either upgrade to a 12x8 or plant 1 or maximum 2 phenos per tent so to get the most out of them. Such I shame seeing so many underdeveloped popcorn buds to be just beneath the canopy that will never fully develop. I guess this is the beauty in growing: you never cease to adjust/learn and adapt.

Alrighty then! slowly but surely all colas and bud sites are swelling and growing: about halfway from reaching the characteristic puffy cotton like consistency. Still lots of raw vegetal growth all round, and still a discreet density in both foliage but most importantly buds. The next thing may sound odd to few: upon daily checking I am realising the distinctive terp profile is strange, odd, and quite familiar. I am sure that curing and the final resin concentration will change its flavour, but at present and for the past few weeks, it produces a sliced smoked mortadella ham flavour. That s it, I said! I kid you not guys, this is how it smells now, it feels like smelling around an Italian deli store. The water intake consumption has been visibly lower, resulting for an unusually damp coco after 24hrs and 3L solution. I changed to 1.5 litres only daily, still producing 20% runoff. Will update as the week goes by as much as I can.

Well Well Well. I don't think the pictures give this majestic and weird plant justice. Almost as tall as me, plus now engorging more and more each passing day. I am beginning to notice the larger side colas bending under their own weight. The big oddity, the terpene flavour profile (ham ?!?!?!) still persists and it is as staggering as fascinating. I am sure the flavour profile will alter and develop after drying and curing. The plant has now started to drink less: the coco medium is still visibly damp after 24 hours, may reduce watering to 1L a day. I can clearly gauge that we are in final 2/3 weeks (at most). trichomes are 60/40 cloudy with a still large amount of clear. considering 2 weeks for flushing I should stop feeding on the upcoming march 15th. cannot wait to witness all those huge colas puffing like a popcorn!

alrighty then, first week of flush, runoff ppm now showing almost on par with solution, buds are swelling and hardening, however not a single sign of nute deficiency has shown yet. I plan to flush for another week or until I see some yellowing in the small leaves left.

been flushing on coco for one week already. Do I flush until it ll start showing on the leaves and plant or until I get neutral runoff? Is there any potential further swelling if I keep on watering for another 2 weeks, despite no nutes?

it doesn't affect buds in any normal context, so do it as much as you want :P no nutes means deficiencies will start and that will only have a negative impact on yield... over a short period of time probably no big deal either way, but the longer it goes the bigger the negative impact on potential yield. if you don't feed like a madman, you can fertilize up until the last irrigation if yo want to... especially in soilles grows... you aren't heavily feeding while fertilizing "on demand" with chelated nutes. think about plants outside in great, fertile soil... how would we flush those plants? also, studies show that most of the old reasons used for flushing were completely made up bullshit by people that wouldn't know how to use an erlenmeyer flask let alone determine if mineral content is higher or lower in their buds in their garage at home. LOL. Blind taste tests also show it's complete figment that was perpetuated by people that lacked the education and equipment to draw such conclusions with confidence. it's like people in america that don't like "obamacare" but do like the ACA... despite it being the same exact fucking thing. Bwahaha. careful of commonly accepted myhths.. they are rampant in the marijuana industry... rampant in holistic health and other snake oil salesman too. make claims based on incomplete info and jump to conclusions that make them feel good about themselves.. or worse some sort of profit-motivation. flushing is a tool for extreme contexts... when there is some sort of imbalance or toxicity in your substrate, you flush it. otherwise, it's only a net-negative impact... even if so small you can't tell (e.g. like flushing last week or so won't make too much of a difference... sometimes i'm lazy to mix my ferts taht last week, but i don't lie to myself that it is some sort of good thing to do.. i do it when i am a lazy pud.)

@@Waylate, I have just done a light defoliation. the resin have still the characteristics ham/meaty as before, but I can detect a faint erbaceous/skunky/conifer like undertone. Probably not my cup of tea, but will have plenty to sample considering the size and learn more about this unique smell/taste combo.
