Such tiny seeds, such unique genetics. I have wondered out loud 'what the hell did DJ cross this chocolate thai with, HOPS??!?'
These will be breeders for sure, and I hope to back cross them and side cross them. /tips hat to the Short family.
The Sinai and DJS Blue Velvet 2.0 are leading the charge based on root system checks today. All were transplanted from 2.5qt >> 5.0qt pots. They got a nice 2cups of water each after the transplant, since its going to be 90F today. They are spending 6am-8am in the tent, 8am-1pm (when hot) or 8am-4pm (when cool), then back into the tent until 8pm lights out. Will get some individual pics up later today
14Apr: (day 38) - Though not marketed as 'feminized' I have every expectation that the DJ Short Blue v2.0 Limited run, like most commercial seeds, will be all female. One isnt quite mature enough, and one is a stunted runt, but the other four show pistils. Signs of blue/purple on stems and the emerging leaf crowns and a bit of phenotype variation starting to show. These are 'Sativa-leaning' according to the label. Everything is in 5qt pots, but weather is mixed and so half of last week was 6-8hrs/day of 78-82F weather outside, with the rest under the Spider Farms SF4000 in my MarsHydro 5x5 tent. I pulled about 20 bugs off my plants last week...Mostly aphids, but also several thrips and whiteflies...two red spider mites. Grrrr. On 'outside' days, I spray citrus oils in my tent and zip it up dark all day. This really helps keep those bugs out. When I spot ANY spider mites, I get some clorox wipes and wipe down my containers where they like to set up shop. Plants are 9-10" inches tall now.
21Apr: Happy 420! The DJS Blue is taking on a strong smell, and the stems are looking like grape striped candy canes. They have that vigor that a great Indica will show when it first grows out, but being sativa-leaning, I can see the node to stem length is stretching longer that Indica. Sunday was 1tsp/gal grow; Wed was 1tsp/gal of CalMag. Transplants to 5gal are being made with added perlite based on feedback. Have a good week.
19May: DJBlue is doing fine, with some variation showing in the phenotypes. Most with full purple stems, some with striped. Some leaves are a bit darker than others, and since I have them in widely varying pot sizes, it seems to adjust to whatever size you want it to be, staying small in 5-7gal (16-18"). They are staying fairly narrow and tall except the two in larger 15gal pots. They love full sunshine and when bugs are found on other plants, very few seem to go after the DJB...perhaps the dark Oaxacan genetics are not tasty to bugs?
