My girls are officially 4 weeks old today :)
My dream of having two indicas has been shattered by a leggy CD-1 starting to strut her stuff. The leaf shapes are also considerably & noticeably different, so there's that. My CBD CM is still spreading sideways and is not quite as tall as her sister... yet.
On the very sage advice of @Jon_Do I did a deep dive on the weekend in to training techniques. I'm definitely planning on topping them some time this week. I'm also planning on some low stress training and using a scrog net. I'm a total greenhorn (as the title suggests!) so I need to do a bit more reading on manifolding and defoliation before making a decision on that. It certainly would be ideal to keep them as short as possible with the limited vertical space I have.
Also, as per suggestion from @Larimar I've got some equipment arriving this week that will mean next weeks diaries will have temp, humidity & PH stats. Yay!
Plants are 2 weeks old, approx 2 inches (5cm) tall in 3 gallon (11.5L) pots. I'm watering them with 1/2 cup (125ml) twice a day, and only around the base of the plants. Should I be watering 1 cup once a day? Am I under-watering? Do they need more water than what they're getting?
Wait until the soil is barely moist at all, one inch deep, before watering. During early veg, water 3" away from the actual crown of the plant in a circle to make sure the roots breathe and are seeking outwards. Mist with a foliar at pH 6.4 and maintain humidity, approx 65-75% depending on temp.
I suspect I have either leaf septoria or a calcium deficiency. I'm 2 weeks from harvest. The top leaves appear to be affected. The smell has changed (sharper). Not sure what to do from here. All advice appreciated :)
Thanks @ToadieK! I'm following your Blue Cheese Auto grow cos I've got a couple auto seeds coming and will probably try them next. Way to LST on her. Looking very obedient so far :)
Thanks @iMeus it was a huge learning curve for sure, but the hours of reading definitely paid off! Waiting until the weekend to see just how effective my medicine is π
Super keen to follow along on your CBD Blueberry grow. I've read great things about the strain. Also, kudos on that purple urkle mainline, it's damn near perfect! π
Thanks for the recommendation @Larimar - sound advice. Currently using filtered rain water for watering but I agree, the temperature and humidity would be handy info to have moving forward. I'll poke around and see what I can find for that :)
@hufflepuff, Hi What i miss in your setup is the temperature and humidity in your growroom and the ph. Its just for coming questions. the more you know about your setting the easier it is to find the problem. I would recommend you to buy the tools. happy growing
@Jaindoh Master Chief, keeping my trees safe from the Covenant! Definitely more exciting than scary at this early stage. I'm sure that will change to scary when I hit my first hurdle ;)
@hufflepuff, I felt the same way! Even if it was only like 20$ I didn't know if I wanted it. But afterwards I'm 100% happy I made the investment. Like you said, nothing like being up close looking at the trichs π
@HighTV I wasn't going to get a digital microscope, but I'm so glad I did. Nothing like getting up close and personal with your plants. The trich photos on your granddaddy are awesome π
Nice grow dude. IMO - I wouldn't worry too much about the spotting on the leaves at this stage. You're so close to harvest that I don't think there'll be much of an advance in the issue or an overall affect. It's likely just a sign that the plant is consuming all the nutrients within it's leaves (which are effectively storage centers for the nutes). This is expected later in the grow as the plants finishes its flower cycle. Either way, it it were me, I wouldn't be worrying all that much about it. Lookn great and good luck with the finish!π
@hufflepuff, nawe- youβve treated em great and u can tell. Good call on the rainwater too. We fed our outdoors with rain barrel water (unfiltered & unphβd) with nutes and they responded just fine. Of course soil is really forgiving that way which helps a lot. And I love the master chiefs presence in the tent! Should keep everything under control heading into chopππ. Iβll be watching for your next one, this is great!
Thanks @TheBudWhisperer ! You've set my mind at ease with this comment. I was worried that I'd get this close and then my whole grow would be compromised by this one issue. Interesting to know about the leaves being storage centres though! Thanks again and here's hoping they yield for me like your Thelma & Louise did for you! :)
@CRiSPrGrow I don't have anything to compare it to other than the CBD Critical Mass as this is my first go around (grow around?π). They've both certainly been different beasts. Would definitely recommend either strain from a growing perspective. Dude, was just cruising your diaries and you've got some impressive sized buds on your summer grow! ππ
@hufflepuff, by canopy I mean everything. I just worry a bit about the high humidity in your grow enviroment. As the flowering stages advances, so should your humidity levels go down. (((Read more information here:
https://www.growweedeasy.com/humidity ). Regarding defoliation, you are approaching it the right way. Don't overdo it, specially if it's your first time. Browse the web for more information, here the link I personally read and read again, with great results for me (https://www.growweedeasy.com/marijuana-defoliation-tutorial). Two things to remember: first, don't overdo it, you can always pull a leave of your plant, but you can't put it back on again. And second, let your plant rest and heal in between defoliation sessions. I totally recommend you trying manifolding (aka. main-lining). I do it in combination with defoliation. Good thinking using the fans moving the air around as to disperse humidity faster. π
@Aldanil Thanks so much for taking the time to give such a comprehensive reply. I'll go back and read my grow bible (growweedeasy.com) again. It usually takes a good 3 or 4 reads of the same material for me to absorb it properly - my teachers used to write 'easily distracted' on my report cards a lot ;)
Thanks also for making the connection for me between defoliation and humidity as well. It seems like a given but the way you just explained it made a light bulb go on for me :)
Cheers for the good advice, you're ace!
Great job! They are looking beautiful. Good thinking on managing your humidity levels. Your canopy does look a bit full for my taste. Keep and eye on your humidity and the fullness of your canopy.
Thanks @Aldanil :)
By canopy do you mean the amount of flower or leaves of both? I did do a little light defoliation but as a first timer I was a bit scared off by doing too much and stressing them out. I've just hit week 4 of flowering, do you think I should defoliate a bit more? I'm super impressed with some of the mad manifolding I've seen on other diaries here and want to try it on a future grow for sure.
I was very excited when I started growing 3 Candidas. I FIMed one, Main-Lined one to 8 colas and the other one I left her alone. They were all sativa phenotype. So they grew tall and had to support fat heavy colas on all 3 of them, so maybe pay some attention to that :)
I really like how your girls are looking π
@ChefDan420 She's definitely starting to look plump. Love it! Let me know how the strain holds up in tincture format. I'm not sure if I'm going to go tincture, oil or edibles route yet.
